I also like the "There are no girls with good personalities" scene. Pretty accurate, even though its just there for shock value I think.

EDIT: I also believe that he's doing what we all do. He has his own set of beliefs about life and women and the world, but its not PC and not what people applaud en masse, so he speaks the PC thing and then lives his own life. I think a lot of us here do the very same thing. I don't go out of my way to share my personal beliefs with everyone. I just smile and nod, go with the grain, but red pill knowledge is still the framework of my life. I just don't speak it in public.

RP up until the last comment. Obviously the film-maker's intent is to equate masculinity, RP and 'privileged males' to 'psychopathy' and 'serial killers.' Old, cultural-marxist shit gets old: 'men, violence, capitalism.'

Fun fact:

Feminist activist Gloria Steinem was among those opposed to the release of Ellis' book because of its portrayal of violence toward women. Steinem is also the stepmother of Christian Bale, who played Bateman in the film. This coincidence is mentioned in Ellis' mock memoir Lunar Park.

I noticed that. It's the only thing that held me back from posting the video. It's like the only way anything masculine can be stated is if something horrific is mentioned along with it.

Another perfect example is when the feminist victims fund was being mentioned on buzzfeed and huffpo, they would mention that reddit also has subreddits like creepshots and beating women, as if we are affiliated with any of that.

Cultural Marxism... So many people are plugged in. It saddens me.

there is no such thing as cultural marxism. marxism is cultural.

Get a goddamn job, Al. You've got a negative attitude! That's what's stopping you. You've gotta get your act together.

Stab the homeless. Clean up our streets. Stop it with the antisemitic remarks.

He's talking like a politician, mouthing platitudes. This isn't the tense, angry voice of someone with a political "opinion". Rather, he's a high priest of orthodoxy reciting the familiar mantras. The subtext is "I'm aligned with the power structure".

Astute observation. It is also swallowed hook-line-and-sinker by the three women at the table and nearly causes Bryce to shoot whiskey out his nose in recognition of his blatant (to him) sarcasm. The other two men at the table don't pick up on it entirely (or won't admit it like Luis) which makes it a nearly accurate demographic representation of red vs blue pillers.

I guess you don't realize that this is fiction written by a man? A No woman ever ""swallowed it hook-line-and-sinker".

It's worrying that you think you can infer something like that from fiction. But at the same time, it's ironic, given what you wrote about Bryce.

They are reacting to his charisma and social dynamics more than the rationale of his dialog. This phenomenon is typically female.

I don't know why you would put the last quote in, seeing how it's obvious from not only my earlier posts (where I confess to being a feminist), but also these posts.

Btw, you made a claim about females. Now please substantiate it.

Stop looking at Patrick Bateman as some sort of person to emulate.

It's clear that Bateman is not being genuine in the slightest, but is simply just bullshitting to appear like a "good person" who thinks about worldly issues.

The question is, whether he expects the other characters to know he's bullshitting. Perhaps he expects the women to believe it, but the Sri Lanka guy must know he's full of shit (and must realize he is essentially getting outplayed by Bateman).

His approach works for him, but I'm not sure I'd want to emulate him. In watching the whole movie it is clear that Bateman is truly empty inside. He lacks the emotional qualities that most humans possess. He is incredibly superficial and fake.

Some of his qualities, the alphaness, are worth mimicking, but I think you all need to remember that being "alpha" is just something you do to get laid. It doesn't need to be an all encompassing way of life. You will never make true friends behaving the way that Bateman does.

Speaking only for myself, I find that increasing "alpha" attitudes and behaviors is far more important than getting laid.

It is an end in itself; it also produces good side effects.

As for making true friends, I don't think it's as simple as you imply. True friends are rare. Of course, that dinner at Espace was no occasion for making true friends.

I've made good friends through mutual betaness. I've also blown potential friendships via beta.

One close friend was initially a bitter enemy. I met him while he was waging a campaign for dominance, a concept too advanced for my young mind. I simply thought he was an asshole. But mutual respect was born from our opposition. That friendship, born from a display of "alpha", turned out be very durable and rewarding.

No, he is a psychopath. That is the ultimate description of him. Superficiality and fakeness are only because he has a mask of emotion to manipulate people.

First, cheers for the reference. I think you're right on with the deadpan description. Without getting too /r/movies on you, the entire movie is that. On the one hand, you realize these people are having what could be considered "serious" conversations for dinner. The only thing that would blow this out of the water is Bateman's complete lack of caring. His sarcasm and deadpan humor in this scene is an excellent example to mock the goth couple and the other gentleman who makes the statement about the profoundness of the statement.

Bateman is simply in on a joke with his buddy, and openly mocking the goth couple. The women, who judging by the events of the film have either little or no clue what's going on, find him prophetic and compassionate. He is, for anyone who has seen the film, the exact opposite.
