Just remember. All the money you spend on gold is paying for Ellen Pao and her husband's attorneys as they prepare to sue Reddit for discrimination.

I don't even let Reddit through Adblock anymore. As long as she is allowed to open her fucking mouth without being fired, they will see NO extra profit from me.

What happened now?

Essentially a dictator has come in charge of reddit. She wants to ban anyone who says anything she finds "offensive" essentially she wants Reddit to be completely controlled and only positivity allowed.

She wants to turn reddit into tumblr.

Some parts of tumbler have some pretty fucked up porn. Like, not quite german porn levels, but still.

Tumblr is at the forefront of the highest quality furry porn, and I'm talking fully animated 3D models with sound effects and voices.

But that's uhhh, just what I hear about it

highest quality furry porn

Now in stunning, optimized for web, 480p

Yeah, but some people use tumblr as an "appetizer" for their paid(via patreon or something) content that's actually hosted on something decent. Or they'll host it elsewhere and just use tumblr to share.

Then again, nobody said you needed video every time.

That's why e621 exists m8.

EDIT: Also the "order:score" tag

Uh, what's that? I've totally never been to that site... /s

My connection's shitty, so I download a lot of shit from there(it's still under a gig).

In 20 FPS for the real cinematic experience!

The 'yes man' robot from Fallout: NV does a constant AMA there. It's the only reason i even have a tumblr account.

which page specifically, I mean there's so many?

So a friend tell you about that stuff?

NSFW: polysutraparty.tumblr.com

kinky

"Oh, those disgusting tumblr porno sites. I mean there's so many of them, though. Which one? Which one is fucked up?"

[–]tooterfish_popkin 7ポイント8ポイント  (4子コメント)

Some parts of tumbler have some pretty fucked up porn. Like, not quite german porn levels, but still.

This person knows their porn hierarchy and where shizer film sits on it.

[–]Reelix 0

Welcome to Reddit!

/r/rittering - German Dungeon Porn!
/r/germanindustrialporn - German Industrial Porn!
/r/germanporn ... Trust me - You don't wanna know...

I'm actually very saddened by these. I was told there would be porn.

I've never been quite certain where nugget (quadruple amputee porn) sits though. It would make me more uncomfortable than shizer, but i don't feel like it should.

This person knows their porn hierarchy and where shizer film shits on it.

FTFY

What kind of fucked up porn?

Mad Max: Furry Road

Mad Mink: Furry Rode

And some parts of reddit do too. Not sure what your point is.

not quite german porn levels

it gets much worse than german porn levels, you are just not looking hard enough

No that's not true - we exceed German levels, you just aren't looking hard enough.

We'll find a new reddit, we've done it before and we'll do it again. Has anyone heard of this cool website called digg.com?

Edit: I just came back from digg. What the fuck did they do to it? It's even worse then it was 4 years ago.

We'll find a new reddit

With blackjack and hookers.

In fact forget about reddit!

The perfect dowsing rod

[–]thats_a_risky_click 6ポイント7ポイント  (0子コメント)

Digg is dead dude. What you see there is a decomposing corpse.

Try one of these:

Snapzu

Voat

Hubski

Hacker News

Lettuce make Voat happen.

Voat is just Woahverse rebranded, fyi. It's why they still call subreddits "subverses".

I vote we call it breaddit and run on up and downloaves.

Edit: I just came back from digg. What the fuck did they do to it? It's even worse then it was 4 years ago.

I visited digg.com for a few, a very few, minutes last week when reddit was down and had the same reaction.

Let's all go to the haxor 4chans site.

We'll find a new reddit

That's not how tumblr works at all.

[–]intentional_feeding 12ポイント13ポイント  (1子コメント)

i would gild this, but ellen pao is still employed by reddit. instead, here's $5 /u/ChangeTip

Holy shit. Thank you. My first bit of bitcoin.

Yeah, sure. That's a balanced and nuanced analysis of the situation.

Dipshit.

Shit, guess I'll just have go out and get a life. Welp, it's been a pleasure neckbearding with you guys

Pretty much she also thinks freedom of speech is not needed.

How dare you speak that way about Chairman Pao. Who do you think you are?

#hailpao

Now's a good time to head on over to voat.co

I hope I don't get shadow banned.

thanks for linking this :)

Is there a mobile app for that?

I don't know, if there isn't already there probably will be. But it works OK on mobile browsers for me.

I'm on the case, see you in 6 months.

But where else am I going to get misleading titles and one-sided, hive mind comments?

how did she get her power? Also thank you for explaining. Also fuck this bitch I will say whatever the fuck I want.

Reddit hired her after a big scandal. She specifically said recently:

"It's not our site's goal to be a completely free-speech platform"

Here is more information

Reddit is reddit because of being free-speech platform. At least thats what i'm thinking.

If she's successful Reddit will go the way of digg and the users will move on to another site that serves the purpose that reddit did. Life goes on.

Apparently Voat is the agreed upon meeting place.

Do they UpVoat and DownVoat there?

It looks pretty much identical to reddit.

Please inform me of such a platform so I can make a mental note for the inevitable Reddipocalypse.

It seems from comments here that www.voat.co is the currently anointed successor to Reddit.

Reddit when I first came to it was a site full of libertarian techies who wanted to bitch about Bush, share weird news, look at articles about linux and programming languages, and talk about how pot needs to be legal. It was a Ron Pual circle jerk with electronics. Now the leader wants to limit free-speech.

Those are the same fond memories I have of this site.

I am unsure. All I'm aware of is she's in charge and has specifically said " I do not believe in free speech" and "I want Reddit to be a safe place" Woman's a moron. It's insane how she can be put in charge and yet still miss the point of the site so completely.

Wow... This is a sad time for reddit. Servers going down frequently and now we have this bitch. Fuck. Her.

Pao says that the team dealt with 20 to 30 harassment claims in the past "half a week,"

So out of the how many million users, she got ~25 harassment complaints? Better nuke the whole damn thing!

Clearly because Canada has had a few serial killers we better nuke it from orbit. No compromise

There a different between saying reddit does not have free speech as its ultimate ideal (which should not come as a shock; the "no doxing" rule has existed for a very long time) and saying they don't believe in free speech

Well I don't think doxxing qualifies as free speech... That specifically is a situation of spreading their information with malicious intent, which is not a protected situation under and nations vision of free speech.

Just like free speech, the right to privacy is baked into the customs of America. Doxxing is a violation of that right. Remember that neither the 1st amendment nor the right to privacy apply to privately owned businesses such as Reddit, they are strictly about preventing the government from limiting these rights. So they are equally relevant/irrelevant.

Tl;dr protection from doxxing and free speech both.

I always thought yi "everyone is responsible for their own soul" Shan put her in as CEO because they're good friends.

I am not aware of the whole story, but doesn't it sound like when she says "not everyone can say what they want", it's probably things like doxing that gets deleted so people are "safe"?

Ellen Pao is strong leader that reddit need to safe space!

Ellen Pao has a wide vagina

Not just wide, but deep! Legends say it reaches thirty feet back and has a secret compartment full of treasure.

And whoever could pull it out would be crowned King Pao.

Dabloon shaped condoms and cock ring rubies for all!!

so you're saying she'll turn all of reddit into /r/SRS ??

She will ruin the business.

Oh well in that case, Ellen Pao can suck my cock like the stupid cunty whore she is.

I'm not sure she said that at all. She was directly asked on NPR this week if her new policies meant that subreddits that supported hate speech and racism would continue to exist...and it didn't seem like she was looking to close those down. So I think maybe it's not as Orwellian as you might be imagining it.

Not so much. I mod a "misogynyfetish" sub and have not been banned,

Judging from how things went down on 4chan when a similar thing happened, looks like it's time to make 8Reddit.

Personally I'd like to pitch the idea of breaddit, a community based on a grainy love as well as up and downloaves.

Wait this is satire right? She made a vague statement about keeping Reddit a "safe place" and now she is a dictator?

That is definitely not all she said. She used the words "not a place for free speech" The entire intention behind these moves is to make Reddit more suitable for advertisers, (despite their user driven revenue gains such as reddit gold far exceeding expectations and monetary goals) with little to no care for the users.

So.. A person speaking directly against free speech looking to use her power to control the people in turn for money doesnt sound dictartorish to you at all?

Yes "positivity" also know as bigotry from the radfem crowed.

So... Where should we all meet up next?

Is there another place we can all go? I'm aware of the new CEO and I kind of hate being here now...but I will miss you all...

We'll always have that goddamn safe...

And she's a shitty employee so she accused someone of sexual assault at her previous job.

Whoa wait. Where can I hear about these kinda things?

[–]intentional_feeding 48ポイント49ポイント  (3子コメント)

well-put. since i'm boycotting reddit gold, here's $5 /u/ChangeTip

edit: the irony. the solid gold irony.

You have a need to throw money out the door?

[–]intentional_feeding 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

i felt like gilding his comment, but knowing that the farce of a ceo that is ellen pao would benefit from that, i refrained.

i'll just reward him with $5 by other means.

Looks like you paid the gold price and the irony price

We need to stop buying gold until she steps down, or takes back her words. Gold strike!

You're just saying that to get gold, and some idiot will probably fall for it

Edit. I knew exactly what I was doing

It's your time to shine, Reddit Silver.

There has been things you can say that get you banned on reddit for many many years. Don't believe me? Post someone's personal details. You will be banned for doxxing.

She wasn't describing some massive change in the ethos of the site, she was describing the status quo.

Why don't we know what exactly what the rules are? All I want to know is exactly to the letter what the rules are.

lol all I see are people saying "Do not give gold" and someone gets gold

i need to understand something

Why does the money reddit get, go to a person who would sue reddit?

thats like bill gates suing microsoft?

Because she has no ownership stake. She's an interim CEO that's getting a paycheck, but also has a history of suing prestigious firms for discrimination. She also has a JD and an MBA, so she's in the business of suing companies for money to line her pockets. A dangerous combo. Same reason why Mitt Romney (also JD and MBA) got into leveraged buyouts. He also didn't give a shit about the companies he worked for as long as he personally made money.

I may be a bit out of the loop, but what happened to the previous owner? He was a redditor himself (i.e. a username and would post). I think he was Asian. He made the site. Did he quit?

You are thinking of Yishan Wong?

He resigned, although there are other versions of that story. Feel free to make up your own mind on the matter.

So, a JD and MBA makes people like, automatically evil?

That isn't true, she was on the list of angel investors they published when they went "independent"

I thought that was the company she worked for, not her as an individual?

It listed her specifically but admittedly I'm not sure.

One lawsuit is hardly "a history of suing prestigious firms".

Because she's currently employed by reddit, and therefore draws a paycheck from them?

No money to reddit, no ellen pao paycheck

So why would reddit hire her, if she wants to sue them?

it still makes no sense. you're not really explaining anything

They are claiming she is going to sue Reddit because she is currently in a lawsuit against her former employer. Reddit has no expectation that she will sue them, these people are just saying she will because she is currently suing Kleiner Perkins.

Sued*

She lost that case. TBD if she appeals.

If she appeals, KP will stick her with their attorney fees (close to $1MM) to which they are entitled since they won. If she does not appeal, they will not seek their attorney fees.

Not necessarily. You can countersue for attorney costs (and I believe you are correct, they've said if she appeals they will do so) but you're not automatically entitled to the other party paying your court costs. KP would need to show the case was frivolous.

[–]CaptainObvious_1 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Cute sarcastic question mark asshole, it's a valid question and the situation makes no sense to an outsider.

Whos been allowing Reddit through Adblock. Is that really a thing

I used to whitelist reddit, but with RES, that kind of turns to shit with Youtube ads and co. making their way through...

think of all the puppies and kitties you missed :(

yeah, you can whitelist reddit or else choose the option to "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" in ABP

Has she ever visited the site before?

You have been banned from Reddit.com for this comment.

WHO GAVE THIS GUY GOLD?! YOU JUST DEFEATED THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF HIS MESSAGE. I MEAN I HAD TO GO ALL CAPS LOCK I'M THAT INTERNET UPSET (different from upset irl or course)

It's even worse than this. When Pao stepped in, she changed the image of reddit completely.

Remember when reddit was anti-censorship? In the early days, that was the cornerstone of the website. No censorship. Yes, there were certainly questionable boards on reddit that the average person would find morally reprehensible. However, that's kind of the point of being against censorship. As long as nobody is directly harmed in the production of the content (such as in child pornography, which was always banned contrary to SRS lies), you have to accept the good with the bad. That's why blatantly racist or sexist boards like /r/coontown or /r/theredpill can exist. They're separated from the rest of reddit, so what's the harm?

Now, Pao doesn't want reddit to be anti-censorship. She wants reddit to accept certain messages, and refuse other messages. Who decides this? Well, since several moderators of large front page boards, and even administrators on reddit, are also mods/supporters of SRS, you can guess whose decision it will be for what is tolerated. It's also very telling that Pao sued her previous employer with a frivolous discrimination suit and still had the gall to say she's fighting for women's rights.

The standards on reddit are going to be absurd and make reddit appeal to a very vocal minority of the social justice types. Things like /r/coontown will be the first to go, but then what happens with boards like /r/MensRights (which SRS types slander as being a bunch of rape apologists) and /r/TumblrInAction? How long until people are getting banned from reddit for making completely non-inflammatory posts on /r/fatlogic or other boards of that type? Not long at all.

Right now they're treading carefully with baby steps--a shadowban here, a shadowban there, a mention of certain "questionable" boards every so often, a hint at what's to come as well--but reddit discussion will soon be unrecognizable from what it currently is.

I don't understand why people could not care about this and still support Pao's bullshit with gold purchases. Obviously it's not only SRS/SRD making all of the gold purchases. I just think a lot of users don't believe what's happening to the site now.

Reddit's never been an outlet for free speech though. The voting system makes sure that popular opinions circulate and dissent is downvoted unless its phrased as diplomatically and toothlessly as possible. The exceptions don't break the rule.

I guess I don't see how coming down on brigading and slurs is anything but increasing the potential for good discourse.

We don't give a shit because this is the internet, the freest of the free markets, reddit won't notice 1% of it's userbase now boycotts gold.

What's going to happen, is they're not going to notice a damn thing, they're going to make changes that piss people off, start small, then they're going to ramp up to a few stronger changes, piss off a solid percentage of users.

And then the mass exodus will begin. This is when they'll notice, and it will also be far too late.

Nexopia, Myspace, Digg, it's all the same, website admins who thought they knew better, they'll never learn.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Hear, hear! Fuck the censor, fight the censor!

Something tells me not every penny from reddit gold goes straight to Ellen Pao and her husband. I would imagine a lot of it actually goes towards developing the website and expanding servers.

Edit: I love that you got reddit gold for your comment-- too funny!

lot of it actually goes towards developing the website and expanding servers.

From the frequency of outages lately, that isn't the case at all.

Not every outage is due to server overload, though. The outage last night, for example, was for a database upgrade.

More people could be using reddit than before, so perhaps that's why there are outages? Plus people tend to remember outages more than uptime.

[–]remington_steele 6ポイント7ポイント  (1子コメント)

More people could be using reddit than before

Yup, this is why they monitor usage numbers and plan to scale appropriately. More users = more advertising $$ = more need to scale...this shouldn't a surprise to anyone and is not an excuse for downtime.

people tend to remember outages more than uptime.

Yup, they are rare events and they need to shoot for zero downtime, not "most of the time, the site is up". I remember the last time Google was down - it was in the news. Facebook was down once earlier this year (prior to that, their record has been stellar), Amazon has never been down for me. Those are yearly occurrences. The fact that Reddit outages are a weekly is frankly abysmal.

Agreed. No excuses, this is the real world.

"I would imagine ..." -- not what I expected from RationalArgumentMan :(

[–]Negative_Innovation 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

the fact u got gilded for this LOL

Why don't we just make a new Reddit? With blackjack and hookers?

Yup. Used to buy tons of gold but reddit has changed hugely over the past few months.

Typical Ellen... We don't invite her to family gatherings any more.

Dude, you are like the bravest person who ever lived.

What if we just raise enough money together as a community to essentially buy out reddit from pao to create a website more freely run by its community?

The fact that you think Pao owns or can sell reddit is a bit indicative of how much you'd be able to contribute to this slush fund.

We'll make our own reddit, with blackjack... and hookers.

If we were able to get our community united enough to raise several million dollars, it'd be 1000x the effort of getting the community united enough to migrate to another free site who'd be more than happy to suddenly have millions of hits a day to serve ads to.

Reddit doesn't have anything worth buying beyond the userbase, it's just some basic web stuff and a simple concept.

That's CHAIRMAN Pao to you, you disrespectful misogynistic shitlord.
