It was kind of obvious though wasn't it?

Have we gotten to a point that so few people are familiar with the past 2k years of religious history that this is somehow a 'revelation'? (no pun intended)

Apparently >.>

Heck, if you read a lot of early season "Christian" reviews, they keep claiming GOT is the world "before people learned about Christ"

I had to face palm every damn time.

I'd love to read one of those, where can I find one? I only have to assume that they liken the Seven to Greek/Roman polytheism... which isn't really an apt comparison.

Google "Game of Thrones Christianity", "Game of Thrones Christian review" or a similar term. I am on mobile right now.

To be fair, the earlier seasons there weren't that much significant hint of "Christianity" while the books made it a lot of obvious.

I want to see one of those, that'd make my day.

if you're naked in on camera it's like dropping your pants at the top of an escalator

Lol these people are like real life sparrows.

Not really... At all...

Being naked on camera is more like the equivalent of dropping your pants in front of millions of people. Beleiving that is nothing like the Sparrows, no one was kidnapped or killed over that.

Have you read the rest of it?

Not sure what exactly is wrong with it, resisting the desire to lust is good in my "old fashioned" and "intolerant" opinion.

Hahaha why? It's just a random one of the many desires humans have. There's nothing inherently evil or wrong with lust that warrants resisting.

Reducing respect for actual women, desensitization, viewing Women as objects, nofap reasons, etc...

Then what the hell are you doing watching Game of Thrones?

There's a lot more to the story than just random boobs.

Tl;Dr: It was the medieval Catholic Church which inspired the faith.

And Protestant Reformation.

Nobody expected the Sparrow Inquisition.

Ehm... the medieval Catholic church was just considered the Christian church at the time as it predated any of the reformations, which then lead to the Catholic reformation.

nobody expects the spanish inquisition

did he really have to reveal that? a bit obvious

Well a lot of people claim "It was militant Islam!" on the forum boards.

The shows Sparrows are a little different than the books, more puritanical and destructive. I think the idea of a fanatical group that helps the poor and needy but also violently attacks things they see as sinful reminds me of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Oh this is a "reveal" is it?

[–]MauricioZCIron Bank of Braavos 2

No shit!

[–]CharsarHouse Stark 0

He mentioned the Protestant reformation a couple times in the interview. What do you think the chances are that the faith goes through something similar? It would be a bad time for that to happen with a war going on.

It is pretty obvious with the Hig Septon mirroring the pope and westeros as a whole mirroring europe.

What I found interesting about GRRM is that he choose to display the duality between god and the devil, heaven and hell etc. in the faith of the red god and not in the faith of the seven, while the idea of seven entities being one parallels the holy trinity. So while the religions he created are influenced by our history they are also very original.
