Hello reddit, this is /u/Jewboys_Rival. I actually worked on this whole reddit team fiasco when it first started. Originally I contacted esportslaw on the subject, and was then passed onto the original op of the first thread, who already started on the project. "Great!" I thought. "I can help him out, maybe contact some more well known people to head the project, talk to the mods, etc. While he does the crowdfunding and voting side of things!" I even talked to the mods, and told him about how they wanted transparency and that reddit not be involved in the project in terms of name.

However, he ignored that advice and continued to use reddit in the name. In fact, once I mentioned that mods wanted some form of transparency and that we needed more well known people heading the project, he literally just stopped talking to me and started to ignore my messages. But of course, before that he had to defend his payment, stating that it would just be a little money, and that it would develop over time into a "Full time job". He planned on running this team while working a fast food job, while monetarily subsidizing his paychecks with donation money until the team started to make money.

Honestly, he's been extremely immature and just wants to use you all for a cushy job in esports, with no repercussions on his side. He's childish and just wants you to fund his life for him. I haven't heard the crowdfunding goal, but I am pretty sure that its large enough to give him a nice, livable wage while he buys people to play for him to earn him more money at no expense of his own.

TL;DR: Dude wants your money so he can get a cushy job as a team owner. Doesn't want others to head the project and plans on paying himself a good amount of the crowdfunding money. Don't buy his shit.

EDIT 2: Please stop messaging me about going into business with the idea of a reddit funded team. Its simply a thing that is unable to happen. Sure, I love the idea of it working out, and would of loved working on a project like that, but it simply cannot be done, unless it was an actual pro player building it. Even then, it might not succeed. I'm not going to make my own team or anything, so please stop asking me to.
