This subreddit is 4chan. They will automatically hate you for showing weakness because it's the antithesis of what they believe to be "internet manly" when they failed to be manly in real life. Don't worry about it.

They will automatically hate you for showing weakness

If that was true, then why don't they hate the emotional weakness that causes people to rationalize neutral endings?

Well that's interesting, because I sincerely doubt you actually give a shit about anyone else's problems in real life. But, you know, upboat away. That's exactly the same as being a good person.

I give a shit enough about them not to go around making fun of them, which is kind of the exact opposite of 4chan's MO.

It might not be being a good person, but you can't justifiably say it's being a bad person.

Of course I can. Pretending to care about other people's problems on the internet while simultaneously laughing internally is just as shitty as telling those people to fuck off because you don't really care about their problems.

If you met the guy who wrote that long, drawn-out shitpost, would you say "sorry?" Would you take him out to dinner, or pat him on the back, or even feel compelled to connect with him in any meaningful way? Of course you wouldn't. But pretending to cry about their problems on the internet is just as bad as making up some stupid sob story so that everyone will pretend to feel bad for you.

That's actually why this 4chan strawman is better in this scenario: because on a truly anonymous messageboard, there is no obligation to pretend to feel bad for people. You just tell them to fuck off.

...and neither one is bad. At all. They're only bad if you have some kind of stick up your ass about people getting undue attention.

Also, comparing this shitpost to telling the guy to fuck off is a bit of a stretch. At least telling someone to fuck off is relatively sincere. This shitpost is the equivalent of waiting until you see someone walking down the street before mimicking them in earshot.

And what exactly would constitute giving a shit about this guy's problems? It sounds like he doesn't have any problems. P3 helped him through it and that's great for him. It's resolved. And whether or not that's a made-up sob story for internet points doesn't fucking matter. And anyone who's reasonable isn't so concerned about getting taken for a ride over such an inconsequential matter that they'll belittle someone for it.

If you met the guy who wrote that long, drawn-out shitpost,

Oh, and here's another thing. You assume the original post was a shitpost. You consider anything sappy or emotional to be a shitpost. I don't know where that comes from. Again, I'm not so up-in-arms about my own cleverness that I'm concerned about being lied to for internet points. Maybe this is some kind of elaborate troll-vs.-troll self-defense mechanism.

This subreddit is 4chan

would have been the best stopping point, honestly.

I prefer to continually express why I dislike 4chan so my dislike doesn't become tautological.

This subreddit is 4chan.

Fucking seriously. It's almost like "I'm too afraid to actually go to the evil 4chins, so I come her instead and pretend I'm shitposting on /v/."

[–]chroipahtz 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Well, I don't think that's it at all. A large portion of 4chan's userbase is dissatisfied with the direction of 4chan and/or has some overlap with reddit's userbase. I imagine a good portion of them simply like reddit more. However, 4chan habits die hard (you don't have to look farther than this thread to see examples of greentext). The real shitty people from 4chan migrated to 8ch so they can openly talk about pedophilia and harassing people.
