He wasn't conscripted. So yes, he technically did have a choice.

I said they didn't have a choice to join? Or did I say they don't have a choice of where they go?

The majority choose to join because they'd like to go to college and do more in their lives than flip burgers, because in America you're likely to not go farther than that without a college diploma. College isn't free, most families don't have the cash on hand to pay for college, scholarships are limited.

Isn't it funny how that works? It's like they are set up to fail.

They only call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

But no, those boys are fightin' for our freedoms, man, and you're a fuckin' dirty athiest communist pig if you don't support the troops.. Ya hear?

Well, they offer what they offer for a reason. They know well off people will never accept, only poor people will volunteer.

The "American dream" is real, but not achievable by all. Just keep parroting.

But no, those boys are fightin' for our freedoms, man, and you're a fuckin' dirty athiest communist pig if you don't support the troops.. Ya hear?

"He's not agreeing with us 100%, he must be 100% against us!" "How dare he not see the world in black and white!?"

You know, it's possible to support your countries troops and simultaneously be against whatever wars your country is involved in, right? Just because I'm not calling soldiers blood thirsty killers doesn't mean I love war and want us to run around killing people without just cause. Stop with this whole "you're with me or against me" mentality, it will get you nowhere.

You can't really apply that apologism to much. It is rare when there isn't clear cut difference between right and wrong. Give me one instance where positive effect of serving since WWII isn't outweighed a thousand times over by the negative effects.

The U.S. military aren't literally Nazis, but the excuses made in the Nuremberg Trials are no more valid today then they were then. The degree of wrong and right may vary, but they clearly fall one way or the other. There is no ambiguity when it comes to taking life. It is either murder or not.

It's really sad, you're like a parrot. When's the last time you had an original thought?

Politicians don't pull the trigger. Take some fucking responsibility. If you volunteered for the US military in the last 60 years and know even the slightest bit about US history you knew you were going to participate in a war of aggression.

When's the last time you had an original thought? One all your own? It's like someone sat you down and told you America is evil and then showed you only the bad things until they broke you. It's sad. Your world is in black and white, good or evil - but that's not reality.

I bet you'd hang a man for simply stealing a slice of bread for a family of 10. If he was American.

I'm not trying to pretend America is perfect, we've done some fucked up shit in the past. A lot of bad things to our own people. But just take a few seconds to think about things without being anti-America to be cool and edgy.

Think of the people who would not exist if they weren't saved by Americans. Think of the - why the hell am I even wasting my time? No matter what I say, you're just going to continue with your hatred based in ignorance. You will never be able to accept another way of thinking, let alone consider you may not be right about something, anything. I feel bad for you.

You go ahead and feel bad for me sport. I'll go ahead and continue not sucking the cock of any moron with a crew cut who couldn't get into college

Also

have you ever had an original thought??

support the troops!!!!

Lol

I pity you more now than before.

Nothing to add to the discussion? Unsurprising

Whatever I write is responded to with childishness. I really don't care what you think about any of this, you're incapable of a real discussion.

/u/jeffbingham, thank you. I whole-heartedly agree with you, I can't handle the pure ignorance in this thread.

My best friend is a marine, one of the smartest guys I know, one of the nicest guys I know. But he's not some redneck child-killing idiot with a god complex like half these assholes are saying everyone in the military is.

I respect people in the military. Fuck me, right?

Bring on the downvote brigade!

Your friend volunteered to join an organization whose primary purpose for the last 6 decades has been to start wars and invade other people's countries.

Your friend is as culpable as any politician.

Nah dude he's one of the smartest guys /u/jonyrodgers knows.

The MIC is out in full FORCE this memorial day, eh?

Well that's hardly surprising. We all know how much they like avoiding actually paying attention to vets

You're a special kind of retard...

This who comment section is sad. They're basically brainwashed and parroting.
