Back in the day when there were no workplace safety standards and no health insurance policies men did a lot of hard backbreaking work so that women don't have to do the same and could lead a better life and only attend to household matters and raising children.

Of course raising children wasn't an easy job either when you had 7-8 of them, but a housewife wouldn't risk end up getting mangled by an unsafe machinery or crushed by a heavy crate during loading.

Also there needed to be an incentive to make men willing to take up these dangerous tasks. It came with perks such as being able to tell a woman to get back in the kitchen. That's why a traditional role of protector and provider worked in those hard days. And no, domestic violence was punishable even then, but would usually be fines (or public whippings) because jailing the man would mean the entire family loses their source of income. Men were on the other hand criminally responsible for their wives' crimes, and yes, they could be punished for that.

As for the vote, it was tied to military service and it expanded anyway. First land owners could vote. Then people who were subject to the draft. Then it was expanded to military nurses and other women serving in the army etc. With or without the Suffragettes (who were violent racist bitches anyway) there was the Suffragist movement who wanted votes for EVERYONE. Many women back then didn't even want the vote (see the British polls) because they feared they would have to serve in the army just like the men or would lose other female privileges. And besides, it didn't really matter anyway because there were ad campaigns along the lines of "tell your husband to vote for X, because reasons", because you may or may not be surprised, but women weren't as oppressed as you might think they were and actually had a say in a number of things (the Declaration of Sentiments, the tender years doctrine, the Abolitionist movement, the alcohol prohibition during the 20's-30's).

Also certain restrictions on women had very good reasons. For example women needing a male co-signer for transactions was the way it was BECAUSE WOMEN WERE NOT FINANCIALLY ACCOUNTABLE AT THE TIME BECAUSE NO JUDGE WOULD PROSECUTE THEM, and people who lent money or sold properties were not stupid and had to find a way to make the male relatives of the women accountable.

In other words, the history is much more complicated than you like to think, the feminists lied to you, back then everybody had a shit time, and you sitting here and talking trash about men in general is fucking disgusting.

And don't pick on men's rights activists anymore, you started the fight by screwing men over and denying our own gender liberation movement, which is starting now, after being repressed for decades. And MRAs are generally from what I've seen egalitarian anyway. They only seek to give men the same de-facto legal rights (they are on paper, but not in practice) and would at most want to strip you of your special privileges... and you women are privileged. By your own definition PRIVILEGE IS INVISIBLE TO THOSE WHO HAVE IT. So suck it up, man up (or woman up) and pay up what YOU owe.
