Look I know that took a lot of time and effort but that room is entirely unappealing. Possibly if they did something about the ceiling and lighting it would all look much better but as it stand I would not want to play in there.

edit: For what it's worth I wish no one on this thread ill and I think if you re-read what I said it simply does not merit the vitriolic responses that have been received. This is one man's opinion and for some reason it seems to threaten so many. Reddit users as a whole, we should review how we respond and spend more time in thought before typing out a knee jerk post.

I think it's mostly due to the emptiness of the room ,the color of the walls (it makes the room look cold) , the different kind of "art"(?) on the walls (they don't fit together and on these bluish walls), and as you pointed out , the ceiling and lightning.

I've got chills just by watching this , and wouldn't be at ease playing there :(

More lighting would go a long way to warm the place up. I will say that I'm not so much a fan of the huge decals. The floor is incredible and adds a lot of flavor in a subtle way. The wall art...not so subtle.

I don't know why everyone is so mad at you? I definitely agree that the room doesn't look great, especially with the lighting and the color of the walls. I really hope that OP can fix some of these issues and get the best out of the sweet floor they made.

The votes are a reflection of the culture of the subreddit, and they also reinforce this culture as people see what gets upvoted and downvoted and try to emulate the rewarded behavior and avoid the downvoted behavior. While the points don't matter, the votes definitely do.

Anyway I'm caring way too much about this right now so I'll just move on with my day.

It's because he stated his opinion negatively instead of positively, which makes him sound like a douchebag. This is what it sounds like:

I spent time and effort on this room.

Your room sucks, loser.

I realized that's not what was said; he /she was trying to be constructive. But they ended up not being constructive because people got caught up in the negative phrasing. It's unfortunate that they phrased it in this way, because it's a valid concern; that kind of suspended ceiling plus the fluorescents like that make a room seem cold and unappealing (they're a complete turnoff to some people), and it's too bad because the floor and walls are pretty awesome.

So they're getting downvotes because in addition to sounding like a butthead, they're actively engaging in buttheadery.

The floor is really detailed and intricate while everything else is kinda simplistic, which makes your eyes focus on one or the other, so you never really capture the whole thing. It's difficult for your brain to render so it registers that it's uncomfortable. Of course once the room is filled and there's more stuff on the walls and brighter lighting, that effect will be minimized and you'll be able to appreciate the design more

I assumed it was a work in progress/update. Ill keep a note to self that if i post any projects on reddit, ill have them thoroughly vetted by a local interior designer before posting to reddit, lest i get criticised for a weeks worth of tedious work.

I think your desire for better lighting to enjoy the aesthetic surroundings sheds some light on how much BS your opinion actually is. Why add lighting if the room is "entirely unappealing"? Nobody can argue that better lighting wouldn't increase the beauty of the room. However, imho (pretty sure my opinion doesn't stand alone on this one), your negative comment is entirely unappealing. Perhaps you could use some lighting in your life.
