LOL, it looks like the voat servers are being swamped by the exodus.

It looks like the exodus from 4chan to 8chan :)

May it end as well !

This Chrome extension puts all submissions from the sub on both sites into the same page so you don't miss anything. (although you can't see that feature right now due to the server overload)

It also adds a universal per-sub cross-site chat room which can't be touched by the admins. When people are chatting on the other site, you see their messages on the current site too. It bridges the communication gap. There have been a few great conversations in the KiA chat so far.

Yes, they are getting close to the digg effect. Even though it would be hard to screw up so majestically.

Idk the writing has been on the wall for a few years to be honest. This site has slowly gotten too SJW like last 2 years.

This may be the straw for most. I'm out, mostly because I hate censorship more than anything. I'd rather have an old /b/ like open forum where anything not illegal is allowed than have any dissenting opinion silenced.

Nothing good will ever come from censorship just because you disagree.

Well, /r/neofag is gone. So much for being unhappy with NeoGaf...

Edit: Come to think of it, has NeoGaf been advertising on reddit?

Edit 2: "This subreddit has been banned for violating the reddit rules to keep everyone safe"

Edit 3: Time to dig a quote out of my 2A advocacy toolbox: "Safety is a tyrant's tool; no one can be against safety."

The word "harassment" seems to now mean stuff I disagree with more and more.

I'm not particularly fond of FPH but this to me is the trigger point (See what I did there?) signifying that it is time to transition off of reddit.

I don't think most people are ready yet. Some day, in the next few years though, I think we'll see a great migration to whatever website comes next. Unless Reddit stops this crap, of course. Damn shame if that happens, after all Aaron Swartz did to make this.

I'm gonna laugh when Pao manages to sink the best opportunity of her life over unprofessional censorship. What kind of company bans something that has 150,000 customers? A company on the path to failure.

I'm gonna laugh when Pao manages to sink the best opportunity of her life

Mmm... I don't really think it's the best opportunity of her life. I'm not a Pao fan whatsoever but, from what I understand, Reddit was a bottom-of-the-barrell job opportunity for her.

Reddit is good but not that good.

Ehh, the one thing you have to keep in mind is that her time here with reddit impacts everything else she does. Right now, the official post in announcements has a score of... 0. More people down voted than up voted. If you're a business, do you want Ellen Pao's name attached to it in any way?

No bad tactics, only bad targets.

The fact that /r/greatapes is still online proves that this has nothing to do with "harassment" and everything to do with fat people being offended.

They're likely trying to monetize reddit and that's simply it. Using censorship of "hurtful things" as a guise to make this site more approachable by advertisers, meanwhile smaller subs that are filled with dead children and horrible racism are allowed to roam free because they don't reach the front page.

Remember, Pao is in heavy debt :)

SJWs almost always have ulterior motives.

EDIT As to why only some small toxic subreddits are banned and others are not all here's a list of possible reasons:

  • They're planning on it but didn't want to entirely have a "censor all of reddit" day. They know taking away things is a long process.
  • There's a reason they picked FPH. It's a very controversial sub that is hard to defend with a toxic community that constantly reaches the front page. They then tucked in a bunch of other things that they (likely Pao herself and her algorithms) don't like. Sorta like how our politicians throw sneaky shit into massive bills and next thing you know our freedoms have eroded.
  • Banning everything ugly on this site would contradict their "we're simply banning things that are bad behavior" or whatever reason they're currently clinging to.
  • They don't have to ban everything to have a cleaner more marketable site. Some bullshit can continue, and likely will, because they can continue to clean without banning "shit niggers say" or whatever horrible subreddit that never makes the front page and who's users likely already get downvoted to oblivion when they step into other subs to comment.
  • Leaving subreddits encourages a climate of fear. Will this subreddit be next? Perhaps this comment?
  • "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out - Because I was not a Socialist..." You know the rest

I find it ironic that someone gave me gold for pointing out how reddit is likely doing this to make money. Thanks...?

Which is strange because there's still crazy subreddits out there like spacedicks and cutefemalecorpses and SRS. You'd imagine these are infinitely worse than fat shaming, which is prevalent just about anywhere on the internet.

Why focus on this relatively minor offense and leave the big ones alone? Only reason I can think of is that FPH was targeted.

FPH was targeted primarily because it reaches the front page daily. That is simple.

Why other ones aren't banned yet? Because they aren't a high priority (don't reach the front page), because they haven't banned them yet, and because if they did their on the surface motives would be called into questions "This isn't just censorship of behavior!"

Which is why we need to stop buying gold and start blocking ads. Reddit's wallet is the only place we can hurt them.

To our credit, we, as in GG, actually have a network. FPH was more of a random sub where like minded people went to have a laugh. We have vocal people in many industries, including journalists, and shutting KiA down would be a shit storm, not to mention having 37k deatheaters spilling out into other subs would be a nightmare for them. Pretty sure they had no clue that our containment board would flourish as much as it did. That being said, the admins and Pao do all sorts of stupid shit that backfires on them, so pruning us would fit their M.O.

Like PCMR? they got banned as well, it didn't last, but it happened. wasn't that arround the time KIA started? they got banned for very similar things that go on in this sub, so i wouldn't feel safe at all.

It's not that I feel safe, it's just that we get mentioned in congress and MSM. The reach a sub like ours has makes it a different animal. The fact that we actively oppose corruption and have shown a propensity for exposing makes it even more different. It's just a bit...different.

I don't think they'll go after redpill or MRA right away, they'll work their way up to that. It will be TiA and KiA next, along with all the other "_____in action" subs.

I wouldn't be surprised if SJWs started claiming that the suffix " in action" is itself a form if harassment, a d that's how they'll get us

If they ban KiA I suspect the following will happen:

  • KiA content spills out into other subreddits
  • The censorship happy subs like /r/gaming will go on another censorship spree as per the original shit show that brought KiA into existence.
  • The mass influx of censorship will only push those from KiA to push back harder, resulting in sweeping shadow bans being handed out. Meanwhile, many more Redditors are made aware of the censorship nonsense as things unfold.
  • Either Reddit Admins back down and unban KiA, or a large number of Redditors get fed up and ditch Reddit.

It's definitely not within their interest to ban KiA. Keeping Gamergate related content confined to KiA keeps it from spilling out and blowing up. Still, I wouldn't put it past the Admins with how Reddit has been changing for the worse.

[–]boy_who_loved_rocketCited by Based Milo.

I doubt that KiA will be banned. It would just cause a massive shitstorm and make GG fire on all cylinders again; the admins restored pcmasterrace for a reason, and it wasn't because they're altruists.

Why did they ban PCMR again?

EDIT: Thanks for the info guys, more replies than I was expecting!

Someone posted an album of pictures of their PC rig in r/gaming. Mod of r/gaming deleted it claiming that it wasn't related to gaming. Pcmr exploded and swarmed in r/gaming posting all sorts of different pictures of PC rigs. Admins shut down pcmr. This caused an even bigger shitstorm and several side pcmr subreddits were created. OG pcmr was unbanned after a day or two.

Thats hilarious considering the shit that gets posted in/r/gaming. Its just a meme sub.

That sub has always been a complete joke, along with its admins

Holy shit you're paraphrasing that.

The /r/gaming mods went on to say that it was because PCs weren't identifiable for gaming, and really they're only good for taxes. When you see a PC you think taxes, and when you see a console you think gaming.

The gaming mods really egged pcmr on.

Mod for r/gaming deleted a topic talking about rig setups because "you could use that computer for filing taxes for all we know." some idiots doxxed him in the outrage and instead of just banning the witch hunting offenders, they tried to ban the whole sub. This resulted in r/gaming being completely taken over by pcmr members and the eventual reinstatement of our sub.

I hope I got everything right and remembered correctly.

Edit: corrected with the right sub.

I don't recall the exact order of things but... :

  • /r/gaming started policing PC content a little bit (don't remember what kind of posts exactly).
  • Mod made a sticky "addressing" the concerns, and made some really really dumb claims (things like, "Steam was the only option for PC gaming at one point")
  • Some users in various subreddits started doxxing a mod (I think the same one, but not sure), and many of the users had interacted with /r/pcmasterrace, which was all they "proof" they needed to ban the sub. Kinda like how I'm subbed to /r/planetside and /r/KotakuInAction, so clearly I was downvote brigading from KiA.

After that things get a bit clearer. Once the sub was banned, the users effective dive-bombed /r/gaming for days, completely obliterating the front page of the sub with pics of PC cases and other "barely gaming" related content.

Since /r/gaming has a positive impact on reddit scheckles, and had been effectively castrated by /r/pcmasterrace being banned, the ban was reversed. It was one of the funniest dramas to play out on reddit since /r/atheism imploded.

atheism had an free speech absolutist top moderator who didn't log in for weeks at a time. He kept the other mods on the board in check who wanted sweeping changes.

Then one time he missed the log-in frame for a day or two and the other mods claimed the sub. Minor shitstorm ensued, the admins refused to give it back. A week later the now top mods went cancer on the sub and threw up rules upon rules. They banned image macros as to improve the quality. Which killed the momentum r_atheism had. It spawned a new subreddit r_realatheism (or something) which never took off. But r_atheism lost default status some weeks later after a steep drop in activity. It now almost never makes it to r/all while before it made the frontpage daily with multiple posts.

Oh jeez, well the "event" is referred to as "May May June", and before gamergate I would have called it one of the biggest internet shitstorms of all time.

Basically, a moderator made a claim to /r/atheism due to it's creator's ( /u/skeen) inactivity. Skeen's approach was effectively NO moderation, other than maintaining reddit wide rules. The request was granted and /u/tuber was granted head mod status. Together with /u/jij they collaborated to change policies to remove direct image linking.

Sounds inane, but this was the pinnacle of rage-comic and meme popularity, so this was targeting something like 2/3rd of /r/atheism's content. People. Were. Pissed. The sub imploded, several new atheism subs popped up, and Skeen returned, requesting control of the sub back. He got shot down, and the shitstorm of May May June ended with /r/atheism losing it's default sub status (along with /r/politics).

To be totally fair, I'm NOT doing the drama justice. It engulfed reddit for months, and saw a two million sub lose it's default status.

On a side note, this is why people are pissed about SJW/Off-Topic content being direct link banned here on /r/kotakuinaction. It's stupid policy in any context, and only stirs up trouble.

Something about brigading r/gaming at one point. People were subbed to both and pointed out stupidity which was then taken as brigading.

But SRS/SRD is just fine.

Pfft, they never do anything "wrong". Fucking admins play favorites even when the brigading was bloody obvious.

It would be nice if FPH raised a big enough shitstorm on their own to head that off.

Yeah, naming and shaming redditors isnt harassment and everyone is "safe".

Laughing at fat people on the other hand, no one is safe.

I don't agree with them banning the sub but /damn/ the people there were fucking vicious.

They really were. I thought the submissions were funny but then you go in the comments and people are like "I will bathe in the blood of 1000 hamplanets. Gas the fats, weight war now!" ayy chill out

Let me put this into context.

We will ban subreddits that allow their communities to use the subreddit as a platform to harass individuals when moderators don’t take action. We’re banning behavior, not ideas.

So, I'm not sure how many people know this, but Brianna Wu's initial claim of harassment and death threats from GamerGate, the ones that got her on national television, were because she said 8chan's GamerGate board doxed her and sent her threats.

Here's what happened. Brianna Wu was stirring the nest, by making a big deal about all these memes people made. She had made one using a meme generator, trying to make fun of GamerGate. So, people shitposted memes in the same manner. Some of them being pretty offensive, but mostly just being shitposts. She flips. makes a big deal about how she's being targeted and it won't stop, and it's a matter of discussion on the GamerGate board of 8chan. Suddenly, someone posts her personal information. No one asked for it, no one planned for it, and there was no board wide rally to find and release her personal information. 8chan was simply the spot they posted it. Within in moments "someone" sent her death threats over twitter using this personal information.

So her logical conclusion was that 8chan's GamerGate board, and therefore all of GamerGate, were responsible for the harassment and death threat she received. Let's not even go into whether or not this was a false flag attempt. Let's just acknowledge her logic. At the VERY most, there were two people involved. One person posted the information, and one person sent her threats. There was no planning or collusion done on the boards to do these actions, they were simply done by one, possibly two people. However, she still thinks she was in the right by blaming an entire group of people for those actions.

She got national coverage for this. No one questioned her reasoning. She was able to paint an entire board, an entire site, and an entire group of people as a hate group for these actions.

Now, we all personally know that KotakuInAction's moderators do not accept this behavior, and if anything like that comes up, it gets banned. However, that was the case for 8chan's board too. It was clearly stated on the board rules that doxing was not allowed, and Wu's dox itself was taken down fast. However, Wu was still able to convince people that it was 8chan and GamerGate behind it all, so how hard can it be to paint KiA, or any other subreddit, the same as well?

I'm sure the admins have their sights set on KiA, but they know what a shit storm it will cause if not handled properly. While they still do amazingly stupid shit, I do think they know the traction KiA has garnered, and that it won't go quietly. The days here are numbered, and I would not be surprised if we see more shady shit go down in attempts to paint KiA as one of these harassment centers.

EDIT: So, I did some digging. I found the archived thread on /gg/ on 8chan when all of this went down. I need to provide a picture to go along with it, because the dox itself has was deleted by the time this was archived. But see for yourself. See what they were talking about. See how sudden it is. See the reaction. And she blamed GamerGate for it.

EDIT And here's her tweet just minutes after the dox where she blames all of GamerGate and 8chan for the one post no one asked for, and was deleted for being against the board rules.

So what's the over/under on her minions stirring up shit from behind "enemy lines"? Negative one?

While there's no confirmation that she, or people trying to defend her, are indeed the ones stirring up shit, there has been numerous confirmations of false flags. Especially when things shifted from 4chan to 8chan. Morons didn't know there were poster IDs on 8chan, and were posting false flags all over the place, and getting called out on it constantly.

no proof of harassment in the thread, they just say they did it and ban the subs, GG.

the other 4 subs:

r/hamplanethatred (3071 subscribers), r/transfags (149), r/neofag (1239) and r/shitniggerssay (219)

They'll start with the small subs that are clearly mean-spirited that nobody will defend, but have no doubt they'll be getting lots of 'reports of harassment' for this sub, TumblrInAction, TheRedPill, MensRights, and all the other ones that SJWs hate.

Archive with those subreddits listed as banned: https://archive.is/mJyJe

One of them was NeoFAG, which existed to make fun of the SJWs at NeoGAF.

For the moment, you can find us over at voat.

Reddit is trying to control reddit. This is when sites fail

IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN

If KiA gets banned for whatever reason, remember that we have a Voat sub. There is another subverse for GamerGate activity that you'd be welcome at, as well. There's also 8chan, of course, but you won't be as welcome there since cultural clashes and all.

Know your exits, know the contingency plans.

[–]ApplicableSongLyricWe provide... leverage. 87

well. There's also 8chan[3] , of course, but you won't be as welcome there since cultural clashes and all.

8chan would tolerate people congregating long enough to get a better solution.

Just be ready for big, tall glasses of "i told you so".

Listen man, some of us are totally ready to not just drink our 'I told you so's', but also eat our humble pie. We're not using Reddit because it's a bastion of freedom. We're using it because inertia and we're lazy. If they wanna raz me a little bit about it, I know I got it coming.

8chan is good shit. Just lurk for a while and don't try to be anything other than anonymous and you'll get on fine.

Has anyone checked if the archive of KiA is still working? I remember hearing we have such a thing but I don't remember where it is or what it's called.

I'm willing to bet if someone made a /r/shitneogafsays it would be fine.

I imagine neofag was banned due to the slur in its title..

EDIT: There is a /r/shitneogafsays. I stand corrected

Expect another wave of banning subreddits. Don't forget to let admins know which subreddits make you feel unsafe. I personaly feel very unsafe on reddit when subreddits like /r/shitredditsays or /r/subredditdrama are allowed to exist. The sole purpose of their existence is to harass people on reddit, they single out other redditors and harass them. Banning these subreddits should be priority for reddit even before /r/fatpeoplehate, because these subreddits harass REDDITORS, their customers, while /r/fatpeoplehate harass "only" people from the outside.

The sole purpose of their existence is to harass people on reddit, they single out other redditors and harass them.

I'll admit, it was a little weird seeing someone from SRS go through my post history in attempt to piece together who I was, where I was from, and why I was posting on some subbreddit (story about ZQ, I think, in /Boston?).

Holy shit. They had 150k subs or something. This is crazy.

Inb4 Ghazi says we are endorsing them. I am wondering what will happen with this sub since social justice ran a huge smear campaign. There is no harassment in this sub and I wonder if it gets the axe before all of the horrible ones like the ones about rape, assault and gassing Jews.

It is easy to defend the freedom of speech when it comes to opinions we like. There is no nobility in that.

It is the speech we hate that we must defend for once that is banned there is no freedom of speech at all.

RIP in piece Reddit. Time to go to voat.co

Voat always this slow, or is it an influx from reddit?

could just be an influx of new redditors.

Pretty sure it is the influx, today is the first time I've had issues with it being slow.

It's the influx from reddit.

It's in general not as smooth as reddit is, but otherwise it's acceptable.

Why is /r/fatpeoplehate banned, but /r/coontown get to exist?

Reddit has now demonstrated the admins care more about fellow white SJWs than black people.

These new measures won't be abused for sure ;)

Their definition of harassment:

Systematic and/or continued actions to torment or demean someone in a way that would make a reasonable person (1) conclude that reddit is not a safe platform to express their ideas or participate in the conversation, or (2) fear for their safety or the safety of those around them.

So, what about Ghazi seeing they consistently create threads that link back here to mock our members?

What about subs that pre-ban users for posting in other subs they deem inappropriate?

Both of these are systematic in nature and both make me feel as if it is not safe to participate in conversations around reddit without some sort of unwarranted disciplinary action.

/r/candidfashionpolice still going strong though. Thats thin priveledge for you.

The goal with a subreddit that the reddit Admins don't like is to get banned, then come back with a new name and wait for the press or whomever to lay off. They banned the Fappening subreddit but allow linking to websites and images. They just need to scatter to smaller subreddits and the burning eye of Sauron Reddit will pass by them without a notice.

The Admins and co really are inept at running the site. The popularity really seems maintained in spite of the company rather than because of it.

Look at the linked blog post in the announcement. It defines harassment as actions that would lead someone to believe that reddit is not a "safe platform" for people to express their thoughts and opinions. Approved thoughts and opinions only, of course. It could only be more perfect if they replaced "platform" with "space."

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.

God damnit, really? I didn't really like /r/fatpeoplehate but banning it is fucking dumb.

WOW. We are next. /r/EllenPaongyang was won. The fearless leader cleaned the house.

She hasn't won anything. Reddit was successful because people like free speech and user-driven content. When Reddit stops having those, people will find a new place to get them. I, and many others, joined Reddit when Digg tried to disable downvotes so they could replace user submissions with sponsored content; that's when Reddit took Digg's spot as the top content aggregator. Reddit isn't any more invincible than Digg was.

Jeezus the admins sure are on fire recently.

First off, I am a fat person. Not just a little overweight but full on I have my own gravitational field. I found /r/fatpeoplehate highly offensive and did my best to stay away from the subreddit because it made me feel bad about myself. Now that very being said this is an outrage! I may not have agreed with what was being said, but they had every right to say it. This offends me more than any post on that subreddit ever could. Where is the line between not being about to talk bad about fat people and not being able to be fat? This is a pandora's box. This step into censorship is the first stages in true oppression. Oppressing the people's right to state how they feel, to stop them from displaying their beliefs is a travesty. What's next, banning religion? Or maybe maybe I shouldn't be able to say I hate country music? I'm honestly scared. Where will this lead? "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" ~Evelyn Beatrice Hall. tl;dr I'm fat and hated fph, but I support their right to hate me.

Anyone find it suspicious that this post is quickly dropping in points even though it's remaining at 90% upvoted?

This use to have over 5,000 points but now 3,727.

I find so hilarious how 99.99% of the comments on these /r/announcement posts are always negative yet the admins insist in going forward with their stupid ideas. Do they really think they will be able to keep this website alive by alienating most of the userbase?

Edit: Also funny, right at this moment the post from /r/subredditdrama about the ban has 27 links to another comments or posts. They are all "non participation" links of course, but I have seen a lot of subreddits being accused of brigading in the past even thought they used NP links, but a subreddit entirely dedicated to links to another subs is suddenly not brigading.

IT BEGINS :(

SRD is rank1 on r/all with their thread.

They'll get swarmed with people thinking SRD is still about drama and not part of the fempire. Mass bans incoming. https://archive.is/L5Vxk

fatpersonhate fatepeoplehate2 and fatpeoplehate3 have all been banned. This is going to be a busy night for reddit admins.

It appears this thread (and others on /r/all) have had huge numbers of votes removed without the upvote percentage changing. This means the admins are actually removing votes, in what I would assume is an attempt to remove posts from /r/all.

It could also be huge numbers of shadowbans.

[–]Hessmix@Hessmix[M] 18

This just in FPH Mods have been shadowbanned
