why would you not use contacts/glasses?

If I'm not going anywhere where I've got to observe things at a distance I don't need them. I only wear them for lectures, etc

No offense, but this is dangerous and not advisable. At least take eyeglasses with you.

Why would you deprive yourself of your sight? It can be crucial to your safety.

Not wearing glasses makes no difference to my every day life unless I have to read something at distance, I'm only slightly short sighted. It is not at all dangerous.

While I do agree with you that a slightly nearsighted person doesn't need to wear glasses at all times, I have to say you're probably a little more than just slightly impaired. I am slightly nearsighted (my prescription is like -1.15 and -2.0) and I would say my vision is a lot better than what you described...

I don't know my prescription is a -0.75 and I struggle to tell if someone is someone I know unless they are a couple of meters away.

Try being -7.50 and -8.

FWIW, situations like the one you've just posted are proof that you never know when you'll need distance vision in your everyday life.

Having everything be a blur at >10 meters is not "slightly short sighted."

Heh. Try 12 inches. Oh the fun of shortsightedness.

[–]Nihht 6

Hey, that's about me too. Like, if I wasn't wearing my glasses right now I would struggle to be reading my screen.

Myopics unite! L: -6.50 R: -7.50

Are you me?? I'm 19 years old and this is my prescription too

Depends. I am 25. Do you live in a dimension where it is 2009? If so, then, yes, I am you.

Oh wow, yours are even worse than mine! -5.00 for me in each eye!

I can get about 6, before everything's just a blur.

Eh, I'm not majorly short sighted. I can do everything except drive because the red in stop signs doesn't jump out at me like when I'm wearing glasses and I miss them. However, at more than 5 ft(roughly 2 meters), people stop having faces.

How can faces be real if our eyes aren't real?

I know you're getting a lot of shit for this, but I'd just like to add that it sounds like while you're trying to save money on disposable lenses, very comfortable rigid lenses exist (what I wear), and other than cleaning them nightly in an affordable hydrogen peroxide solution, you can literally wear them for years, or until your prescription wears out. I just can't imagine not wanting to see really well, like, all the time.

I hear ya! I have glasses but I only wear them if I'm driving, need to read things in the distance etc. Otherwise i hate wearing them!! And its not 'dangerous'. That's laughable. I can still see everything, just not tiny details from a distance; it's short sightedness, not blindness!
