You know, it's perfectly OK for an adult to be interested in things.

no it's not. Depends on what those things are. Kiddie porn is creepy/disturbing, and having a favorite letter is childish and immature.

In fact, the only people who think having interests is lame are those anguished teenagers who haven't yet matured into grown-ups.

Well you can enjoy anything you want no matter how incredibly asinine and childish it is. Nobody's stopping you.

Either you fall into that camp or you are emotionally underdeveloped.

I have interests too but they are age appropriate and something I take pride in. If you take pride in liking an arbitrary thing or another then thats fine but you must concede that there are childish things and liking dinosaurs and pretty colors shows what kind of mentality you have. Liking mature things is immature? You're making absurd non-points.

They're fucking fascinating, and some people get to do it for a job.

And I look down on those people. "Ooo~ pretty animal go roar!" Wooooow fascinating.

A favourite color? Of course we do-it's about preference and doesn't really mean anything, but that doesn't make it childish.

All you're saying is "anything anyone likes isn't childish!" which is of course so uber false. You can like little toy cars or playing with superhero action figures but that's childish because it's meant for little children who are in fantasy la-la land.

your attempts to be 2edgy4me are a little pathetic,

1) I'm not trying to be edgy at all and you're simply using that term to dismiss my arguments and feel as though you've somehow defeated Goliath with your reddit lingo.

2) Using the word "edgy" is childish.

3) if you want to create a strawman out of the person you're trying to have a discussion with just to make me look foolish is in and of itself, childish and quite frankly intellectually stupid.

I don't get why you have to be 12 to like dinosaurs. I think you are being called a prick because you came into this thread just to be dismissive, it seems. Furthermore, can interest in this (which for you, is for 12 year olds) be a problem?

I won't deny that dinosaurs have a special resonance with children. They are giant creatures that look unique and amazing. However, like most things in life, that child-like wonder can lead to a matured interest. Those children who love dinosaurs may grow up to investigate what maternity was like for certain species, the ecology of the period etc. Yet at the end of the day, there is still a core in that person that is the child saying that their favorite dinosaur is a pachycephalosaurus. It is much like how most programmers have a favorite video game (usually from their childhood), and I wonder how you would approach that question. In fact, most people who succeed began with a child-like wonder so I think this is a good question to ask and not an indicator of someone who is 12.

Finally, I think this is one of the better threads because you may actually learn something from it.

people can call me what they want if it'll make them feel better or reaffirm their stance on liking dinosaurs (laughs out loud). Also I WAS being dismissive but I also wanted to do it in a humorous way and off-handed but I suppose that fell through the cracks.

Depends on a multitude of factors. If a person thinks dinosaurs are off-handedly interesting then I have no problem with it whatsoever because I can understand that side of the equation. If a person has a FAVORITE dinosaur then I will raise a brow as it is childish the same way having a favorite letter or number is childish. If a person has even further interests in things such as dinosaurs then I will asest the situation and the personality of that person as an individual.

Exactly. I'm not saying people can't like childish things; I'm saying that certain things they like are childish. You can like Hot Wheels and grow up to be a NASCAR driver AND still play with hot wheels, BUT to say that having a favorite hot wheels toy car isn't childish is very worrying to me as they are treating the word "childish" in an automatically negative light (which ,imo, they should be because playing with toy cars at 35 is childish) but that is on them, not on me.

Finally, I think this is one of the better threads because you may actually learn something from it.
