Visited the Rockaways. Surreal experience knowing you were still in NYC.

Anyone here from the peninsula? How is it living there?

In the summer there are no reasons to leave. Unfortunately that isn't always true. Its not always summer and people have to leave for work. Getting to work/school could be measured in hours and there were no entertainment amenities, no movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc.

I'd imagine it was a lot like most places without easy public transportation (Marine Park, Eastern Queens) and less like the sleepy beach towns in other cities.

Not to sound too negative, there is a beach, its always feels 10 degrees cooler, and everyone knows everyone else which I think is fairly unique for NYC.

If you want a surreal experience, go west into Breezy Point. That place is very unique. It has the demographics of some small town in the Midwest, the population density of Lower Manhattan and the infrastructure of 19th century London.

Breezy Point is quite unique. Here is a interesting fact: Its population (primarily Irish American) has the highest consumption of Budweiser beer per capita in the world. Also but unrelated, if you happen to be African American be prepared to stand out and feel a little unwelcomed. Plus parking there is horrible and largely unavailable to non-residents. However it is a beautiful place - they used to call it the "Irish Rivera". The beach is clean and uncrowded plus there is great fishing on the tip of the point.

Those racist asshole at Breezy Point have called the cops on me when I was changing a tire. Trust me nothing warmed my heart as much as watching the neighborhood burn after Sandy.

Fuck Breezy Point and anyone that comes from there.

Edit: Just so your craybabies in here are clear. The cops thing wasn't just me and I'm speaking from experience of having family that lives in Far Rockaway. See this is typical of so many of your bitch made losers in here. When shit is about Black people you losers want to suddenly talk culture and communities but as soon as its reversed you want it to be individuals. Well fuck that and fuck Breezy Point and hopefully another fire will get the rest of the community.....you know...cause of their culture.

that's really fucked up actually

One time some black folks in a car yelled "Fuck you, white boy!" at me.

I'd love to see all communities of color burn to the ground. /s

You probably deserved it so it's OK.

I will add that its RIDICULOUS that those wealthy people got millions of federal Sandy dollars. They built on a spit of sand so they knew the risks, these are second homes for the most part, and it is in practice a private club closed to the public. Not a dime of public money should have been spent there.

Wishing fire and destruction is way over the top though your rage is justified.

[–]camsterc 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

for getting the cops called on you for being black? that's just god's vengeance.

You sound like a very pious man. Is your god Adolph Hitler?

And that's why you're a piece of shit.

[–]travelexplorephoto 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

Racist assholes are downvoting you cause they aren't comfortable with the idea that this shit happens all the time.

[–]Pool_Shark 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Perhaps he is being downvoted because he mentions being happy half of a town burned down and is wishing the other half burns down. That too me seems just as fucked up as racism.

I spent most of my summers growing up down there and I'm not gonna lie, I can't blame you. The people are largely a bunch of insufferable, rich, racist, elitists. The location is unbeatable with the bay and ocean in walking distance from just about anywhere but fuck me I'd never live down there again even if I could afford it.

There's a small minority of people down there who are only able to afford it because a family member "bought in" back in like 1900 when the community was being founded and (if I do say so myself) most of them are decent. But the rest are so overwhelmingly snooty.
