From the ad for "Hands Free" by Google - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxet1VdpOQ4

But it doesn't tell me anything...

It tells you that most people don't actually need this. Since they had to dramatize the problems like in some sort of cheesy infomercial for a bad product. :)

So it's not an actual product but a parody?

[–]Nivius 6

actual product

none uses cash anymore, and if you do with all them dimes you are not well from the start. also, faulty card readers is not you as a customer's problem. pretty sure that a business would want to fix that pretty quick so that they can earn money again

No, it is an actual product, I just meant the fact that they can't show non-laughable problems that it would "solve", says maybe it isn't a real problem?

I work retail and most of the video is not dramatized, maybe a little bit over done.

What the fuck? They're advertising the hands free part of this service? Seems like an odd thing to say is the main attraction. I've never felt like I couldn't use my hands to pay for something...

At first I thought this was just Google Wallet, but now you don't even have to tap your phone on something? That's actually kinda neat but I'd still prefer to use a physical card.

Yah, don't get me wrong, I'm sure the technology behind it is great and all. It just seems like a whole lot of effort to solve something that most people don't seem to have an issue with (swiping/tapping to pay).

Personally the issue I have with any new payment methods are the chances that someplace I go will even support it. I know 99% of places will just support good old card swiping. If I try to use my phone to pay, or now this "Hands Free" method, by the time a few stores have trouble processing said payments, I've pretty much negated any time saved by it.

This is why I still just stick to swiping a card... even though plenty of new tech seems neat.

I actually used to use tap to pay quite a lot with my Visa, except I think I wore something out because it doesn't seem to work anymore. At least chip and PIN is still loads faster than having to sign stuff.

I wonder how the development meetings went when they were discussing the potential for this product.

You know they had to come up with a list of problems this solved, and how it made peoples lives easier/the benefits it had. Either they blatantly exaggerated/lied to maintain their cushy job, or they were so isolated and coddled growing up they don't have any real world experience to understand how actual people will relate to this product.

I don't see how it's supposed to work though. I checked out the website and it doesn't really give any specifics... so do I just say I want to pay with Google and it automatically knows all of my payment info? Does it grab the info from a card on my phone? What if someone else has the same thing behind me, how does it know which card to use? Do I give them my Google account? If I do, then can't I just say anyone's Google account and make them pay for it?

I don't see how it's supposed to work at all.

Another user mentioned a similar product -

https://www.reddit.com/r/wheredidthesodago/comments/37yzf3/paying_for_things_is_nearly_impossible/crr1qk6

Basically it might be something like when you walk into a shop, your picture/info is pushed to the checkout system. Then when you use the keyphrase "I'd like to checkout with Google", it could bring up your individual picture on the checkout for cashier to verify.

Oh, I think I get it. It's a repudiation system! The merchant's identity is tied to the transaction. It prevents a drive-by charge against you by trying the thief's Google account to the transaction. Contrast with credit card skimming, where the thief can isolate themselves by selling the credit card number.

I'm going to guess it uses some form of geofencing. Geofencing is an application only works in specific locations such as in a store or within range of a payment terminal.

Square had Pay with Square a few years back, where you could set up a tab at places that used Square payment systems, and when you entered the shop it'd have your name and a picture listed in the payment terminal so they could verify it's you.

"I like to be with Google."

"...okay, Melanie."

I'd also like to charge everything to Google. Thanks, Google!

This is why our economy is down. I have loads of money in my account but I just can't use it.

[–]mediocre_sideburns 12ポイント13ポイント  (0子コメント)

I'm pretty good at money. You should let me have some of yours and I'll show you how to use it.

Do they require everybody they hire to have seizures on camera or something?

Like why is everyone so aggressive and dropping shit.

Damn, I'm high as fuck.

They really got to drill it into that paying for stuff is the fucking worst and you have a problem but never fear, Google is here!

"welcome to today's shoot! before we start filming, help yourself to twenty-seven cups of expresso. we insist."

The gif is sped up a little

The real challenge is seeing the card has sufficient funds for those on a tight budget.

I always check my bank app before I buy pretty much anything over 20 dollars.

halp how do i commerce?

Honestly, this is about what reality looks like in the average checkout line.

I've been a cashier, yes, but I've been a customer too. Even with automated checkouts people just can't seem to pull their shit together for thirty seconds to assemble enough common sense and manual dexterity to slide a fucking piece of plastic through a slot. How is it hard? Why are you still paying with pennies? debit cards don't charge interest ... I believe that like 0.05% of the population has an excuse to not use debit cards ... but no, not every single person that has ever stood in front of me anywhere in the history of the universe. Stop paying with pennies you god damned brainless assholes.

I hate it when people give me cash back with the coins on top of the bills. Stop this madness! Coins first so I can put it in my pocket, then the bills, please.

Did anyone else start laughing while watching and then just get incredibly frustrated the more they watched?

Looks like a typical day in the life of a cashier.

looks like howtobasic

I'm listening to music, and it synced pretty well.
