研究の成果を発表する場である学術論文には研究を支えてくれた人々に感謝を述べる『謝辞 (Acknowledgement)』という欄がある。

実験に必要な試薬を作ってくれた技官さん、好意的にサンプルを提供してくれた仲間の研究者、研究費を出してくれたスポンサーetc...。

論文の根幹には関わっていないので著者に名前を入れることは出来ないが、その仕事に欠かすことの出来ない人に感謝を述べるための欄である。

卒業論文、修士論文などだと「私を支えてくれた両親」「大切な恋人」「癒やしをくれたアニメキャラクター」に向けた謝辞を書くことがある。これは後に高確率で黒歴史化するのだが、それはまた別の話だ。

さて、前代未聞の事態だが、この『謝辞 (Acknowledgement)』を使ってプロポーズをした研究者が出てきた。それについて書く。

Current Biologyという雑誌に出た論文

この論文は新種の恐竜、レガリケラトプス (Regaliceratops) の化石を発見したというものだ。

三本の角と王冠のようなフリルが特徴のレガリケラトプスは約6,800万年前の地上を歩いていたという。非常にロマンがある話だ。

プロポーズの文面

さて本題の謝辞に移ろう。Acknowledgementにはこのように書いてある。

うわ！！本当に書いてある！！！わざわざ恋人だけ段落分けしやがって特別扱いも甚だしい。よく編集者もこれを通したものだと関心せざるを得ない。

気になるプロポーズの答えはYesだったとtwitterで見かけた。これが確かなソースなのかは不明だ。確認して追記したい。
