Babies aren't allowed in first class in a lot of airlines in Europe...

That just makes good sense.

That's why I just use my gulf stream!

Seriously, I've never flown first class. What I would suggest next time is a good pair of noise canceling headphones. I take the train every day and headphones make it bearable. Loud babies? People on cellphones? I don't have to worry about that anymore. If you have a super loud person? I guess you could use ear plugs, but I've never been in that situation.

Gulfstream, get it right you poser peasant.

Some Airlines (I know of Lufthansa) even hand out noise canceling Headphones (Bose QC in their case) for you to use during the flight.

Singapore air do even in business class.

Even United does that in business and first.

Just flew British. They did it in their "economy-plus"-type section (whatever they're calling it these days. World Traveler Plus?)

Actual noise cancelling or just regular headphones?

In the states we can fly an airline that charges for us for drinks and snacks, none are provided.... So we have that going for us.

[–]Gravitational_Bong 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

OK, but Spirit is a terrible airline that even my broke ass refuses to fly.

You really can't fly commercial these days without a quality pair of noise canceling headphones...

Noise canceling headphones, especially wireless ones, have been my best purchase in the last few years, by far.

By now I probably wouldve been sent to Gitmo for killing all the annoying people on my train. Now with noise canceling headphones im a zen master and actually can ride the train in peace. Its absolutely wonderful.

I flew first class once, but that was only after being bumped off of 2 other flights (group of us). Unfortunately I was only 22 and didn't take advantage of it (didn't care to drink much then)

I'm only in the emergency exit row on my second flight, the horror!

Where's your personal jet?

I think you may have dropped those, but I'm not sure. If not I can send them to the lost and found.

I would assume some sort of emergency maintenance. I can only imagine it was something along the lines of a factory recall that affected all private jet airplanes, because that would be the only explanation for why he's not flying in one of his backup jets. Of course, I haven't noticed any such announcement come across my desk, but my personal assistant handles the trivial matters.

This happened on our honeymoon. Family with shitty kids aged 4-8. We had to complain five times before it sunk in to tell them yelling isn't appropriate.

Yeah, I was that person this week. I used to be annoyed by (bad) kids in first class too.

When I have to travel, I have no choice but to fly. Someone is always going to be annoyed, whether in coach or first class. I paid a bunch for my seat too, and I don't think kiddo would have done as well in a more cramped seat.

If the parents plan ahead, babies don't have to be screaming messes on airplanes.

Wait...how?

I'm not a parent so that may be an obvious question, but how do you plan ahead to make sure your baby doesn't cry? What sort of black magic is this?

Kids tend to cry because they don't know how to pop their ears.

I gave kiddo a decongestant (on Dr's advice), and timed his feedings to takeoff/landing. He didn't cry at all on either 3.5hr flight.

Vodka in their bottle.

You cannot plan away crying if they feel like crying. My daughter was 18 months when we took her on a plane in November. We took an early flight so there would be less people and she would sleep. Packed a bag full of activities. Loaded my Ipad with games and movies. Lots of snacks. Pacifiers and a bottle with milk for popping ears. Was traveling with my parents so we could move her around if she got fussy. I planned for everything within my contol.

What ended up happening was she wouldn't go back to sleep on the plane, was extremely cranky, pissed for being forced to stay in a small area, was interested in movies and toys for about 5 minutes, refused to sit with anyone accept me (mom) but wouldn't actually sit still, wouldn't eat and proceeded to make life hell for me and everyone around me. I apologized to the people around us but that's all I could do.

Trust me people with little kids on planes are having a worse time than anyone. It's stressful, embarrassing and frustrating. Unfortunately there are many times when we have to fly. In our case if we don't visit my sick, aging grandparents in another state they will never meet my daughter. We don't know how much longer they have.

You're a self entitled bitch. You should've had an abortion.

The best gesture ive seen is the parents who prepared bags of candy with a note in the bag that said something like:

"I am so sorry.

This is my first flight! It is very exciting, but also very scary and overwhelming, so I will likely cry and fuss at least a little bit. My parents are going to do their best to keep me comfortable and happy, but please accept these treats as reparation for any stress or annoyance I may cause you during the flight."

And they walked around the people near them and had the baby hand people the bags.

That is the only story I have heard that has disarmed my instinct of wanting to put the parents of an infant on a plane's heads on a stake.

But ya... the black magic is some sort of tranquilizer. Or keeping the baby up and exhausted beforehand (which can backfire and just make the kid more cranky instead of sleepy).

Parents of infant children should travel in minivans or not at all. Period. Its a 3-5 year stretch depending on how quickly you can civilize your little savage that you just lose as part of the cost of reproducing.

You should try living in Alaska or Hawaii where you have no choice if you're going to go anywhere.

Then you don't go anywhere. I thought I was pretty clear about that.

[–]prince_of_tacoma 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

I got a dunkin donuts gift card from a couple with small children once. They were in the row behind me. It was only $5 but like, that's a couple coffees and I'm not going to complain about that. Even that small gesture made the flight much better.

But also, I understand that babies are crying to equalize their ears. They're not doing it because they're uncivilized.

Ya, I mean, I'd look more for a demo of forethought than a payoff.

And my ears equalize on a plane too. I don't start screaming and crying because civilization comes with age and education, the things the two year old doesn't have yet.

I brought earplugs for my neighbors in case the worst happened.

Sleeping pills and wodka

Why do you "need" to travel?

I hear that a lot "I hated babies on planes too, then I reproduced and became an extreme hypocrite and flipped my polarities".

From the ages of 1-3, when you have a kid that you have not raised far enough to ensure that they behave for 1-5 hours of sitting in a stressful situation, if you cant not fly, you don't travel. Ive heard a lot of "but I had to fly to my mom's house to show off my baby to her!". Well no... no you didnt.

So, I mean, unless you are the only person who was capable of disarming the nuke in Prague, I'm pretty sure you didn't "need" to bring a baby into first class. You really wanted to and decided fuck everyone else on the plane, your life is so much harder than theirs.

I had to attend a family emergency. I live in Alaska, so flying is the only way out that doesn't take a week.

Yes, I disliked crying kids on airplanes but I also realized it wasn't fair to expect people to be home bound for 5+ years.

I've encountered more obnoxious "adults" on airplanes, honestly.

Why do you "need" to travel?

Your grandparent died, your sibling is getting married, your spouse got very sick or injured while on a business trip, you're moving overseas...there are a lot of possible reasons.

Once you become a parent you get this overwhelming sense of self entitlement.

Your only plan now is to crash the plane with no survivors.

Three words. Ass seat cushion.

You should post this to /r/sixwordstories.

[–]my_lucid_nightmare -5ポイント-4ポイント  (5子コメント)

It used to be socially expected that kids either behave during air travel, or parents not fly with children. You'd never see kids younger than about 5 on planes. Unless they were sleeping (probably given something to help them sleep the whole trip)

Why and how that changes into self-entitled parents who have no idea how morally wrong they are, I do not know. But it has, and it's really pathetic seeing people defend their selfish actions.

Your child does not give you a right to annoy 20-30 people. Doubly so on an airplane. Stay home until the kid is able to fly properly. Or be hated by everyone around you who is more polite and more civilized than you are. Not that you care, clearly, by your actions.

How do you know? How old are you?

My parents flew with me when I was a baby/toddler quite a few times.

I've flown somewhere probably every year of my life (almost 40), and there's always been a baby on the flight. Screaming the whole flight? Maybe twice.

/r/childfree is leaking again. Someone check the DINK Seals please.

Bullshit. My grandmother flew to Germany alone with a two year old and an infant decades ago, and that's way too long of a flight for them to have been asleep the whole time.
