Historic roleplay?

With... colored dots?

Clearly this is an important free speech issue... /s

And the sad thing is, because this game involves colorful little dots it WILL attract children. Especially if they are seeing it on Twitch and Youtube... and all they'll find is a bunch of channers, redditors, gators etc, basically the scum of the internet, "roleplaying" historical events with dots nah lol jk they'll encounter a bunch of racist and sexist harrassers.

But...but I was told that the gamer community is a place where everyone is accepted, and I finally don't have to be bullied any more T_T

Oh wait, no, that's GG's mythical idealization of video games for white dudes.

I wonder if CH Sommers actually saw the gamer community in action, ie in this game, rather than sycophantic Gators sucking up to her, she'd still describe gamers as "inclusive, welcoming and polite"...

The answer is yes, of course she would. She probably already knows.

She tweets like a 12-year old bully; this is her culture.

everyone is accepted

If you're a bigot, the TRULY OPRESSED MINORITY, no matter what kind of bigot you are, you're accepted!

Gamers in general: Loving & tolerant of intolerance and yet hating tolerance since the community's inception. (yet don't you dare suggest gamers can be mostly awful people, or even call the community out, then you're the real bigot)

(#notallgamers)

Everyone is accepted in gamer culture as long as you are a white dude that doesn't like sports too much.

That guy who said "do you hate free speech"... I can't even...

I'll just paste something I wrote about free speech

Free speech. You can say what you want but that free speech comes with few asterisks next to it and I don't have to listen to you. The only people who can take it away therefore censoring you are those in position of power i.e. government not privately owned websites and subforums. You are in their house either follow their rules or get the boot.

[–]LtColStaghornSocial Justice Krampus 11

I love how people don't realize that there's a gigantic chunk of the Internet's userbase that don't have free speech.

Granted, this is probably because these people don't speak Chinese, but still.

They're too busy "historically roleplaying" with dots with communist flags on them to care.

[–]CrowgirlCKim Crawley 6

Actually "free speech" in the American sense, is a concept that only exists in the United States.

Even here in Canada we have laws that make hate speech illegal that don't exist in the US.

And even in the US, there are limits to "free speech": child porn, slander, libel, defamation, blatant lying in pharmaceutical ads, the list goes on...

Hearthstone has implemented a system which works quite well.

You know things are bad in a community when a game gets praised for dealing with the situation by simply removing almost all forms of communication.

Having said that, I prefer Hearthstone's approach to any other I've seen so far ...

Yes, it's funny how much more tolerable people can be thanks to that. Plus, emotes let me be unfailingly polite to them just to irritate them all the more.

It's a cute, fun little game in theory. FYI, you can disable the labels and skins to avoid the assholery. Wish it would be on by default, but seeing how the dev is personally adding these razor sharp edgy skins, I don't see that happening.

Dude, it's called humour.

I... what?
It worries me when people think that, essentially, going out in public and screaming "Hitler!" wrapped in a swastika counts as humour. I don't think I'm some kind of intellectual elitist, but surely humour requires thought?

99% of "edgy internet humour" is not actually funny, and I say that as a person who can laugh at some pretty offensive shit.

I tried the game before. This is pretty much what I saw. I noped the fuck out in like all of five minutes.

It really is the worst community I've seen thus far. And I say this as someone who was forced to play CoD online at a friend's house once. It's like the dev said, "okay, I'm going to make a game and invite every neo-nazi, MRA, misogynist etc on the internet to come play it!"

Unfortunately, I feel this is what a gaming community looks like in it's natural state when people aren't worried about having their Steam/XBLA/Whatever accounts banned. :(

Yeah I googled it to find out a bit more about it and the highest rated video that came up was from the Twitch streamer Destiny. Yes, that Destiny, from the penis sexting and the KiA AMA... I think I can live without this game somehow.

As usual, "FREE SPEECH" applies only to people who are being hateful, bigoted shitheads and not to anyone who would dare to criticize them.

KYM says the game was created by /v/, which would explain all of the "edginess" and unwilling to moderate it.

Too bad, because it seemed like a harmless timesink.

[–]PrincessAmericaBased Trollfic Author 3

If you can choose your own name, I'd love to go with "Kill All Men", "Gamers Are Dead", or "Anita Sarkeesian isn't a bad person" and see how these "free speech advocates" react.

However, if the dev is outright encouraging the channers, then this game obviously isn't worth playing.

"My other fave game is DepQuest"

"Comment is free but facts are sacred"

"I'd rather be playing Dear Esther"

"I <3 ggautoblocker"

"The Escapist is trash"

This does have potential...

[–]FrozenWesSocial Justice Cannon Gunner 2

However, the dev for Agario not only seems to be revelling in the attention of his Channer, Twitch and Gator fans, but actively encouraging their behavior...

It's even worse, he's promoted the game on 4chan and is adding stuff they ask for. 4chan Is where this game's community began and the result of that is what you see now. Sad really, as otherwise it's a pretty nice game imho.

Goddamnit.

If I was still doing my Master's Degree right now we'd both a) be having a field day with this shit and b) tossing out my thesis project work in favor of creating a paper entitled "Why we can't have nice things: GamerGate and why future games will have no room for customization whatsoever"

Yeah, I think that's what's going to happen here. Enjoy your little shitty dot game.

It's actually kind of a cute little time waster with the bigotry removed. I didn't see a single "offensive" name or skin when I played it.
