It's tough knowing you'll never be as badass as this guy.

I expected him to hop out and punch a bear.

Do you think he can live with himself knowing that he emasculated me? I don't.

[–]The_ChesterCopperpot -2ポイント-1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Wait why is he badass? Because he's driving under water? I found this more of a funny redneck anecdote.

So, its a water cooled engine?

What is WTF-worthy about this? That car is just plain awesome

WTF is this doing here.

It really bugs me that people feel that only the extremely violent or gross can be considered WTF.

Why can't someone initially have WTF reaction before deciding that something is awesome?

I mean, when I saw a tractor emerge I definitely said "the fuck?" it was surprising.

I said what the fuck out loud.

It's made out of logs, that's pretty WTF.

Imagine just seeing this guy's head and the air intake go by as you and your family enjoy a lovely picnic along the riverbank.

Son: Dad, what's that?

Dad: That's a man, son. That's a man and his man mobile.

That is bad-ass. He got lucky as shit that it didn't get any deeper or he would not be able to throttle and steer.

Well he could probably just stand up.

If he's creative enough to come up with this I'm guessing he could come up with a snorkel and goggles

I want to hang out with this guy.

haha, at least its got nice seats

Wtf is a dundy mate?

It's Dundee.

The battery doesn't look covered or even sealed... wouldn't that kind of river have enough minerals to make it somewhat conductive?

A few milliamps. Or even a few amps. Shouldn't really bother anything. Though I wonder about the alternator continuing to spin at high speed when it's full of water, it would seem like that would cause a lot of load pushing all that water around. I bet the belt on the alternator slips like crazy (extra load AND the belt is wet), so if you kept this sort of silliness up for very long the battery probably wouldn't stay charged.

The big thing I'd think is to not go in fast if the engine is hot - dumping it in cold water is likely to fracture a casting.

I'm guessing that engine is powerful enough not to notice the extra drag from being submerged.

I'm saying that all the water getting inside the alternator (they're generally open cage) combined with the water on the belt will cause enough drag for the alternator to slip on the belt and not charge the battery effectively. The engine will run just fine assuming it's sealed properly. There may be issues with water getting into the crankcase if you run submerged for very long.

He is refering just to the alternator. The alternator spins to produce a charge and the water is going to add more resistance to it spinning. That and the belt being wet could make the belt spin on the alternator's spindle rather than turn it.

The motor wouldnt mind but the alternators internals would experience a lot of drag and possibly not spin enough to charge the battery

No saltwater no problem. Sort of

Its most likely a diesel vehicle, it only needs the battery to warm the glow plugs.

Not enough to hurt anything over short periods of time.

Now that's the Aquaman movie that I want to see.

Well color me impressed o . o

I was expecting a dangerous animal or a torn limb. Still cool though. There probably was a few crocs but the guy was too humble/cool to brag about it. What a guy.

Was not expecting that haha

This is not WTF! This is incredibly cool!

not WTF, but CoolAF will accept anyway

Do he know about boats?

Looks like some shit out of mad max

Now I want a Mad Max set in a wetlands type area so we can see more awesome shit like this.

Australia or Louisiana?

Watercooled engine. Nice.

I see how it breathes, but how does it not drown?

If it's nose is out of the water it can breath just fine

Looks like he stays continuously on the gas so that the water doesn't flood through the exhaust, which is a good tip when driving through deep puddles/flooding as well.

It's coming out by the intake too

Its a diesel.

Diesels don't use spark. They work via compression. So piston squishes the diesel and air mix, it explodes, pushing the piston.

Thanks to this, you can run a diesel with no electrical parts. Long as it has air, fuel, and somewhere to shove exhaust it will keep running.

It has two huge batteries and a starter.

So you can't start it under water - but once it's running it will stay running.

Once it's started, they are no longer needed.

So ... EL I'm a 50 year old woman :) ... is the tall tube with the ice cream pail (how red is that?) the tube through which the engine is getting 02 for combustion?

Yep. It's a diy snorkel. He is lucky the engine didn't get flooded from the back end though.

Correct. They're called snorkels.

Pretty much.

Also known as a snorkel. I'm betting though, the ice cream tub is to keep rain out when the vehicle is left parked.

How do you not drown???

For those wondering, the car is powered by his manliness and beard.
