05 Command

This is an official complaint regarding the behavior of a site Administrator, Bright, who made multiple unauthorized edits to this essay earlier today. The first edit was unauthorized and against my desires, the second was in direct violation of a request to not touch the page to reinstate the change that I reverted.

As this is neither the first time — nor will it likely be the last time — that Bright has interfered with my articles or the administration-authorized work I perform for the community, I am formally requesting that disciplinary action be taken against him. I made a formal request to Dexanote in IRC that such action be taken, but was summarily ignored. This is grossly unprofessional conduct unbecoming of staff, and is not acceptable in any way.

This also has nothing to do with the substance of the edits. At Dexanote's request I have made an edit to better reflect the nature of the essay's contents. I am sick and tired of Bright unilaterally making changes where he's not welcome and getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

I did not ignore your request. I took action and told him to back off. I ruled that it was not right for him to edit another persons work without permission and he complied. I think that's enough. Seeing as I'm a mod and all and cannot go further.

He tried to edit your glossary because it came off as official, and because no other staff members signed off on it it obviously is not. I cannot remember if you're staff any more or not but its the admins responsibility to make sure the interests and policy of the site are clear and accurately portrayed. Your glossary was written with minimal disclaimers and its URL is actually "glossary", not "unofficial glossary" or "aelannas glossary". Seeing as 80% of newbies think you're a mod I can see why he felt it was necessary to make explicit that "amnestic" and "amnesiac" are interchangeable in the context of this site, // which has been established and agreed upon by the majority of staff//. Bright please jump in to clarify your edits.

No I do not think that he approached it right. That's why I stepped in.

I told you to put a disclaimer making it obvious that it is not an official guide. I personally want it to be more explicit but whatever. You have every right to post what you want so long as it's super obvious that its not official. Because its not official.

I vote for Bright to stay on as administrator, because Roget summed up basically everything i feel below me.

I do not find fault with Bright's intent to make a guide reflective of the actual reality of the site, although I do wish he had approached it in another way.— As an administrator, I think he has a right to make sure that nonfiction and nonopinion essays are accurate with the rest of the site.— apparently they don't! I do not recall seeing an opinion disclaimer on the glossary when I saw it, so staff editing it to make it accurate is the right thing to do. Now, if he had seen that Aelanna was getting defensive and upset with his edits, he probably ought to have backed off, but that's really the only issue I see here at all.

e: And apparently he did back off when told to by Dexanote, so it seems like it was taken care of then.

If there is a vote of no confidence, I am fine with Bright staying in his current role as administrator.

Nonconfrontation and compliance is a hallmark of the selective process, but that's neither here nor there. He can at least bring it up, and outside of that, like I said. If he's absolutely blase or obstructive about any actual progressive efforts to improve the site, or migrate it from wikidot, or inject some degree of common sense, or encourage people to at least use what a damn word means in the dictionary… just get his ass out of here.

I'm not ignoring that he did good work before, or that he was the only admin for a while (which is arguably part of the problem), but being useful for a while doesn't make you the appropriate choice forever.

He has a history of unilateral deletions and changes to shit, and he's the single most obstructive bureaucrat on the entire site. As Aelanna said, he's a cool guy, and fun to talk to, but he has absolutely no business anymore as an admin. I'm seconding her here.

I am locking this thread for 12 hours, ending on 6:30 AM PST on 8-30-13. Emotions are high, and people are acting like fools. I want everyone to have a chance to calm down before this spirals out of control.

That having been said, Aelanna: as you are currently not a member of staff, your articles do not enjoy any particular protection, and moderation/administration have the right to alter, change, or ask you to delete any guides or articles that could be misconstrued as being site policy, when they do not reflect site policy at all.

Bright, that having been said, your subsequent behavior in this thread indicates that you're emotionally charged, and I don't think you're in a good state of mind to continue this discussion at this time.

I will unlock this thread at some point tomorrow morning… if I fail to do so, any other admin or moderator can do so.
