There are lots of sources that point to Hitler having this plan from the get go. The most important one is Mein Kampf, Hitler's book where he lays out his plan. There's also a quote from 1919 from Hitler saying that it is necessary to exterminate the Jews. I'll see if I can find the exact quote.

Idk how basic training worked back then either, but many people would attempt to get deferments any way that they could. One way was by starting college. If you were in college you were able to get out of the draft. Needless to say college enrollment increased quite dramatic. Having a medical condition would also make you ineligible for the draft. An uncle of mine had a heart murmur, and was thus unable to join the army at all.

Basically its due to issues with differences between the Julian and Gregorian Calendars. The first year is the Julian date and the second year is the year that it would have been if they were using the Gregorian Calendar. I found many similar issues when working on my own genealogical history. Quick source to read Here

Start with Vector Prime. It is the beginning of the New Jedi Order series. Those books have a great story and you can piece everything together that has happened since then.

There are special lightsaber crystals believe it or not, some of these have special effects or abilities. Some are also more powerful than others. For example the some of the Sith and a few of the Jedi, notably Maul and Luke, use the force to synthesize and shape their crystals to make them stronger.

Another thing that is more of a recent development is the concept of "The Ones." Here is the Wookieepedia article http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Ones. But as DORFlus said a catalyst usually ends up bringing balance to the force.

Darth Sidious breaks "The Rule of Two." He takes Darth Maul as his apprentice while his own master is still alive. Then once Vader is his apprentice he has many dark side users under him. Also Dooku wasn't Sidious's apprentice but they did know each other at the time of Episode 1.

There were other Sith here and there. Darth Caedus is the best example, but he was long after Darth Sidious. Also the Lost Tribe were definitely Sith just unknown at the time of Sidious.

There were many alcoves of darkside users. The "Lost Tribe" were definitely not dabblers of the darkside as they were directly descended from Sith Lords.

If you look to the Extended Universe you will find that Luke actually disbands the rule of celibacy. Luke himself gets married and has a child, named Ben Skywalker. Han and Leia also get married and have 3 Jedi Children.
