It's a service where someone can gift you bitcoin. But to receive those coins you have to login to their site. If you do this from your regular machine over clearnet they have your ip and they can tie your ip to your Reddit username, and possibly additional social media accounts.

I had a few bucks in tips explode to $75 when btc was $1000, that was pretty cool. I gave $5 to friends, I'm sure now that the $5 is $1.25 they are even more impressed with the concept.
