So /asp/, I've been training in shotokan karate for just under 17 years now, having won plenty of tournaments in my time but never anything that really meant something to me. I've been invited to the Kumite coming up soon this year, and I'm just wondering if you guys have any advice on how to prepare?
>>668681>my karate got exponentially better when I stopped theorising why I was better than boxers and started learning from thempost of the goddamn year right here

Guys,Doing this 6 days straight F1+HS is pretty good, but sometimes I lack the motivation to go to the park and do this. I feel no soreness or pain, just my body says stay and relax.Maybe is this work for 8 hours and then exercise for 2 + girlfriend that gets me like this.Anyone that have experience this? I still go to exercise, but I don't want to feel this feeling.
Also, checking F2 I realized I'm pretty fuck if I don't have rings or any gimnastic equipment. Why live?
>>668533i currently have absolutely nothing , closest place i can do pullups is 10 minutes awayi guess buying some equipment which will last lifetime is still better than paying for gym
GJ on creating new thread. But we really needed a general answer to all the questions about the reddit routine.>>668533>>668539We must do with what we have and find replacements either equipment or exercises, in that order.
Hey guysWhat's your opinion on doing Startbodyweight but doing it 4 days per week (1 day training and a day rest)? I won't do the exactly same exercises as they're written in the site, I'll do my own routines too but is it a solid start? I've been doing some tries to start with exercises, doing push-ups, pull-ups, planks, squats, etc but my shit just doesn't arrange properly. The routine is not precise enough
Let's have a grappling thread. BJJ, Sambo, Judo, Wrestling, Luta Livre, Sumo, Shuai Jiao, even Aikido. All styles are welcome. Talk about techniques, conditioning, competitions, or anything else you want to, as long as it relates to grappling.

>>6687331-3 times a week. The drive doesn't bother me but it gets expensive.
>>668600You're searching for illusory evidence and supposition to back up the fact that you train in horse shit. At my BJJ school, we are often taught the wrist lock as a viable option from everywhere. I have subbed with it and have been subbed with it. However, it has its drawbacks and doesn't see any action outside of blue belt. Slamming is a different story, and I think that BJJ could change its rules to allow points for lifting your opponent's hips over yours without completing the guard slam. I know that the Steven Seagals of the world like yourself would rather see everyone get paralyzed from a throw that is banned even in fucking judo, but daki age is a career finisher.

I like the four horse and icelandic gambit.Four horse is simple and easy enough to remember-if you go a while without studying chess seriously. Getting the icelandic gambit to work is one of the most satisfying feelings there is. Simple as that really. I do like the London system just because it seems intuitive to me. I never used the-sorry in advanced-queen side london system because I couldn't. Mastering tactics to that level takes some work. I never even got close.

>fw reading supertopo, come across a good post>look at the profile who posted it>it's john long
>>668689That means to work on your footwork. Odds are you focus all your energy and thought on the handholds. You need to have that same awareness about your feet: what part of your foot are you stepping on it with, would it feel better with a left or right foot, how hard you're pressing down on it, etc. It's pretty common for noobies to focus way too much on the upper body aspect of climbing. Feet are extremely important.

>>668242I'll start with hatakikomi which translates to 'slap down'.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ztk_prise-de-sumo-hatakikomi_sportSimply evade to the outside and use your opponents forward momentum to make them fall or stumble.I find this technique to be really effective with an open palm strike or double strike to the kidney or upper ribcage. You can use your arms to brush your opponents strikes aside and then come down hard on their back or side. Step by step this technique involves:- stepping off to either side by 45 degrees- from a lowered position bringing one or both arms up in a circular motion toward the opponent (anti-clockwise on the right, clockwise on the left)- striking down to the closest part of the opponents body (arms, torso, head all work, it may work on the hips/buttocks, grabbing the mawashi also works)Comment too long. For this technique to work the arm needs to open up and straighten.Step by step:- step off to either side by 45 degrees- while hooking your arm underneath your opponents armpit use your other hand to strike/push the head away (this will force the arms to open up)- dig elbow into opponents ribs, pivot rear leg and push down- place other hand on shoulder and pull downComment too long. http://www.encasedinsteel.co.uk/2015/05/15/the-emergence-of-historical-technique-in-modern-tournaments/Any thoughts ?
>>668553I did judge a lot of tournament fights as of lately and honestly, it is an experience thing. You need a lot of training to get proper form and then some more to apply this in tournament fencing. Some guys take a shortcut and just get really good at tournament fencing, this sometimes has also to do with them being gifted fencers (natural instinct, timing, distance management, speed etc.). The other thing is also true, there are some guys with excellent form, but they can't fence for shit, telegraphing like hell and always half a tempo late.Historic techniques work really well for tournament sparring, but it takes years to drill them and a skilled opponent to tickle them out, otherwise the fight just looks like an ugly mess.

>How often do you train? >Does more equal better? >How do you get mastery when this shit isn't your job/career.
>>663922>How often do you train? Depends on the phase of training I am in. Keep in mind that training should progress from a focus on more general training means to more specific. Both over the lifetime career of an athlete and in each cycle of training for more advanced athletes (closes to competition = more sport specific training).Currently nursing some injuries and in a more general phase of training. I exercise most everyday, sometimes more than once. Nice thing is that I only compete in grappling so kickboxing can be apart of my general training.>Does more equal better? There exists an optimal amount of training volume. This varies depending on a variety of factors such as level of sport mastery, distance from competition, phase of macro/meso/microcycle...etc. The trick is finding what is optimal. The biggest mistake I see is people use an excessive volume of high and medium intensity training at the expensive of a larger volume of lower intensity training. There has been a move by a lot of the more qualified coaches to use less volume in training. There is a variety of reasons for this. One is due to better testing for PEDs.>How do you get mastery when this shit isn't your job/career.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>663922>4 times a week>to a certain extent, yes>if you put the time into it, you can achieve mastery even if you have a different day job.

>>663922>How often do you train?Class 4 times a week, plus I work out on my own 2 of my off days when I am not too busy or distracted. >Does more equal better? Too much of a good thing is harmful. Got to give the body a chance to heal, and the mind a chance to relax and do it's thing with all that "data" from training. >How do you get mastery when this shit isn't your job/career.By doing it long enough and sticking with it even when life makes it tough. If you put in the work and the hours then there is no reason why you can't gain mastery of something even if you are not being paid for it.
>How often do you train? Twice a week>Does more equal better? Yes, but not to the point that you injure yourself.>How do you get mastery when this shit isn't your job/career"Mastery" is subjective. Face it, it's unlikely that you'll get Olympic gold in judo, wrestling, boxing or whatever you do.Just continue improving yourself at whatever rate you can and strive to always make yourself the best you can be.Instead of thinking "Damn, I'm not a master yet because I'm not the best on the planet", compare yourself to the people around you and to how you used to be.There's no such thing as complete mastery, because there's always more to learn. As you get better and better, you start to focus on smaller and smaller things and find areas to improve that you wouldn't have even thought of earlier. Nobody reaches a point where they say "Yup, I've mastered this. Nothing more to learn, time to take up knitting".It's about the journey.
Which sport do I get into, airsoft or paintball?
>>667444Same, all my friends gave up the sport so i have no-one to go with.
>>667444>>668540>#richkidproblems
>>657409>airsoft >sporthaha you make me laugh.
Start-up costs will be about the same for either activity, but in the long run airsoft will be much cheaper. IMO paintball is more respectable as a sport where airsoft is more of a hobby. I've tried both, and I like both, but I'd personally rather focus on airsoft, but that's mostly because of costs and it's a bit more popular locally. If I was you I'd just rent both and try both.
>>657409I really hate the people associated with airsoft, lots of anime loving faggots who talk in meme speak in person. I like playing airsoft, but that's probably because I don't have to go to fields and play with a bunch of autists who think they are real soldiers.
Might be a redo: but I couldn't find one.How much do you pay for your training and where are you?I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I pay 200 a month for BJJ, 100 a month for Judo and 500 a year for my gym membership

about 25 USDollar/Month for 1 Judo lesson per week, but I work as an instructor for children which means I get about 250 USD/Month from the gym
>>664438>No full contact sparringobviously leads to>no functionalityWristlocks aren't especially dangerous, they're allowed in SW and BJJ (and luta livre?), but if you don't attempt them against a resisting opponent, you won't be doing them against a resisting opponent in teh streetz

>>663735I'm 31 and switched from skateboarding to bmx April of last year. I mostly rode Street and just did a lot of curbs. First thing I really concentrated on was manuals though. Even though bowls and minis were my main thing on a skateboard, I was scared of transitions for a while on bmx. One day I woke up and was like "fuck it. I'm learning this shit" Now I ride minis, bowls and even some dirt. If you really want to learn something, age doesn't hold you back. What holds us older riders back is that we contemplate the possible outcomes too much. Doctor bills, missing work, "I could put my eye out" kinda stuff. If you just let that go and really buckle down and put in the effort, you'll go farther than you think. But you gotta love it. The first time I rode a BMX with some friends, I knew I would never be able to let it go. Mounted my board on the wall the next day and bought a used wtp crysis. Never looked back.
Hey coaster bros, how long did it take for you to feel comfortable on your freecoaster?Got mine today and it felt very weird to ride.
I will be starting boxing at a very good boxing gym, reportedly the best in the country (belgium). Thing is that the gym closes for novices during the summer so I'll have to wait till september before I can start. Because I'm very eager to start I figured I'd get a head start and work on my endurance and strength during those 4 months. What I can I do that would be best for boxing in terms of stamina, endurance, strength. Also, what's better for stamina; long distance jogging or HIIT? or a combination?Keep in mind that I haven't done any exercise in like a year. I used to play soccer and lift before though. Thanks /asp/>I know nothing prepares you more for boxing than boxing btw but I have nothing to do anyway
>>662110I go to a very Rocky-esque humble gym and the guys there do a good job helping out beginners but one of the main things they make EVERYBODY do is 100 Push-ups, 100, Situps, 100 Jumping Jacks, and 100 Squats just for basic strength - then you do three rounds of jump rope and afterwards you can do 3 rounds of alternative training exercises or rotate around the double end, bag, heavy bag, and shadowbox, spar, or practice footwork. I try to get a little of everything in and I go there for at least 2 hours a day, finishing up with 15 minutes of cardio and leg weight lifting.1 month in and I'm faster, and stronger than I've ever been in my life. Fuckin' boxing.
>>664670It typically is for me, provided you get 8 hours. If you're not feeling 100% you can always shadowbox, practice footwork, or just do some less strenuous exercises that practice your precision and skill instead of strength and speed.
>>662356>>662252I thought the most effective training was to focus your training at the LIP and to push past it infrequently in short bursts, then to return to it with the premise being recovery.Like very high intensity Aerobic work, bordering on Anaerobic, and then to also ensure separate sprint and long distant sprint training regularly. To increase heart chamber size, endurance and strength, etc. all methods are beneficial, with fartlek targeting pushing beyond the lactate inflection point being moreso aerobically.
>>662110Its best to build up your endurance before starting HIIT. But HIIT is how high level athletes achieve greater performance.
>>668703Endurance is very specific to the sport. Many means and methods are used. There is no one size fits all method.Sport specific conditioning is the best way to get develop specific endurance for a sport. Generally, HIIT cannot fit that mold. Although it can be used at specific times int he training cycle as a means of general conditioning (sometimes can be used as specific depending on the sport).
