It was pretty poor satire.

You post history shows you to be very frequently in /r/nba so /u/Ricknell1 is correct. You are here as a basketball fan and you are not enjoying the skit.

He explained why he didn't like the skit. He didn't claim Ricknell1 is wrong. A guy says basketball fans don't like the skit and a basketball fan comes along and explains why he didn't like it, and gets downvoted for it? And you get upvoted for fabricating a disagreement?

The funny thing is that if someone made that same ad hominem attack and said, "Oh, you don't like Big Bang Theory because you're just a nerd, lol!", this sub would riot.

I have never posted in /r/nba, and have probably spent more time watching Key and Peele sketches than I have watching NBA games; having said that, this sketch sucks.

You say that as if there is something wrong with that. If the target audience of the joke doesn't like the joke, why should anyone else?

[–]ThatsFair 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Basketball fans aren't the target audience, everyone else is.

I would definitely argue basketball fans are the target, a lot of their fan bases (young males) probably overlap.

It was purely accurate, and funny, and its pissing you off, that makes it Good Satire.

[–]sacklunchmilk 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

It wasn't actually accurate at all, though. It was representative of like 0.9% of the NBA.

[–]clancydog4 4ポイント5ポイント  (3子コメント)

except it really wasn't purely accurate...i literally can't think of a single NBA player that was a high school dropout, nor is the NBA like the NFL in terms of their reputation with wife beatings and whatnot. it just woulda been more effective with the NFL cause those stereotypes they were referring to are much more prevalent NFL stereotypes than NBA stereotypes.

it's all the same ... Lebron only had a high school education ... Mayweather (pro athlete) can't read .... there are many jocks who 'can't read' who get passed along in high school .... there are many rape and murder allegations in most of the major sports leagues (though admittedly mostly football).

It's the whole concept in general. You're watching millionaires play a child's game, as an excuse to binge drink for two hours. If you're a sports fan -- and believe me I used to be huge into it, now I have better shit to do with my life than stare at the boob-tube 10 hours a week every year --- it's just absurd.

i know, i'm just saying "high school dropout" is a silly thing to say about an NBA player cause you pretty much have to graduate high school. every single NBA player i can think of (other than foreign) graduated high school and either played college ball or played overseas (brandon jennings) before joining the NBA. i kinda doubt there's a single dropout in the entire NBA because, in order to get recognized, you pretty much HAVE to play high school ball and graduate. it's satirizing something that isn't at all a thing in the NBA. college dropout woulda made way, way more sense and been funnier cause it's actually a thing for NBA players

it's called hyperbole. Many players are dumber than a fucking box of rocks and get paid millions for being genetic freaks.
