DQ'ed because "creepy".

DQ'ed because "creepy".

We already discussed this twice with you and yet you insist on shouting how you're a victim of terrible mod injustice.

The comic was disqualified from the contest not because it's "creepy", but because it shown love between Russia and Ukraine Belarus -- and that was banned, showing relations of any post-Soviet states. Using "creepy" in the wording of the rule was unfortunate as it could be confusing, we should have been more verbose.

[–]ShameHiderShort Cut to Ignore Opinion 105ポイント106ポイント  (15子コメント)

and that was banned, showing relations of any post-Soviet states.

...Aww man, I'm going to regret this- but the second highest placing comic in the contest involves Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in a kind of relationship- and with the bride kidnapping, creepy to boot.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with the comic, I thought it was a gorgeous, fun and clever comic that broached ground with little known countries which is always welcome. But by the ruling above, wouldn't these two post soviet states interacting be against the rules? I freely confess to being ignorant, so maybe I'm missing something.

[–]LupivTheGreatAll your Jobs are belong to us 40ポイント41ポイント  (1子コメント)

That's actually a good point. If the mods wanted to ban Belarus/Russia comics they should have just said that, and not Post Soviet states.

[–]Le_TennantDen besten Wein gibt's am Rhein 24ポイント25ポイント  (7子コメント)

Also the no photorealism rule.

[–]LupivTheGreatAll your Jobs are belong to us 24ポイント25ポイント  (0子コメント)

I wouldn't say that it's photo-realistic. It's really well drawn but it still looks cartoonish.

[–]mO4GV9eywMPMw3Xrабонэнт услуг интэрнэтовых 18ポイント19ポイント  (5子コメント)

That clearly isn't a photo. This painting could be mistaken for a photo but not that comic.

[–]Le_TennantDen besten Wein gibt's am Rhein 16ポイント17ポイント  (0子コメント)

When someone asked what an example of photorealism would be (in the USA contest challenge reveal) a mod considered this as photorealism.

Yeah, it's painted by John Baeder. His website is here with more paintings.

Wow thats insane. I couldnt find anything in the picture that would give away the fact that its a painting.

I didn't help out in the contest at all so this discussion should be handled by another mod, but all others are busy and this comic is trending so I'll have to do, guessing what they meant by disqualifying jPaolo's comic but not the one you linked.

In most recent contests we usually try to ban several known and popular jokes to force people to be creative instead of just going for the most obvious tropes. I believe mods this time didn't want people to repeat the popular trope of Russia/USSR being the boyfriend/father/lover/husband/ex-lover/etc. of Soviet states.

Relations between satellite states themselves aren't as popular of a love-related trope as the Russia-satellite love thus this comic could be considered fine.

I'm sorry my uninformed comment caused even more confusion, but as this comic is trending and I'm the only active mod at the moment I had to reply to defend against jPaolo's (and yours) accusations of mod brutality.

[–]ShameHiderShort Cut to Ignore Opinion 10ポイント11ポイント  (0子コメント)

Knew I'd regret that post.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything against the mods (I honestly consider jpaolo's passive aggressive tone rather whiny in the initial post), but I have a compulsive need to nitpick.

It sounds like a spirit of the law vs the letter of the law thing. I do understand that you wanted to avoid the typical "Russia pining after former territories/Russia is an abusive pig/Belarus wants to be inside Russia" type of thing, but I was a bit confused by the initial rule's wording. Usually the rules are rather more clear. I realize that being a mod on reddit, especially a subreddit with strict standards of quality is tough, and you're probably barraged with loads of invective every hour of every day, but please understand I wasn't trying to be a jerk earlier and I apologize if you felt that I was doing that.

[–]jPaoloGrey Poland creator[S] 39ポイント40ポイント  (26子コメント)

and that was banned

No it wasn't. You (mods) wrote "creepy" and should take responsibility for it.

[–]DickRhinoGreat Sweden 32ポイント33ポイント  (16子コメント)

The rule was against "Post-Soviet countries being creepy with each other", and you make a comic where Belarus is prostituting itself to Russia.

We wrote lengthy explanations to you over mod mail explaining why this comic was disqualified; please don't misrepresent us and flat out lie by acting like we gave you nothing but a one-word notice in order to drum up sympathy for this victim thing you're doing right now.

This was an obvious disqualification, and one that clearly went straight against one of the restrictions of this contest. If we had allowed this into the contest, the entire comment section for it would have been filled with people going "How the fuck was this not DQ'd?"

Ps. I am the moderator who wrote the original draft for the restrictions, but in that version the rule was "Russia and Belarus being creepy with each other". The other mods thought the rule should be expanded to other countries that have also been featured doing the whole "I lub u Russia" thing (like for example Kazakhstan), but it probably should have been reworded at that point to be more specific in terms of what we meant. Even so however, this comic is pretty much exactly the kind of joke the restriction was designed for. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing controversial about this DQ is the fact that you think it's controversial.

And this whole wall of text suggests you took my posts as serious.

DR stopped being funny long ago after all the power tripping started going to his head.

When you come from a country like Sweden, where being cowardly and unconfrontational is part of your heritage to the point where you are lending your sisters out to Muslims on the weekend and you stand idly by while Nazis ravage the continent just assuming that braver English speaking people will do all the heavy lifting for you, you become crazed with power in whatever form minor relevance comes your way.

I mean, he shows all the hallmarks of his country's shortcomings on a macro scale - the self righteousness, the long windedness, the absence of real humor, the PC acquiescence and unwillingness to defend his culture - such as it is.

It's no wonder he is so into gaming - all Swedes have trouble facing reality.

[–]DickRhinoGreat Sweden 2ポイント3ポイント  (4子コメント)

Unfortunately we're not a technologically backwards country that can't defend itself from even the most portly soldiers, and we don't have any significant oil reserves, which means that we will not be able to count on USA to come and "liberate" us by drone striking our civilian population.

"Hey guys, remember that one time 70 years ago where our military was actually a force of good in the world? As long as we keep on bringing that one up forever, it doesn't matter that we basically haven't had a single successful military campaign since then. Mission accomplished!"

[–]jPaoloGrey Poland creator[S] 7ポイント8ポイント  (1子コメント)

[–]BroloniousJoey Vento is my Spirit Animal 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

We are the only force for good in the world. Everybody else just sits there gaping on the sidelines. Kind of like everyone watches our superior Hollywood movies and listens to superior american music.

We won all those wars when you look at the big picture. We don't fight for oil, anyway. That is just some commie myth propagated out of jealous slave morality.

Even when there is angst over our shootie shooties, great movies and music comes out of it - thus adding to our cultural superiority and GDP as well.

Like anyone would watch a movie about Carl Gustav over Full Metal Jacket.

Don't act like the US isn't sprinting for that retard cake in anything but its foreign policy. It's a close race, though.

Since Germans prophesied a 1000 year Reich, you have another 918 years until you are allowed to comment on anyone else's foreign policy.
