Why. Why is he "ghetto as hell." Because the tweeter is Black? Because he's using (some) AAVE? Ghetto is a racially coded word. It usually means Black and Bad simultaneously. Please don't use it this way, because it's racist.

What makes it ghetto is the fact that it's written purposely in a "ghetto" vernacular from Snapes perspective. Wether the author is black or not does not matter since he is not the focus of the post, Snape is.

Serious question: Can you separate "AAVE" from the ghetto? Both words are racially coded, as you say, and AAVE certainly grew to its current form in inner city ghettos. Other than ghetto having a somewhat more pejorative connotation, doesn't both "ghetto" and "AAVE" conjure images of poor blacks living in urban poverty?

Many Black professors, artists, authors and luminaries use and talk about AAVE. It's also common in rural areas and associated with rural Southern dialects. It isn't only associated with poor people in the inner city.

They actually seem fine with the terminology used in the post. It's weird.

A wild SJW appears! Uses hurt feelings!

The person is pretending to tweet from the perspective of a fictional character from Harry Potter. I've never met the guy, but he's clearly using "AAVE" in an over the top way to make a joke because Snape is a (fictional) white guy. OP found his joke to be funny, and posted it with a silly title.

I am trying to make the world a less racist place

Do you really think this reddit post is an effective place to do so? Sounds like you have a professional background in this, maybe you should spend your time focusing on something that will actually further your goal.

I'm sure you won't concede this point online, but somewhere deep down you must know that the time you spent saying OP's use of the term ghetto is racist was a waste. You know why? Because an avid fan of HP is more likely than not a person who treats every person equally, and all that really matters in life is how you act towards the people around you. Take your talk of 'racially coded word meaning black and bad' elsewhere.

Did you see how people reacted when a minor character in the books was cast as a black guy? Not all HP fans are enlightened about race.

[–]sourgreen13 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I didn't see it, but yeah good point. A lot of the stuff I just wrote was a little bit stupid because I got overly emotional about this silly conversation. You saw my overall point though, right, even with that blanket statement

Why are you making it a race thing? Nobody said anything about race until you showed up. "Ghetto" is a valid way to describe the slang used in this post.

I agree with you, the title is cringeworthy.

Take a look at you and me. Are we too blind to see? Do we simply turn our heads and look the other way?
