Reddit has grown exponentially, and so has the jurisdiction of its admins. FPH was toxic to Reddit's image and only got worse as it progressed. I know I'm not the only one who's revolted by FPH, not just because they ruthlessly hated certain people, but because they refused to see them as people in the first place.

On the matter of corporate Reddit just being out for the money now, servers cost money, and like I said before, Reddit has grown. I'm not saying the higher-ups of Reddit aren't making large profits off of gold, merch, and ads, but the money isn't going straight into their pockets, either.

Also, you contradicted yourself. If you think the fact that Costco pizza got onto the front page is ridiculous, then by all means downvote it, thats why you can downvote! You said yourself that "the users vote on the content".

"speaking out about issues you think are important" = "toxic" ... change the channel if you don't like it, but be fucking happy it exists, it serves as evidence that you are a member of a community where people are allowed to speak their mind. That has tremendous value.

Yes, reddit clearly needs money to keep itself afloat, but it's entering new territory here. If the cost of admission to this new territory is silencing tens of thousands of users, I'm shocked that you can't see a problem.

The shill posts are supported by shill accounts, usually bought and paid for. No question, we've even seen some users come out and say that their company requires them to make posts like this, but plenty of websites out there are selling upvotes. If the votes are being bought and paid for, then the site no longer belongs to us. I get a powerful sense of that whenever I see top posts on the front page being nothing but an ad.

TL;DR There's a difference between freedom of speech and blind hatred.

I wholeheartedly agree that freedom of speech is something to be thankful for, and I'm not going to lie and say obesity isn't an issue, but some of the comments and other content on FPH genuinely scared me. And now I know you'll come back with "if you don't like it, don't look at it", and I'll counter that while I'm here.

The Costco pizza is gonna be my example again: some people (me included) think it was advertising and dumb that it got onto the front page. I personally don't care, though, because its not hurting anyone. FPH on the other hand, was constant in my face, flinging hate on other human beings because they can. I have a problem with that, because most (not all) the posts were hating overweight people objectively. The target usually hadn't said anything rude or degrading.

I'll use the picture of the Imgur team to back this up. That was just a picture. It didn't give any reason to hate them other than the fact that a good 3/4 of them were overweight.

And before anyone replies "you're against FPH but you're fine with [hate subreddit]?", no I'm not okay with those other subreddits, FPH is just a topic on interest right now.

I love how people who rail against "corporate / statists" who ruin their "free speech" are mostly interested in the "free" part.

Now, I know that fuzzy here has left for the next 'free' site, and will never return, but for those who share his indignation, an acronym I'd like you to learn:

If you want your own little home away from home to, I dunno, circlejerk to each other's wittisms regarding overweight people, then PONY UP THE CASH.

Because if you don't have skin in the game, you've got exactly one recourse if your little fap site doesn't let you fap any more: bitch about it, and leave

Because at the end of the day, you're not worth keeping around for the people monetizing reddit, so they're going to be perfectly content to see your backside. They'll make more money by purging you, so why shouldn't they.

But I'm sure your next site will be free of the evils of market forces, and the servers and bandwidth will run on the power of your indignation
