When you're so used to people dying because of drinking poison or arrows while pooping or strangulation or burning at the stake or stabbed at your wedding, or beheaded then death by old age/obesity just isn't on your radar.

People that don't get offended are the true Thugs.

Came to see George in a pimp hat and sunglasses. Was disappointed.

He is smart enough to realize that his offense does not change reality. He knows that there aren't a lot of portly octogenarians. If he really thought his health were so robust, he would not have told the show runners how the series ends.

I think he still would have told the producers how the story ends. With the amount of things that have been changed from the books they'd almost need to know how everything ends so that they are able to continue to write in a more TV friendly fashion and still reach a conclusion that makes sense and will jive with the books. Sort of like how JK Rowling let Alan Rickman in on Snape's endgame as to create a more convincing continuity throughout the movies.

He knows he's old and fat and he knows that's not a recipe for longevity.

I didn't know he was a double agent.

The show runners aren't bound by the books. There would be no obligation for the show to end up in the same place as the books.

will jive with the books.

This is a minor quibble and pet peeve - "jibe". Jive is what turkeys do.

Sort of like how JK Rowling let Alan Rickman in on Snape's endgame as to create a more convincing continuity throughout the movies.

He says this is not the case. NB: "I didn't know he was a double agent."

Fair enough points. GRRM has also stated that he doesn't want anyone to finish his books should he pass before the series is completed. I'm not sure what that says about him, whether he is confident in his health or just doesn't care about the readers. Maybe he feels telling the producers the conclusion gives him a bit of a safety net in that regard, either way I don't really care I just want him to finish the fucking books.

I just want him to finish the fucking books.

Agreed! If he does die before then, the good thing is that I don't think he has any kids to ruin the series like Frank Herbert's kid did with Dune.

Oh lord, if having someone finish his work would result in anything like those last two Dune books... yeah I'd rather have them not finished.

I understand that you want that. I want that too. But it's important to bear in mind that he doesn't owe you shit.

Maybe he is offended at the idea that people are more concerned about reading a story than him dying.

The story is the only reason anyone's paying attention to him in the first place.

If you were dying and people asked if you would finish your current projects at work first, how would you feel?

Shitty, because I know those people in real life.

This is not what happened. The statement was, "Some people are worried that it's not going to be finished". It's a statement of fact and GRRM was asked to comment on that fact.

Either he will finish the series or die before he finishes the series. I know he doesn't deny this fact. Do you?

Well and one of his good friends, James Rigney (aka Robert Jordan), died before he could finish his own epic book series. So he knows it can happen. I'm sure he's taken precautions.

How is he even alive?

He is just 67 years old, lots of people live longer than that.

Not at his weight.

My awesome shitlord doctor says it best. You see plenty of old people on the streets. And plenty of fat people. But you rarely see old fat people.

Um, I have two grandparents in a nursing home and they are absolutely surrounded by old fat people in their 80s-90s.

That kind of is his/my point. I ran a hundred mile run with an 80 year old a few years ago. He passed me at a few points. I'm 36. He ran that same race 30 years in a row.

In case you haven't figured it out from context clues, he's not fat. And he's not confined to a nursing home. Like the extremely large majority of obese people >60.

Sustaining life thru the wonders of modern medicine =/= living life.

The skinny ones are still outside living unassisted, being seen. Writing books, participating in society and living life. The fat ones are not. Instead dealing with bed sores, infections, or dead.

god damn. I could walk a hundred miles with many complaints and I'm 18. that makes me feel like I should do more cardio

TBH, running 100 miles in a respectable amount of time is more an exercise of ingesting the necessary calories (upwards of ~15,000 in some cases) and fluids so as to actually finish, and not lose the aforementioned on the side of the trail in the form of an ominous lime green projectile arc. Rather than actual cardio.

Sometimes the hallucinations are fun though.

still I don't think I could do it. and as an 18 year old I'm good at taking in calories

[–]Corndog_Enthusiast 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Vote accordingly, and please feel free to report any really bad comments. I don't like to remove comments...in 3 months moderating this sub, I've done it exactly 18 times. Those were all against the rules, spam/horrible novelty account spam, or really offensive things that have no business here. But that said, I don't want this sub or comments here descending into harassment and bullshit. So if you see something that you feel really crosses some lines, particularly for this sub, please report and write why in the 'Other' field and I'll take a careful look.

I think it's more just that one fatty being a dick

It's hardly hateful to say objectively he's more likely to die by being obese, it's called fact.

Fact: people who run around spouting off incessantly about who's going to die when die a lot earlier than people who shut their annoying bitch mouths.

...

Also, does he have documented health issues, or is he just fat and kinda old?

Well he's 67 and overweight, not sure about health problems but he isn't sure doesn't have the greatest future at his current physique.

I think it has less to do with his weight and more to do with the fact that such a successful show relies on only one man who takes fucking forever to tell a story. Winter is coming, yeah yeah yeah...

I'm sure this thread will be civil
