People that don't get offended are the true Thugs.

He is smart enough to realize that his offense does not change reality. He knows that there aren't a lot of portly octogenarians. If he really thought his health were so robust, he would not have told the show runners how the series ends.

I think he still would have told the producers how the story ends. With the amount of things that have been changed from the books they'd almost need to know how everything ends so that they are able to continue to write in a more TV friendly fashion and still reach a conclusion that makes sense and will jive with the books. Sort of like how JK Rowling let Alan Rickman in on Snape's endgame as to create a more convincing continuity throughout the movies.

He knows he's old and fat and he knows that's not a recipe for longevity.

I didn't know he was a double agent.

The show runners aren't bound by the books. There would be no obligation for the show to end up in the same place as the books.

will jive with the books.

This is a minor quibble and pet peeve - "jibe". Jive is what turkeys do.

Sort of like how JK Rowling let Alan Rickman in on Snape's endgame as to create a more convincing continuity throughout the movies.

He says this is not the case. NB: "I didn't know he was a double agent."

Fair enough points. GRRM has also stated that he doesn't want anyone to finish his books should he pass before the series is completed. I'm not sure what that says about him, whether he is confident in his health or just doesn't care about the readers. Maybe he feels telling the producers the conclusion gives him a bit of a safety net in that regard, either way I don't really care I just want him to finish the fucking books.

I just want him to finish the fucking books.

Agreed! If he does die before then, the good thing is that I don't think he has any kids to ruin the series like Frank Herbert's kid did with Dune.

Oh lord, if having someone finish his work would result in anything like those last two Dune books... yeah I'd rather have them not finished.

How is he even alive?

He is just 67 years old, lots of people live longer than that.

Not at his weight.

My awesome shitlord doctor says it best. You see plenty of old people on the streets. And plenty of fat people. But you rarely see old fat people.

Um, I have two grandparents in a nursing home and they are absolutely surrounded by old fat people in their 80s-90s.

That kind of is his/my point. I ran a hundred mile run with an 80 year old a few years ago. He passed me at a few points. I'm 36. He ran that same race 30 years in a row.

In case you haven't figured it out from context clues, he's not fat. And he's not confined to a nursing home. Like the extremely large majority of obese people >60.

Sustaining life thru the wonders of modern medicine =/= living life.

The skinny ones are still outside living unassisted, being seen. Writing books, participating in society and living life. The fat ones are not. Instead dealing with bed sores, infections, or dead.

god damn. I could walk a hundred miles with many complaints and I'm 18. that makes me feel like I should do more cardio

My grandparents are not obese, they are there because they are old and can't take care of themselves and have dementia, just like all the other people there. All of them are old, only some are fat, so this argument you are conjuring about fat people in nursing homes is simply bullshit. Once you are past 60 you are rolling the dice, there are all sorts of conditions that land you in that home. Good for that 80yo dude you ran with, but he is an outlier. As a wise man once said, "You see plenty of young runners people in the streets. And plenty of old people. But you rarely see old runners." Did you expect to see tons of old fat people at your marathon? There is nothing wrong with an old, healthy person having other hobbies, reading, gardening, etc. Of course that one old dude is going to seem like an inspiration. Remember that no how much you respect that old man, he is still going to end up with a nurse wiping his ass, don't pretend like running a marathon now and then is going to save anyone from that fate.

Just stop.

Are you sure of that?

Yeah, pretty sure.

Average male life expectancy for the US: 77.4 years1

Average effect of class III obesity on life expectancy: -9 years2

George RR Martin is 66, which means he's quickly approaching the age beyond which class III obese people are not expected to survive; before you ask, George RR Martin is well beyond the minimum for class III "super obesity"; he's easily 300 lbs., and at his 5'6" height, that puts him at nearly 50 kg/m2.

When you're so used to people dying because of drinking poison or arrows while pooping or strangulation or burning at the stake or stabbed at your wedding, or beheaded then death by old age/obesity just isn't on your radar.

I wonder if GRRM has ever been mentioned without pouty kids turning up to demand he live his life how they see fit.

Perhaps the worst offense is the best compliment.

Was that outro by Tupac as a fantastical giant?

...

Also, does he have documented health issues, or is he just fat and kinda old?

Well he's 67 and overweight, not sure about health problems but he isn't sure doesn't have the greatest future at his current physique.
