Throwaway because I don’t want the inevitable retaliation and the permanent crosshair on my regular account. tl;dr at bottom but I encourage anyone seriously looking for a change to read everything.

My main issue? The mods here are so apathetic to the state of the subreddit and the moderation activities of the other mods, and part of the problem is the community for being so fucking hostile every time a suggestion is made to improve it (e.g. sorting by new trial)

Am I satisfied?

No.

Everyone knows this place is a laughing stock for most Australians outside of /r/aus and /r/worldnews. Look at when it's mentioned on /r/auslaw, /r/ausfinance, any of the city subs. Everyone knows if you want decent political discussion this is not the place to have it. These are issues which barely have any attempt at being fixed because the mods simply don't care, and when they DO try the community reacts like it's the end of the fucking world.

As for moderation- Most of the moderators are fine, but a few of the main actives are not. They lack impartiality, some have a history of serious misconduct/breaking reddit rules, and all have personal issues with users posting in related subs, such as CJA and City subs. As an example, by this I mean a CJA user who has never been banned from /r/aus getting a 5-10 day ban without warning simply because a mod decided they were ‘trolling’. Moderation decisions are being made with consideration of a person's post history in OTHER subs and that's wrong.

'What would you like to see to improve the subreddit?'

  • Less letting personal issues/opinions influencing moderation decisions, such as removal of posts and bans for ‘trolling’. Let the votes filter the content, not the mods. Mods should only remove posts which are offensive, personal attacks, shill accusations, illegal, break reddit’s rules- NOT posts which they decide couldn’t be a real political opinion.
  • The way you fix the echochamber is encouraging participation from all sides of politics. Hide downvotes. It has been suggested before but the mods are too apathetic to do it because they don’t want to deal with complaints from the hostile community. I think if you can't handle complaints, don't be a mod. You should strive to improve the community and that means trialling new things, which leads me to my next point
  • I want the mod team to be more passionate about the community. Most here don’t care beyond their basic moderation tasks.
  • Likewise, I want the community to be more passionate about the community- people here lost their shit when the mods decided to change the sorting to ‘new’. This was a good thing designed to improve the community, not fascism. Grow the fuck up. The sub won’t improve unless people are willing to try change. Mods- same applies to you- try new shit more frequently.
  • Stop allowing users to get away with dismissing views as ‘shilling’ without a ban/warning. Any post making this accusation should be removed unless there is actual evidence.
  • Consider removing posts which are just blatant hate posts of a certain person or political party- criticism is fine, but unfounded hate rhetoric just encourages people to post the same shit and it snowballs into an upvote party when you post anything anti-authoritarian.

Are you satisfied with the content permitted in this reddit? Is there content we should / should not permit? (Do give examples).

  • I’m not satisfied that content is removed based on hidden moderation decisions. Easiest example is the hidden bot which was running and flagged any comment mentioning circlejerk, circlejerkaustralia, CJA. These posts were then deleted without explanation. Do you want your mod team filtering the content you get to see? When asked for clarification, the modmail went unanswered. Posts had to be made publicly in the subreddit, which were obviously removed to be dealt with ‘in private’. This again resulted in no answer. Finally, contact had to be made with /u/qgyh2 to point out this was happening before it stopped.

Other than that I'm happy with the content. Again I would prefer less political echo-chamber but I understand that's a difficult issue to address.

tl;dr the community is stupidly hostile towards anything new, the mods are stupidly apathetic and lack any passion to fix it. I don't want moderators filtering content of subs based on what they determine is trolling.
