4chan is the bathroom wall of the internet.

Reddit is the classroom where all the students return to after using the bathroom, where they discuss the graffiti and popularize it.

This is the only evidence of the entire debacle on the unlogged-in front page right now. We don't plan on removing it.

He says people hate him for the way he is. But to me he just seems like a legitimate man with a good brain. Understanding all this shit and the history of the actions and banning etc. I'm happy to see him make a response to this situation and to add, being amongst the most mature responses I've seen to the topic.

/r/videos is removed as a default in 3... 2... 1...

Seriously though, props for being the only default sub that doesn't shy away from stuff like this.

They've kept up questionably white supremacy videos before. This is nothing for them.

Reddit's priorities are so out of order it's hilarious.

They deleted FPH BEFORE

/r/CuteFemaleCorpses

/r/picsofdeadkids

/r/rapingwomen

/r/sexyabortions

Wat.

Also, they deleted /r/NeoFAG which is WAYY less vile than SRS, and againstmensrights is even worse than SRS.

AgainstMensRights had a mod that doxxed someone and tried to get him fired, because they misread a post that they thought admitted to him raping an ex-girlfriend.

They kept at it until the ex-girlfriend herself made an account to clear the air, at which point AMR denied any involvement. The mod in question was never demodded, and AFAIK still mods there.

This is the behaviour Reddit lets slide, because it comes from the right sort of people.

EDIT:

Reddit's software already supports hiding things from the frontpage.

Yes. They let FPH, likely to get enough outrage so more would support removing it.

Do any of those subreddits regularly hit the frontpage of /r/all the way FPH did, several times per day?

No, but FPH never had to, Reddit's software already supports hiding things from the frontpage.

Yes. They let it.

That's a feature of subs set by the mods, not admins. I mean, the admins could, I'm sure, but it's not like that wouldn't cause a shitstorm of censorship either.

damn, thats what you took away from the 7 min vid?

I applaud Boogie. It takes such a strong person to step back from a situation, weigh the pro and cons, and then come back with an opinion like, "hey, reddit did me no favors banning that subreddit, in fact, they made it a little more difficult for me to navigate the site without coming across haters". He knew where his haters dwelled before, now they fill the front page. I believe he deserves he utmost respect for speaking out and telling everyone that they're entitled to their opinion, and that he would rather see everyone have freedom of speech.

TL;DR Boogie is love, Boogie is life. Respect.

Shout out to /u/uberwolf0 for showing up in this thread!

I don't really understand the whole argument of containing the haters. Just because a FPH exists doesn't mean that everyone who posts there only posts there and nowhere else. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's part of the reason it was banned because it was spilling over elsewhere.

I understand your point of view.

I believe what Boogie is trying to say though is just that it helps having a central hub for other people to speak their opinion, whether or not it's limited to that sub.

Maybe it was right for them to ban it, maybe it was wrong. No one knows for sure. But Boogie just believes banning it may not have helped the situation, it may have sparked more subreddits to be created for that specific purpose.

I can say that before today I have never heard of FPH or seen any posts on my front page that was blatantly anti-fat people. I've been here for a couple years and am pretty much on reddit during any downtime. Today however I have seen at least three right at the top, from two different subreddits. Yes, this is anecdotal, but I can honestly say that my experience has been altered because of this decision.

I suppose that's a fair assessment if you never ever browse /r/all. But for those who do, and for those who haven't created a reddit account, you see it constantly.

Every minute someone spends browsing one board is a minute they DON'T spend browsing another board. Make a board for retards and you remove retards from the rest of the boards.

On 4chan, this is known as the 'Containment Board' principle.

Boogie is incredible in the sense that he takes a step back and looks at topics from a broader view. I have no idea how people could hate him. Honestly , fuck whoever posted shit hating on him, he has literally saved lives.

He's truly incredible. The best way to be respected regardless of who you are on the outside, is by being calm, rational, and intelligent in your discourse. Many people can hate him for his outsides, but they simply can't deny that he cuts through the bullshit with laser precision, which is extremely respectable to at least me, since I like such doses of reality regardless of who is saying them.

Today was the first day I saw him out of character and I was shocked. Very good video.

I never knew Francis was a character until I stumbled upon his stream one night. He was telling some really heartfelt story about his mother being in the hospital, if I remember correctly. I was shocked.

His mom is insane he says it in this video; but yeah just goes to show what a great guy he is that he actually put all the abuse aside because he really does care about his mother http://youtu.be/k7iTP-HaoFg

omfg. I've been on FPH a while but that realism made me cry. I feel so bad. I'm not going to become a 'fat advocate' or anything like that, but my history is so similar. What was my symptom? Heroin addiction. I feel like such a dick. Should the subreddit be banned? No. Did that video change my perception. jesus, yes. Most of us on fph work with fat people and get along, it's just an outlet, but that video. I literally cried. Sorry about the grammar, just posting it how it came so I don't fuck up what I really meant with edits.

His video Draw My Life - Boogie2988 (Aka Francis) is so god damn fucking moving. Respect levels peaked on the day I saw it for the first time.

His main character is that one though. He talks like a normal rational guy, saying "today we'll discuss that, here are the good things about it and here are the bad things".

It sounds boring but his radio voice and conciseness makes it fine. It also helps that we don't often see that in the media because it usually doesn't attract viewers. But you actually meet that kind of people all the time, although they're not as informed about their topics.

From what I saw, a lot of the fat people haters tried to justify their hate by saying they're fighting the 'fat acceptance' movement and pointing out how unhealthy it is to be obese and so on. I don't think I've ever seen boogie try to force fat acceptance on anyone. On the contrary, he's talked extensively about his problems and struggles with his weight, both physical and mental. If anything, he's been a great source of inspiration and motivation for people to face their weight problems.

So for a group of assholes to attack him so much shows that when it really comes right down to it, there is no higher purpose or justification for their hate, it's just hate for the sake of hate. Good on boogie for always managing to rise above it and put it in the proper perspective. He's a better man than any of them will ever be.

From what I saw, a lot of the fat people haters tried to justify their hate by saying they're fighting the 'fat acceptance' movement and pointing out how unhealthy it is to be obese and so on.

I saw that too which always made me laugh because I can't think of a time where hate did anything except make something worse. Also it took place on their sub for the most part so they just parroted the same thoughts back and forth amongst like minded people.

I would buy him a beer any time. I love you too internet stranger guy.

Boogie virgin here too, how has he literally saved lives?

I actually went to FPH after he released the video talking about them a bit ago, there were a couple threads up about him so I read them. Most of the comments were reaching near delusion-levels of projection and hatred towards him. Shit like how he's a "fraud" because he talks about how he's going to lose weight and never does. How he's gaming people into believing his "sob stories" life, which I guess could never happen to a real person. Oh wait he's fat, he's not a real person then :^).

Here's a cached version of one of the FPH threads about him when he released the video. I wish I could find one of the more relevant ones but I can't seem to find them in my history.
As much as I agree with boogie about how bad this decision is, I can't help but feel nothing of value was lost.

I was on /r/fatpeoplehate often and I always liked this guy. He wasn't blaming his fatness on genetics or conditions, he was aware being fat is bad for you, he was against the "Health at every size" movement and realized it was bullshit and advocated other people not to be fat because of all the problems and depression it's caused him. He's a smart guy

Its just gone private until the whole /r/fatpeoplehate thing settles down a bit. They've always tried to distiguish themselves from /r/fatpeoplehate and don't want that hatred move on to their sub.

Fucking good on them, i wouldn't want to be associated with the fatpeoplehate shit either in this situation.

I don't hate fat people as people I just hate the idea some of them spread of being really fat as a life stye choice and it being healthy for you. If you are ok with being fat it's fine, but when you try to make it seem like the downsides and healthrisks don't matter then their is a problem.

Almost no one does that except a few retards on the internet.

Seriously! I don't believe /r/fatpeoplehate should have been banned or anything but to me it's the equivalent of a /r/dugaddicthate. Yeah, they know they are destroying their lives and it's not healthy but fuck it's their choice don't know why anyone not related or friends with that person would care; and even if they were purposely ignorant to the hazards, the info is out there and they've heard it before, denigration isn't going to sway them otherwise. People just need to learn to stop caring what other people do as long as they aren't imposing on anyone's freedoms or liberties. What's with peoples propensity to try and enforce their views or morals on other people? I don't understand.
*edit: yeah that's right, if you're addicted to dug, you can go fuck yourself.

Her statement of "trying" anorexia for a day was pretty ignorant.

anorexic for a day lol you have to abstain from eating longer than that before some medical procedures.

Her statement of "trying" anorexia for a day

*for 3 hours

Her fans are idiots, but the message with Trainor's song was supposed to be more about not having to look like a cover model to be attractive. More of a push back to photoshoped and airbrushed women as a model of beauty. It wasn't meant to say "300lb is awesome".

I think the tone of the lyrics is a little less wholesome than that. She rips on skinny people.

And then the interview where she says she tried anorexia and didn't like it? That shit is so ignorant and disrespectful it drives me crazy.

I was not aware of that interview. You don't fucking "try" anorexia.

She literally "tried" it for a grand total of 3 hours. And she ate celery and ice during those 3 hours. She said this in an interview. That's not fucking anorexia at all. Here's her quote:

“I wasn’t strong enough to have an eating disorder…I tried to go anorexic for a good three hours. I ate ice and celery, but that’s not even anorexic. And I quit. I was like, ‘Ma, can you make me a sandwich? Like, immediately,”

Basically she also said having an eating disorder(s) shows strength. So apparently, according to her, it's not a serious issue, it's a good thing.

I literally can't.

Yeah, as someone who has recovered from Anorexia Nervosa, it was the recovery that took strength and I still battle with the mindset, so it takes strength not to be dragged into my thoughts. This isn't something I chose to do, it developed over time, possibly due to other mental illnesses I suffer from. No mental illness is something you just 'choose' to have or try out for funsies.

3 fucking hours? That's just an absolute mockery.

If anyone reading this is struggling with an actual eating disorder, I've build a website to help others recover called www.recover-ed.org, there's plenty of resources for you to get professional help in various countries and I am here for you if you need to talk! :)

It's similarly annoying when people with actual obsessive compulsive disorder hear people say "I'm so OCD!" when they prefer certain things to be 'neat'. Or when clinically depressed people hear about someone's flippant hair-trigger sadness. Mental disorders are not like bags to be picked up and dropped off on a whim, they are damaging pains that make typical existence needlessly difficult and don't just "go away," as even when finally conquered, they leave deep psychological scars that never completely heal.

If you are a fairly successful human, try to be conscientious and limit your vocabulary regarding mental disorders around other people. You might be downplaying their struggle and mocking them without realizing it.

Let's make women of all size categories feel good about themselves! By the way, fuck you, skinny bitches!

I've always found that perplexing too. Why place so much importance on the whole "we're all beautiful!" tripe? Some people are attractive. Some aren't. Some people will think one person is attractive, and some others won't. If everyone's beautiful, no one is. If you weren't blessed with genetics to make you attractive, why try to draw your self-worth from something that isn't there? Find something else to get your self worth from other than looks, and chances are, you'll feel as good, if not better about yourself by the time you hit your 30s and 40s than people whose identity relies on their physical attractiveness in their 20s and then realize that aging actually kind of takes a toll on you if you don't put effort into it.

I don't know. Wasn't really meant towards you specifically, but your comment just kind of reminded me of all that.

I more or less agree with that its subjective entirely. When Pink gained weight recently and people said she wasn't attractive, she slammed them for body shaming but I can't help but say if they no longer find you attractive, they simply dont. I thought she looked fine but I'm just one person. Its not body shaming to say, "Hey you changed and now your looks are no longer subjectively appealing to me." Its really no different than a haircut. No one ever slammed anyone for hating on Miley Cyrus' look after the cut but she might've even got it worse.

Its not body shaming to say, "Hey you changed and now your looks are no longer subjectively appealing to me."

It would be kind of shitty to walk up to someone unsolicited and tell them that they're no longer attractive.

The message of the song is a total gimmick. It's cheap and underhanded under the impression of being "out there", and the worst part is that it worked to the tune of millions.

Yet, as a whole fatpeoplehate hated him and even though he showed he had lost a bunch of weight, continued to irrationally hate him.

A mod was directly laying into him one day when he posted a comment.

Boogie: "This is my fault, no one elses. It's my weight to lose."

Mod: STOP MAKING EXCUSES. IT'S NO ONE'S FAULT BUT YOUR OWN!

okay then...

And to everyone who said "good on him for the effort"?

Banned for sympathy.

I was banned for saying "...well, I don't actually hate anyone."

I love that "banned for sympathy" isn't an exaggeration, that is the exact line the mods used. What a bunch of hateful gits.

That's the thing. Mods are supposed to dial it back but on that sub they were the ones fanning the flames. And I think that was one of the main factors that led to them being banned.

I'm currently subbed to boogie. 60 lbs over two years is not a lot of weight at his size. That's about two months of serious dieting for someone his size and if you watched his recent video, his weight is going back up.

I don't hate him, I much enjoy the content he posts and his personality on YouTube, but don't pretend like he's doing all he can to lose weight. I wish he would get healthy because at 500+ pounds, he doesn't have many years left.

/r/fatpeoplehate wasn't against fat activists. It was about hating fat people in general, hating people who were trying to lose weight not to be fat, and anyone who didn't hate fat people.

edit: Neat

There were posts of gym creeper shots.

There were posts of them applauding a gym for banning fat people.

A mod even replied to a post Boogie himself made on /r/fph where Boogie said "this is my fault, and I'm dealing with it" with "STOP MAKING EXCUSES, THIS IS YOUR FAULT"....um...okay?

They tried to excuse themselves saying they only hated a certain way that fat people portrayed themselves. No. They were just turds. They claimed to never brigade but it's pretty apparent that they did. A number of well-upvoted posts got downvoted to oblivion after a censored screenshot would be posted - it's not hard to figure out exactly where it came from. Someone would link it, FPH would do their thing, and mods would delete the post...after taking their sweet time...and rarely, if ever, ban the offender.

But show an ounce of sympathy? BENNED!

I don't understand how anyone can hate each and every aspect of anything, least of all something which doesn't effect then, with such furious passion.

I think many who frequented that sub must some major emotional baggage. It doesn't seem like a very healthy way to channel rage.

least of all something which doesn't effect then

Oh but they'll claim it does!

"I couldn't get a seat on the bus because a hamplanet took up two!" (no you couldn't get a seat on the bus because you and the other 15 people standing got on toward the end of the line).

"I get sick to my stomach when I see fat people!" (Have you tried not being a pussy?)

"Something something airplane seats!" (Fat people are already required by most airlines to purchase a second seat to manage the comfort of other riders).

It's kind of like Red Pillers who supposedly let women influence their lives so little that they spend all of their time on the internet complaining about them. FPH people/Channers/people who frequent racist subs are always calling other people out for being oversensitive or taking offense at nothing—supremely ironic given how the slightest thing sets them off.

I feel better about myself in contrast; no matter how bad I've got it, I don't define my existence by a petty hatred of other people.

Some people really need somebody to hate. Making up conspiracy theories about Jewish people, ragging about minorities and celebrating their deaths on social media, or maybe just going after somebody because they look a particular way which doesn't appeal to you. It's pretty shitty and a big part of maturing is growing out of that way of framing things. Unfortunately echo chambers have a way of grooming people into that viewpoint and allowing them to sustain it.

I was on /r/fatpeoplehate[1] often and I always liked this guy

but you hated other fat strangers?

I went to /r/fph quite often and I despised it and all the idiots that posted there, it was kinda a morbid curiosity thing. I go on SRS quite a bit as well, I dunno maybe I'm a freak but I don't think reading a sub means that you necessarily agree with their views.

Nah fatpeoplehate was always about just hating fat people. That sub was toxic. Fatlogic was better for anti-HAES posts.

But I could always rest assured that my reddit app would block all posts by them. I never had to see their posts on /r/all and everything was good.

What reddit has done is FILL my feed with fat people hate. I don't see the point of filtering any of these subs because

1) It's all over /r/pics. I don't want to filter THAT! It was a great sub.

2) It's going to get banned and more will take it's place

3) There's now way too many of them for any reasonable person to ban.

They just screwed everyone using reddit by ensuring that the one sub that was a box for these people got wrecked. They iterally opened a pandora's box of hateful people. So much so that /r/coontown's subscribers are growing from all these fat haters.

Reddit is going to suck for a few days.

I've got to say that few seem to properly understand this. People segregate themselves naturally and banning a sub is just going to spread it around.

"So what was the point of all this?

It's a PR move by reddit. Duh.

Well it didn't exactly work...

I would agree. But I think the intention was to avoid more situations where news stations name drop subreddits that are offensive.

Well oh boy that back fired. The amount of new offensive subreddits made today is insane.

Pretty much any recent news about reddit mentions fatpeoplehate and how it's spreading all over the rest of the site.

Way to go!

Boogie just called himself a Fatty Fat Hamplanet. I think all the ex-FPH just collectively came.

now that I can't enjoy this mildly offensive site, I must resort to 4chan

but r/misandry; r/coontown; r/cutefemalecorpses; and hundreds of others still exist.

I guess they went after subreddits which target people directly... Does anyone know how they choose which to ban and which to keep?

They banned whichever ones their advertisers had an issue with. Which is why it's such a bizarre and short list.

Who are the Advertisers?

You would have to not have adblock enabled to see.

Oh I thought everyone had that these days...

If they didn't before, you can bet they will now.

We can only hope.

[–]PM_ME_YO_NUDES___plz 21ポイント22ポイント  (4子コメント)

I use to have it disabled on Reddit, now I have it enabled, and it always gives me a "Thanks for not using add-block" photo instead of an add.

yeah man that neogaf sub was really throwing off potential advertisers... They banned for harassment dude.

You know your ban is a problem when a common target of a "hate" subreddit is saying it's iffy.

Also, he's coming off as really well educated. Especially when so many people mistakenly use the first amendment.

Also, he's totally right. It's personal and a half-measure. They should be banning so much more if they want this to be legit.

Anyone using the first amendment as a crutch in their argument against reddit's bans is an idiot. However, using the phrase "free speech" is perfectly acceptable because that is what reddit is supposed to support. They aren't using "free speech" as a reference to the Constitution but as a reference to reddit's policies. There's a difference.

Why can't we all just chill out and look at some funny pictures?

I rememeber when the internet wasn't serious business. It was new and novel, people were usually on the internet for the fun of it as well as being a new technology, now it seems it's all politicized, policed, and everyone seems to be looking to offend or is offended.

Banning fatpeoplehate is only going to make this more known to people who would have never seen it in the first place. All of reddit is now talking about this, when previously it was relatively isolated to that subreddit.

roll down the street today

Heh. Heheheh.

Like always, Boogie's talking sense.

Hey reddit. If youre going to ban shit, ban racist shit first. But actually I rather you not ban anything. Most of us on reddit support open internet and freedom. I don't sub nor visit negative subreddit, but I don't want them banned.

I'm kind of stuck to think if reddit is the right place for me anymore. maybe it needs to go the way of "dig" I will have to think about this to decide if the ban outweighs the loss of freedom. I'm not sure right now

Here's a list of crap still on reddit I found in the sidebar of r/coontown which was mentioned in this video

I'm not sure how /r/Bad_Cop_No_Donut made that list.

You might not like it, but it's not promoting harassment, it's pointing out real cases of police abusing power, they're not doxxing or harassing LEO's?

Also, Boogie was right. There are now 95+ FatPeopleHate subredits.

Stupid, stupid business decision. You would think, out of most places Reddit would understand the Streisand Effect.

The Streisand Effect does not apply within a given domain. Reddit has complete control here and they can easily clean up the FPH subs and the people posting them. Truth is that it'll die down in a few days once people start having to come in through new IPs to keep shit posting and the detritus of this little tantrum will be swept away.

Boogie telling it like it is again.

How he can stay so objective, particularly when he is involved in the topic, is amazing.

I don't know what his day job is but I would love to hear him on the radio. Great voice.

/r/fatpeoplehate gets banned but /r/CuteFemaleCorpses stays. Nice priorities reddit.

I guess dead females can't shout as loud as fat people.

Wasn't the ban allegedly over brigading and or personal information more than just being a hate subreddit though? I mean it was allowed to persist for quite a while so I can't imagine they just decided to ban it over what it had been doing for so long already.

People are all about their free speech here as well, but I honestly don't see a reason to let shit like pics of dead kids, female corpses, whatever be allowed here.

I think a better comparison would be drawn between the jailbait subreddit and these other subreddits. Just banned because it gave reddit a negative image or whatever. No other reasons (or excuses if that's what they are) to ban that one, as there was with FPH.

The difference is that cute female corpses don't work for Reddit.
