Babies aren't allowed in first class in a lot of airlines in Europe...

That's why I just use my gulf stream!
Seriously, I've never flown first class. What I would suggest next time is a good pair of noise canceling headphones. I take the train every day and headphones make it bearable. Loud babies? People on cellphones? I don't have to worry about that anymore. If you have a super loud person? I guess you could use ear plugs, but I've never been in that situation.

In the states we can fly an airline that charges for us for drinks and snacks, none are provided.... So we have that going for us.

You really can't fly commercial these days without a quality pair of noise canceling headphones...
Noise canceling headphones, especially wireless ones, have been my best purchase in the last few years, by far.
By now I probably wouldve been sent to Gitmo for killing all the annoying people on my train. Now with noise canceling headphones im a zen master and actually can ride the train in peace. Its absolutely wonderful.

I flew first class once, but that was only after being bumped off of 2 other flights (group of us). Unfortunately I was only 22 and didn't take advantage of it (didn't care to drink much then)

I would assume some sort of emergency maintenance. I can only imagine it was something along the lines of a factory recall that affected all private jet airplanes, because that would be the only explanation for why he's not flying in one of his backup jets. Of course, I haven't noticed any such announcement come across my desk, but my personal assistant handles the trivial matters.

This happened on our honeymoon. Family with shitty kids aged 4-8. We had to complain five times before it sunk in to tell them yelling isn't appropriate.
Yeah, I was that person this week. I used to be annoyed by (bad) kids in first class too.
When I have to travel, I have no choice but to fly. Someone is always going to be annoyed, whether in coach or first class. I paid a bunch for my seat too, and I don't think kiddo would have done as well in a more cramped seat.
If the parents plan ahead, babies don't have to be screaming messes on airplanes.

I'm not a parent so that may be an obvious question, but how do you plan ahead to make sure your baby doesn't cry? What sort of black magic is this?

Kids tend to cry because they don't know how to pop their ears.
I gave kiddo a decongestant (on Dr's advice), and timed his feedings to takeoff/landing. He didn't cry at all on either 3.5hr flight.

You cannot plan away crying if they feel like crying. My daughter was 18 months when we took her on a plane in November. We took an early flight so there would be less people and she would sleep. Packed a bag full of activities. Loaded my Ipad with games and movies. Lots of snacks. Pacifiers and a bottle with milk for popping ears. Was traveling with my parents so we could move her around if she got fussy. I planned for everything within my contol.
What ended up happening was she wouldn't go back to sleep on the plane, was extremely cranky, pissed for being forced to stay in a small area, was interested in movies and toys for about 5 minutes, refused to sit with anyone accept me (mom) but wouldn't actually sit still, wouldn't eat and proceeded to make life hell for me and everyone around me. I apologized to the people around us but that's all I could do.
Trust me people with little kids on planes are having a worse time than anyone. It's stressful, embarrassing and frustrating. Unfortunately there are many times when we have to fly. In our case if we don't visit my sick, aging grandparents in another state they will never meet my daughter. We don't know how much longer they have.

You can avoid air travel until they're old enough to behave.
Like civilized people used be expected to do.
Also, I dispute your assertion "people with little kids are having a worse time than anyone." I had an idiot fuck dad sit behind me with his ill behaved little shit kicking the chair non stop. The dad had on headphones and was gaming while his kid kicked away. Two mentions to the flight attendant to make them please stop did nothing. I finally turned around and glared. Fumble fuck useless dad unit gave no fucks whatsoever. Shrugged his shoulders like what was he supposed to do about it?
Four hours of this shit. SMH.
So no, precious snowflake parent, not all of your generation is "having a worse time than anyone." Many of your peers have no fucks to give what they do to people around them. They know social morality has flipped to the point where if we even look at them wrong, they can claim some sort of harassment. As a result, we are constrained to have to put up with what used to be considered rude, boorish, impolite behavior.
Back in the day you'd have been told to your face what a bad decision you made. And be expected to address it. Not so now.
So people should put their lives on hold so it doesn't potentially effect you? Give me a break. Sorry but my daughter being able to meet her great grandparents before they die is far more important than you being bothered.
And obviously my comment was in regards to parents who are trying to do their best, which is the majority of them.
Seriously, get over yourself.
There's a compromise possible, and it involves a visit to the dr. for help with the kid sleeping through the flight.
The fact you have 'need' doesn't mean the world owes you. Sorry. Drive next time.
So people need to drug their kids so you aren't bothered for a couple hours? Wow.
Yes there are needs. People don't ways have extra time to drive because of work. There are situations where kids NEED to fly.
Again, get over yourself.
Society's changed. Being an out loud annoyance to dozen or more others used to be socially unacceptable if it was preventable. "A drug" is benadryl or possibly a thimbleful of alcohol. But what I'm already too aware of is the rampant snowflakism of today's entitled parent. They feel the world revolves around them. This exchange is proving it.
Good luck inheriting the world full of self-entitled people you're helping to create. I won't be around for it, thankfully.
The only special snowflake in this story is the guy that thinks the majority of the population needs to put years of their lives on hold, never see family or travel so he isn't potentially inconvenienced for a few hours. I fly a couple times a month, children being really obnoxious is pretty rare. I've seen adults be equally annoying. Get over yourself.
Actually it sounds like the person that believes they're a snowflake is you.
Did you know that Benadryl can have what's called a "paradoxical effect" on small children? That means the opposite of sleepiness. It means that you could have your baby wiiiiiide awake and jittery for a whole damn flight. Not to mention that the American Academy of Pediatrics SPECIFICALLY SAYS not to try to sedate your kid withy Benadryl. Babies have died that way. Bitch about special snowflakes all you want, I'm not about to put my kid's health at risk because you have tender ears.
Pretty sure children have always been a part of society. You're delusional if you think a fundamental part of the human experience isn't interacting with children. You aren't special. You have no right to live an existence free of being slightly annoyed by normal human behavior.
Children have always been a part of society. Definitely agree.
Not everyone lives in the US and could potentially drive everywhere they need to go. Not everyone can take a week out of their lives to drive thousands of miles. Buy some headphones if babies crying for a little while is a problem, or grow a pair and ask the guy to tell his kid to stop kicking your seat rather than staring at him and expecting he'll understand you telepathically.
Just because you had one bad experience with an asshole kid and an apathetic parent doesn't mean that almost every other parent isn't trying their hardest to keep their kids quiet. Kids cry sometimes. People know it's annoying, but a few hours of inconvenience for you doesn't mean every parent should remain put for the first 3 years of their kid's life.
You're a self entitled bitch. You should've had an abortion.
The best gesture ive seen is the parents who prepared bags of candy with a note in the bag that said something like:
"I am so sorry.
This is my first flight! It is very exciting, but also very scary and overwhelming, so I will likely cry and fuss at least a little bit. My parents are going to do their best to keep me comfortable and happy, but please accept these treats as reparation for any stress or annoyance I may cause you during the flight."
And they walked around the people near them and had the baby hand people the bags.
That is the only story I have heard that has disarmed my instinct of wanting to put the parents of an infant on a plane's heads on a stake.
But ya... the black magic is some sort of tranquilizer. Or keeping the baby up and exhausted beforehand (which can backfire and just make the kid more cranky instead of sleepy).
Parents of infant children should travel in minivans or not at all. Period. Its a 3-5 year stretch depending on how quickly you can civilize your little savage that you just lose as part of the cost of reproducing.

I got a dunkin donuts gift card from a couple with small children once. They were in the row behind me. It was only $5 but like, that's a couple coffees and I'm not going to complain about that. Even that small gesture made the flight much better.
But also, I understand that babies are crying to equalize their ears. They're not doing it because they're uncivilized.
Ya, I mean, I'd look more for a demo of forethought than a payoff.
And my ears equalize on a plane too. I don't start screaming and crying because civilization comes with age and education, the things the two year old doesn't have yet.

Why do you "need" to travel?
I hear that a lot "I hated babies on planes too, then I reproduced and became an extreme hypocrite and flipped my polarities".
From the ages of 1-3, when you have a kid that you have not raised far enough to ensure that they behave for 1-5 hours of sitting in a stressful situation, if you cant not fly, you don't travel. Ive heard a lot of "but I had to fly to my mom's house to show off my baby to her!". Well no... no you didnt.
So, I mean, unless you are the only person who was capable of disarming the nuke in Prague, I'm pretty sure you didn't "need" to bring a baby into first class. You really wanted to and decided fuck everyone else on the plane, your life is so much harder than theirs.
I had to attend a family emergency. I live in Alaska, so flying is the only way out that doesn't take a week.
Yes, I disliked crying kids on airplanes but I also realized it wasn't fair to expect people to be home bound for 5+ years.
I've encountered more obnoxious "adults" on airplanes, honestly.

All sound like things you aren't required for unless you are the last undertaker, minister, or doctor on earth. I can think of nothing stupider than moving let alone over seas when you have a 2 year old.
We have phones and internet. Physical presence is rarely required. Flying across country to stand around there instead of standing around at home is not an excuse.

Yeah, okay, if you get a call saying your spouse is in the hospital across the country, you go ahead and send them a "get better soon" text instead of going to be with them. And I'm sure you'd turn down a job offer that pays substantially more because there's "nothing stupider than moving when you have a 2 year old."

It used to be socially expected that kids either behave during air travel, or parents not fly with children. You'd never see kids younger than about 5 on planes. Unless they were sleeping (probably given something to help them sleep the whole trip)
Why and how that changes into self-entitled parents who have no idea how morally wrong they are, I do not know. But it has, and it's really pathetic seeing people defend their selfish actions.
Your child does not give you a right to annoy 20-30 people. Doubly so on an airplane. Stay home until the kid is able to fly properly. Or be hated by everyone around you who is more polite and more civilized than you are. Not that you care, clearly, by your actions.
How do you know? How old are you?
My parents flew with me when I was a baby/toddler quite a few times.
I've flown somewhere probably every year of my life (almost 40), and there's always been a baby on the flight. Screaming the whole flight? Maybe twice.

Bullshit. My grandmother flew to Germany alone with a two year old and an infant decades ago, and that's way too long of a flight for them to have been asleep the whole time.
