I can't find anywhere where he's said explicitly that he's an atheist. In that article you linked he said he is spiritual at the least and that to ask further would be inappropriate. If he is an atheist, the fact that he can't say so openly is a restriction, yes. And he's in favour of reforming the oath himself.

“There is to be a constitutional convention in the new year – which I fully support – and it is at this forum that matters such as the (religious) oath (for becoming President) ought to be examined. It is of great importance that the Presidency and all surrounding it ought to be fit for purpose for a modern state with a population comprising a large number of different religious beliefs as well as none.”

Edit: Wall of text broken up. And just to clarify, I'm not being snippy or anything- I've had a few celebratory drinks and may be coming across as more direct that I intend. I do get where you're coming from.

I am saying that while it is not the most pressing issue around, it is still an issue. Michael D's personal feelings on the matter are irrelevant. You cannot be an atheist and honestly swear the oath for the presidency- therefore it is placing restrictions on atheists.

It is if an atheist wants to hold the presidency. At the moment there is no secular oath for inauguration. So yes, atheists still are unequal in some respects http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/government_in_ireland/the_president/inauguration_and_removal_of_the_president.html

Especially given that the fridge outruns the mushroom cloud/explosion. I calculated the amount of force required for that once, and at take-off or landing there would be enough force to crush Indy's bones to powder 17 times over.

I think the best possible way to finish this up is with an expert quote from none other than George Lucas himself:

“The odds of surviving that refrigerator — from a lot of scientists — are about 50-50.”

I think this quote, like the Star Wars prequels, was completely pulled out of his ass.

The fridge being lead lined would've done diddly squat. The heat from the blast would have melted the lead, and even if it didn't the beta particles slowing down would have emitted bremsstrahlung, showering him with a lethal dose of x-rays (look up cherenkov radiation, it is quite similar in nature, although different).

AskReddit 内の LegsForDays_ によるリンク [Serious] What's the best story a grandparent has ever told you?

[–]misterlegato 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

My Grandfather lived back during WWII or 'The Emergency' as they called it in Ireland at the time. There was rationing, and you were only allowed to use your stove at certain times, and the government even sent out officers to check peoples stoves to make sure they weren't still hot after hours.

So after years of using teabags three or four times and drying them out by the window, and rationing, he remembers the day the first shipment of oranges (a luxury item for sure) arrived. Apparently everybody flooded into Moore Street and bought oranges, and just sat about sucking on them.

You could say it was the first flash mob in Ireland.

I've honestly never heard somebody describe oranges with such a sense of poetry- I really can't do the story justice. It's one of the stories that really stands out for me- aside from finding out that my other grandfather was childhood friends with a former Taoiseach (Prime minister of Ireland for non-Irish folks).

composer 内の mxcollins によるリンク [Discussion] how much should an artist explain? [x-post from /r/musicandpoetry]

[–]misterlegato 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

As far as I'm concerned I think that for the composer there are feelings and moods that are conveyed when writing that are important- but ultimately the context should be left to the listener.

I know the pieces I feel most strongly attached to are those that I sat in a darkened room with headphones in listening to. Just from a title and the music itself it's amazing how rich a mental tapestry you can weave when listening. Listen repeatedly and every little flourish and textural difference imparts a completely unique and personal detail that, in my opinion, is what truly makes music worthwhile.

Some works take more time and effort- but the payoff is even better once you put the time in to listen. No matter how abstract the piece, at the end of it you get to hear a little piece of the composer- something that they cared enough to make, and once you understand it you don't have to like it, but you have added to your tapestry another little piece of another's experience.

But I can understand the desire to get the listener to experience it 'correctly', even if I don't agree with it.

That's the trick though- we think that he'll take it simultaneously, because he's duping us. He says he would take the other pill, but we never see him do it simultaneously- and he goads Sherlock at the end, without having a pill ready himself. Sherlock gets so caught up in the 'rules' and his own intellect that the Cabbie tricks him in the end.
