>>39987390Not without proper warning. Typically if its gonna contain more "adult material", you kinda give people a bit of a primer in a sense. For example, lets say you're gonna do a hard hitting cop/investigator drama scenario that deals with say sexual abuse for the RPG. You'd advertise the session mature, maybe listing a few things that may be encountered, and if people are still unsure you clarify that there may be sexual content or violent sexual content within the game. Its usually not just sprung on people. And even then, those kinds of issues don't usually pop up too much at cons.

Temüjin has moved his tribe north, near the goblin infested foothills, and made camp. A feast was held, and the tribe's shaman revealed a new totem: the mighty bison. Imbued with magic known only to the shaman, the tribe may now breed new types of centaurs: half bison, half man. The tribe prepares to dispatch a raiding party into the hills so kill and enslave as many goblins as they can, and Temüjin has sent his two best diplomats west to seek out and hold council with the men of Isburn. Temüjin rallies his warriors and prepares to trek into the treacherous foothills, but the centaurs are well prepared and will raid under the cover of night.
Rolled 48 (1d100)Send 25 centaurs
>>39985118The raiding party is 26 strong, including Temüjin, who leads the group into the hills. An hour passes and a den has not been sighted. Temüjin dispatches a few warriors to scout ahead, and after they return within the hour. They tell their leader that they have spotted a lone giant sleeping atop a hill, about a twenty minutes trek deeper into enemy territory. Other than that, there are no dens sighted. What will you do?A: Swarm the sleeping giant with all of your warriors. B: Move deeper into the hills, away from the giant in search of goblin dens.C: Other (specify)
>>39985310Can we kill a giant using our bows? Of course our default tactic should always make use of our mobility and ranged capabilities, so we should only attack him if we have reasonable chances of killing him from range.

"Nah, I'm done studying," you say, jumping out of the car. "I'll stick around for awhile. My finals are tomorrow, anyways.""Thanks," she says, clearly grateful that you're not leaving her alone with strangers.Susan's waiting at the front desk when you step inside. You introduce them to each other and ask what she's going to do with Liza."Sabrina's waiting for you on the third floor in the lab," Susan tells Liza. "Hawthorne will show you the way.""Cool," Liza says, trying to remain calm. "Let's go."When the two of them leave, Susan turns to you. "Come on, we can speak in my office. It's on the second floor."You let her lead you past the front desk and to a different set of elevators down the white hallways. When you get in, you notice that the elevator has a set of buttons for floors lower than the ground floor."What are those for?" you ask her.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
The elevator only goes a few feet before it stops on the 2nd floor. The hallway looks the same as the other floors, but most of the doors in this hallway have nameplates on them."So when do I get my own office?" you ask her."When you're a senior agent and you actually need one," she replies. She pulls out an identification card and swipes the lock on the door before opening it. A large wooden desk dominates the middle of the room, a laptop and a few monitors on the side of the desk. Filing cabinets take up the back corners of the room, while a few chairs neatly line the walls. You notice a lack of personal decoration on the desk, and you get a vibe of neatness and orderliness from the room as a whole.Susan closes the door behind you and motions for you to take a seat as she sits down on her side of the desk. You'll admit to yourself that you're a little intimidated, the desk layout making you think of her as a teacher and you as the student."So," she says, opening up her laptop. "Give me your report. You don't need to be formal, I'll be the one taking notes. Just tell me what happened today in chronological order."(2/2)>Paint Liza in a favorable lightComment too long. There are times when a culture develops towards an economy with a large number of unfree laborers. These can be out and out slaves, serfs bound to the land or simply peasants who are so hopelessly impoverished that they eek out only a marginal existance lorded over by a class of high ranking aristocrats and their various enforcers. In such a society, a mentality is cultivated amongst it's rulers: they view the solution to every problem of production is to throw more manpower at it and to push the workers as hard as possible to get them out of being 'lazy'. The leaders will not sully their hands with material things, their underlings will have no time to innovate. In any case letting them innovate cultivates classes which the overlords fear. This is Slave Driver Mentality and it always breeds stagnation. In the long run, a society with Slave Driver Mentality will always be overcome by one which does not.

>>39987153>you can't have a country without taxation.
>>39987112I think this is quite enough to define it:- Capital accumulation: Production for profit and accumulation as the implicit purpose of all or most of production.- Commodity production: Production for exchange on a market.- Private ownership of the means of production: Ownership of the means of production by a class of capital owners, either individually or collectively.Or more simply: making capital out of capital.>>39987153>The invisible hand theory by Adam smith is literally one of the foundations of capitalism. No, it's one of the foundations of classical economics, but that's really utterly irrelevant. People selling themselves "out of their own self-interest" can fit wage labor, indentured servitude, debt-bondage, prison labor and even full slavery (child labor shouldn't even need to be mentioned) without contradicting any core principle of either classical economics or capitalism.Certainly the early capitalists accepted and used all these forms of labor, and further encouraged or practiced any form or compulsion or coercion to get people to work, such as legislation against idleness or vagrancy, engineering necessity, predatory finance, or plain old violence and terror. Turns out "I must do this if I don't want to die" can be framed as self-interest, as the ancient Greeks were already arguing 2500 years ago. There was even a common viewpoint among early capitalists, not unlike that of the communist vanguard parties, that the foolish masses cannot even recognize their own interests (the obvious benefits of abandoning the family farm to come work in the coal mines for subsistence wages for example) and that the enlightened few have a moral duty to ignore their protests and push, kick or whip them towards the glorious future. This attitude is still alive in the modern era in various forms, such as Sachs' shock therapies, the IMF's programs or the neocons' economic plans for the Middle East.

>>39986873>If you run games, games will be run for you, it's the oldest rule in the hobby, it kills me that people still don't know this.I think it's less about people not knowing this and more about people being unwilling to do something that isn't fun when they're looking to have fun. Even if forcing yourself to run games could lead to someone running games for you someday, most people would rather do something they enjoy right now in their free time. Suffering for future gain is all well and good when it comes to work, education and various long-term goals, but it's not something most people want from activities meant for rest and relaxation.Aside from that, in my experience people who don't actually want to GM tend to run shitty games. Even if they try their best, it is hard to enjoy a group activity when a key member of the group clearly isn't into it. Forcing yourself to GM when you've never actually tried it can help you figure out whether it's for you, but forcing yourself to GM when you already know it isn't for you usually won't be fun for anyone.
