Greeaat, making fun of pedophilic rape. Good job, guys.

[–]Science_Killed_God[S] 4ポイント5ポイント  (3子コメント)

would you rather we praise it?

[–]Agnostic TheistBabaYetuYetuUliye -3ポイント-2ポイント  (2子コメント)

No, I'd rather we'd not bring it up in such a crude manner.

You obviously don't understand that fallacy. I'm not attempting to disprove anything based on tone, therefore it doesn't apply. I just find it rather annoying that people enjoy joking about pedophilic rape.

Someone doesn't understand how humor works.

Look at his username. He is obviously a religious troll.

If there's one thing I've learned on Reddit, it's never underestimate a commenter's stupidity.

TrollStalker, you're defending a sign which was vandalized to show a priest attempting to rape a child. And you're calling stupid for being annoyed that people post stuff like this.

BabaYetu, let's engage in a small learning experiment, shall we? Find a list of the world's most popular comics and humorists. Then, one by one, remove the comics who have ever told a joke that some consider to be highly offensive. Notice how when you reach the bottom of the list, no names are left on it. What have we learned here? What does this tell you about the way humor works?

Argumentum ad populum.

The fact that the majority of comedians and comics have made some sort of offensive joke, doesn't make it fine for them to do that.

Anyway, I probably should've said this, but I'm not opposed to offensive jokes. I just don't like when it's done in such a crude way made specifically to be offensive.

Hope this doesn't offend your delicate sensibilities, but....

Thank (non-existent) God that we don't live in a world where comedy is sanitized to suit the humorless and hyper-sensitive.

Obviously I didn't really get my point across - admittedly that was a barely intelligible paragraph considering the way I phrased it. Anyway, I'm just going to leave now as you don't really seem to be interested in discussing this.

No, you got your points across just fine. But your points were not good ones. Here, let's go through this carefully.

Argumentum ad populum.

It was not an argumentum ad populum. Because I was making two points, neither of which had anything to do with the morality or immorality of offensive humor.

My first point was that if we remove all the comedy that offends someone, there wouldn't be anything left. So our choices are to a) censor everything that might offend anyone, or we need to put on our big girl panties and refrain from throwing a hissy fit when something offends us personally.

My second point was that the ubiquity of offensive humor tells us something about the nature of humor itself. i.e. That it functions as a pressure valve that releases tension around taboo topics. Offensive humor serves important social and psychological functions.

The fact that the majority of comedians and comics have made some sort of offensive joke, doesn't make it fine for them to do that.

Again, this was not my argument.

I'm not opposed to offensive jokes

No, you're just against those jokes that offend you personally, or that you personally dislike. As if your subjective whims are the ultimate standards by which society should police itself.

I just don't like when it's done in such a crude way made specifically to be offensive.

Right. So this is about your own likes and dislikes. Got it. The world should bend itself to your personal preferences. That's not narcissistic at all. By the way, how do you know the sign was made "specifically to be offensive?" Maybe it was made because, you know, the creator thought it was funny. Are you a mind reader?

I actually just like the song - soundtrack of Civilization IV. Very uplifting, regardless of the meaning of the lyrics. What gives you the impression that I'm a troll?

[–]Science_Killed_God[S] [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Your defense is that someone put it to a catchy tune? Oh, I suppose that's all that matters then. I'm sure you'll love my muwashshah Mein Kampf, or how about some fatwās set to fusion jazz. Regardless of the meaning of the lyrics, they're uplifting songs.
