common sense statistical reasoning is actually quite important in life. You should obviously act very differently if walking home at 2am you come across a group of elderly female asians who are well dressed than if you saw young male blacks wearing hoodies.

That doesn't mean EVERY young male black wearing a hoodie is a criminal. But on AVERAGE each of those descriptors is associated with higher crime rates, and we act accordingly.

Of course, saying this in public leads to a total meltdown due to feels and social "holier than thou" signaling.
