Taylor Swift is no longer among the scores of female pop stars for which the word “feminist” is “too strong” to apply.
In fact, the award-winning singer describes the movement for gender equality as “probably the most important” that a woman can be part of.
But she has an interesting theory as to how negative attitudes towards women actually manifested in the first place.
“Misogyny is ingrained in people from the time they are born,” she told Maxim magazine.
“So to me, feminism is probably the most important movement that you could embrace, because it’s just basically another word for equality.
“A man writing about his feelings from a vulnerable place is brave; a woman writing about her feelings from a vulnerable place is oversharing or whining.”

However, she admitted she hasn’t always understood the concept. It turns out, feminism was not the man-hating, gender-dividing club for radicals she might have thought it was.
Asked whether she was a feminist by The Daily Beast in 2012, she said: “I don't really think about things as guys versus girls. I was... brought up to think if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life.”
“I didn’t have an accurate definition of feminism when I was younger,” she told Maxim of her earlier comments. “I didn’t quite see all the ways that feminism is vital to growing up in the world we live in. I think that when I used to say, ‘Oh, feminism’s not really on my radar,’ it was because when I was just seen as a kid, I wasn’t as threatening.”
In slightly less campaigning feminist news, Swift has just released her cameo-studded new music video for single “Bad Blood”, which features Victoria’s Secret models and, erm, Lena Dunham, wielding compact mirrors as weapons and kicking their opponents in the face with stiletto shoes.

The song is thought to be about a fall-out she had with former friend Katy Perry, though Swift is yet to confirm the speculation.

I never used to think about sexism until I started reading online comments, and then I was surprised how I could be reading an article about the weather and there would always be at least one man whinging on about his hatred of women or feminists, as if they think they can tell women what they can be. I was reading an article about the Waitrose self service system, where a man had forgotten to pay because he was looking after his children. There wasn't anything about women in the article, yet there was a man in the comment section blaming everything on menopausal women. Then I read another article about self service checkouts, and there was a man going on about his hatred of women. I never realised so many men had the abusive partner or serial killer mentality. They say women nag?

After she demanded her ex, Harry, get sexually mutilated to adhere to her aesthetic preferences, it's no surprise to see her ramping up a hate campaign and trying to make women into gigantic victims.
I suppose Harry was misogynistic for not mutilating his penis to please her?

What a typical feminist bigot.

Feminism is about getting more people into the tax system a.k.a. the system, this in turn provides the state with earlier and longer access to children. 'Equality' means women must now also work until they're 68. It's genius really and who gains and who loses.

1st wave of feminism, actually for eqaulity

2nd wave, same thing. For EQUALITY.

Third wave? Literally special treatment. Don't believe me?

"Equal opportunity is not enough to ensure gender equality, according to a groundbreaking new report from U.N. Women. Instead, governments must commit to social policies that treat women differently in order to help them achieve economic parity with men."

"“We must go beyond creating equal opportunities to ensure equal outcomes,” the report says. “‘Different treatment’ may be required to achieve real equality in practice.” This report, called Progress of the World’s Women 2015–2016, is one of the first major international reports to acknowledge that legal equality for women does not translate into actual equality"

That's right, equal opportunities are misogynistic or something.

Around 20 million views on youtube bring a certain responsibility, but the portrayal of violence, the lyrics containing the line "we have problems, don't think we can solve them" send a certain, unhelpful, message. The thin wail of feminism shveminism in media statements and military sexy costumes do not rescue anything. I see it is a fantasy, but why do the makers think its acceptable to kick people in a face with a stiletto? We don't need violence, especially not portrayed by what popular culture see as some of the most beautiful women today. And Taylor, please stop talking nonsense about what is or what is not ingrained in a human brain since birth. Thank you very much.

The prevalence of misogyny is a myth created and perpetuated by the hate-cult called "feminism" in furtherance of its aims to demonise men, control women and gain power for feminists.

Feminism is as evil as racism; it is time it was eradicated.

What about ISIS? Misogyny taken to the highest level, this is what happens when there is no restraint by law and order. How can feminism be as evil as this ,or as racism. Has feminism caused mass murder or slavery?Feminism is simply about women exercising some control over their own lives.

What about ISIS? It is a religious cult - it certainly doesn't hate women, which is the definition of misogyny. Yes, it does terrible things, but that has no bearing on this issue.

Racism is the hatred of people of other races or the belief that one's own race is superior. Feminism is the hatred of males or the belief that the femle sex is superior.

"Feminism is simply about women exercising some control over their own lives."

Hilarious!!! One the one hand we have feminists saying women should be free to wear whatever they like - then, in the next breath, they are demanding that women should not be wearing the burkha. My wife is a housewife - by choice. She gets no end of grief from feminists for that.

Feminism is a vile dogma.

“Misogyny is ingrained in people from the time they are born,”

That's a very bold statement with very little evidence to back it up. I don't deny that misogyny exists but it's a stretch to say that it's in everyone from birth. Isn't the first person a baby loves his/her mother?

“A man writing about his feelings from a vulnerable place is brave; a woman writing about her feelings from a vulnerable place is oversharing or whining.”

Actually it's usually the exact opposite. How often do we tell men to "man up" or "grow a pair" when they talk about their feelings? Yet in my experience when a woman is upset she gets sympathy from everyone.

As someone pointed out the bleeding obvious fact: Our views may change as we experience life.

Nothing in life is ever fixed.
10 years ago my viewpoint was different to how it is today.
Taylor is a young person so measure her viewpoints in single years, not multiples for her age group.

There is nothing wrong about changing your viewpoint, it is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Why can't people refer to equality rather than feminism.

The very word implies it's about feminine issues/concerns (I couldn't find a better word than issues).

"They are campaigning for Gender Equality" maybe so, but that's not what the word itself implies.

How many words starting "fem" are not related to a specific gender (genuine question)?

Which is why I'd much rather people would call themselves 'equalists' or some such (I'm sure someone can come up with a better name) and campaign for equality in both directions on ALL issues.

"Feminism" is about fixing problems where women are unfairly discriminated against (I'm not trying to say that we shouldn't), not about fixing any and all sexual equality.

@ Da Foot, I would try not to get hung up about the word itself, its not important, otherwise it gets as ridiculous as complaining about 'mankind' to cover both male and female, 'chairman' and other such male implied words. It is the action around equality for both sides that is important, not the words, in my opinion of course :-)

That is something a lot of people get wrong about feminism. It is about equality. I do my best to share issues that men experience as well are women to prove that. There is of course an extreme side of feminism, women that hate men but those numbers are so small. Feminism is about EQUALITY FOR ALL.

Then why not call yourself an egalitarian, rather than a feminist? "Feminism" implies focus on the feminine, and it's impossible to achieve equality between two social groups by focusing on just one of them.

Research as many feminist authored "studies" or "surveys" you want - you'll a recurring pattern in ALL of them; "man bad/woman good".
