I went to a new gyno recently because my GPs assistant said I should get checked for pcos. The gyno told me into my face she wouldn't do any tests on me unless I lost weight because doing the test was "medically not justifyable" when it was obvious my hormones would be screwed up and that weightloss is the only feasible therapy anyway since I'm so fat. She pressured me to get into a weightloss programm even after I told her about my disordered eating history.(cont)

(cont) Now I’m both pissed and worried. I’m just starting to have a good relationship with food and I don’t want to mess this up. Do you know if she is right in saying she can’t diagnose me unless I lose weight and that there isn’t any therapy other than weightloss? If you don’t know maybe a follower does.

Your gyno is full of shit and is endangering you. Lots of fat women get tested for and diagnosed with PCOS ALL THE FUCKING TIME, and indeed since weight gain is a frequent symptom of PCOS, if they couldn’t run tests on fat people, they wouldn’t be able to diagnose more than half the damn cases. Dump her IMMEDIATELY and find a new one.

There most certainly are therapies other than weight loss.

No, she’s not right.

They can diagnose PCOS with a blood test, and there is no such thing as being “too fat to have blood”.

All my love and support - I’ve got a majorly bad relationship to food and know that the triggers can be set off by the unknowing.
