And look at all that nail polish! LOOK AT IT! (Follow-up from a previous post)

You need to look up the definition of "Extremist".

Neither idea is "extreme". A flat tax is just generally naive and banks on the idea that it's easier to explain to the average person. A 90% tax bracket only takes effect on income over a certain amount. It's not like it touches capital gains either. The extremist idea you're looking for is the "abolish the IRS" crowd.

That said I am still very suspicious of people who propose flat taxes. They often have ulterior motives hiding behind their "simplify" the system mentality. Indeed if the goal is to simplify then we should be using a continuous tax function and allowing the IRS to do our taxes for us. Explaining that to people though is apparently too complex.

A 90% tax bracket is probably extreme because it would be well past the Laffer curve "peak": the point of a 90% would not be to bring in more tax revenue, it would likely bring in less than our current rates, but it would lead to almost all the rich moving out of the country.

So try and explain why.

Flat tax doesn't take into account static priced goods that everyone needs. Take 30% of a $100k/year salary and that person won't be hurting to survive. However, take 30% of someone at the poverty line and they might not be able to pay car insurance. Some of the lower end need less of a burden.

I know this isn't a very fruitful or constructive thing to say; but it must come out. I've meant to say it for a very long time:

Fuck Bernie Sanders.

That dude just looks unstable.

That is probably why it was selected for this post...

Just curious when did he say 90% tax rate for the rich? And how much many would you have to make for him to tax you that much?

Irrelevant.

Well taxing someone 90% who makes 30,000 a year vs 3,000,000 is quite different though it is obviously way too high. Seems to me he was trying to use shock value to make a point.

So even dumber.
