Dude, it's a random piece of fan art. Where did you see anything in it about promoting anything, not to mention promoting fetishes?

An overwhelming amount of brony drama is based people projecting oddly specific and freaky assumptions onto some incredibly generic, run-of-the-mill geek fandom behavior.

Guy uses a pony avatar on a forum? Must be a representation of his imaginary pony-self!

Artist shares his fan-music piece on youtube? Must be a tool by sexual predators to entrap children!

People go to a convention? That must be where they are getting brainwashed into reinforcing the belief of their own normality!

Picture of soldier protectively holding a cute baby character? Clearly it must be a sex thing!

Posters defend the fan community that they re into? Same thing as scientologist propaganda!

Seriously, it sometimes sounds a lot like those old-timey parental group moral panics about D&D or Pokemon or Harry Potter or something, where every mundane example of people having fun in a way that's mildly new to you, must be somehow related to either satanic ritual abuse, or to teenagers delusionally detaching themselves from reality.

I just googled "fan art of vietnam" (now that's in my internet history :/) and found equal parts of Hetalia (which doesn't really surprise me since the canon has Hitler jokes) and MLP art, as well as a Danny Phantom-Hetalia-Vietnam poster made for some sort of class presentation and a Happy Tree Friends comic that was intentionally offensive. I searched a couple wars, and there was pony fan art for all of them, while Hetalia only showed up for certain ones. I think it's weird that even an event where millions of people died horribly that still has painful repercussions today is used in fan art for anthropomorphic beings from a children's show, and there's a community that supports it. I searched for fan art about the Holocaust last, and the only thing that came up (besides some pictures of Hitler from Hetalia), was My Little Pony.

Well, yeah, that's the point of cons, to see others with your fringe interests so you don't feel as alone. You can celebrate whatever it is you're into with other people that are into it.

Whoa, chill. Also, it's not that it's a sex thing, it's offensive and disturbing on its own. There's nothing sexual about this picture of a usually sexualized fictional pony with a soldier from Vietnam. It's the fact that you and your community visibly defend "fan art" like this.

I mean, if you see it from the start as a sexual attraction then there's nothing I can do because you have a preconceived idea in your head. It's got nothing to do with sex- literally, nothing at all, much of the opposite. For many people it's simply a children's show- therefore pretty innocent and not really dealing with "heavy" topics- which doesn't suck. Not unlike PPG or Dexter's Lab(and yeah, there's a pretty big nostalgia factor, too.)

There's a whole lot of detail and quite a few reasons why someone would like the show but I doubt you want to hear it. The part that deals with that photo is simply that it's kind of a beacon of innocence at a time when plenty of people who get into it learn that the world ain't all it's made out to be. Therefore the juxtaposition. I know that's a pretty big reason of why I became a brony- simply for the reason of watching something that was cute and innocent, to really get away from the world for a few minutes.

Now, yeah. This is a show that's going to attract furries a lot, and there's not much can be done about that. So did pokemon. Doesn't mean all the pokemon fans get their rocks off to r34.
