What would you do instead and how would it make a subreddit like SRD better?

[–]0x6835[S] 7ポイント8ポイント  (0子コメント)

For starters ..

  1. I'll keep support subreddits /r/rapecounseling & /r/suicidewatch filtered out and have an automod comment to remind users not to link to them.

  2. Have a wiki page for blacklisted subreddits and the reasons they were included.

  3. Stop automatically removing mentions of other subreddits.

So hold on. You're instigating meta-drama about subreddit drama?

WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

Hi, srd mod here. unfortunately transparency about what methods you're using to combat spammers and/or trolls sort of hampers said methods. and transparency means mentioning the name of a subreddit that tried to use yours to get exposure.

as for the FatPeopleHate thing, it was very gray if the mod team had an agenda of using SRD to promote, or even if their users did. I feel like there wasn't a "right" answer there, to ban or not to ban. The immense popularity of FPH posts certainly played into our decision.

I don't like overwhelming users with rules. we've gotten to a place where we have more rules (if we include all the nuance) that can fit into the sidebar. will expanding existing rules further discourage people people from reading them? is adding new rules a bad idea because we have too many? like I said, there isn't a "right" answer.

of all the issues you raised, the one of false positives might be the most easily fixable. the mod team will discuss and see what we can figure out

Thank you for chiming in. I don't disagree with your reasons for doing that, but having a silent blanket ban on subreddit names in a meta-subreddit is a bit excessive, especially since there is a good number of transphobia, racism and gun drama submitted there. It would be nice to handle this issue the same way you handled the NP-exempt subreddits in the past.

I think it's slightly ironic that I actually called for the ban of posts summoning /u/isreactionary_bot as it was getting annoying when people would just do "/u/isreactionary_bot <replied_user>" and then have like 10 more comments about it.

It doesn't really matter now; it's shadowbanned.

/r/SubredditCancer was apparently using the comments to self-promote (espsecially via /u/TotesMessenger), and that's why they were removed from comments (this was the response I got in IRC).

About FatPeopleHate, there was a meta discussion about it, but I don't think anything became of it.

/u/CosmicKeys said he is considering add a comment to the AutoModerator rule when comments are removed.

I believe comment reminders are a good solution. Several subreddits use them when removing comments for not using NP links. Most people would not mind that.

Here's a crazy idea, let the users use those little arrow buttons to decide what they want to see and what they don't want to see.
