It was always the case, not sure why people are surprised. NA likes to hype themselves up to no end but its rarely based on solid facts, real signs of improvement. From season 1 to season 5, always the same hype, but in reality its only C9 and TSM(from s4) who carry the whole scene.

NA did improve in season 4, thats a fact, but their lower to mid tier teams are still holding the region back thats my opinion. Its not a surprise that NA did the best they ever did at worlds when they could scrim top teams in korea for one months and adapt fairly well.

But then when they start doing well the biggest circlejerk also starts at the same time and you read things like : "I legitimately think TSM has a decent shot at worlds", "Korea is pretty bad now, I expect TSM to be top2 at MSI", "EU? Shitshow", "CN? Yeah they have good players : still a shitshow". I facepalm everytime.

Before you call me a EU fanboy : I've had my fare share of criticism for the EU scene for the last 2 years aswell, was really worried in season 4 and the results werent that surprising. There would be a lot to say aswell, although the issues are different.

I think Liquid and Impulse are improving fast. I would say one of those 2 teams definitely has a better chance of going to worlds than CLG

lol I would say most teams have a better shot than CLG.... even if they're dominating for a whole split they will always have their bi-annual collapse during playoffs :P

CLG flair

You've just accepted it I see.

He doesn't have faith.

Why is he even here?

Because being a CLG fan is like going through the 5 stages of dying, he has reached acceptance.

<sarcasm>SHRC have a better chance to qualify for worlds than CLG</sarcasm>

I like Liquid. I had high hopes for them but they were pretty disappointing until the end of last split. In the end they look fairly good but still not as good as I expected them to be. I hope they can be top 2, it would be a nice change.

I elive in TL tho. They just have a good vibe about em

The growing pains they went through in the spring split will probably only serve to make them a better team in the summer split. I don't think they'll come out and destroy NA, but I could see them making worlds alongside any 2 of c9, TSM, and tip.

CLG has demonstrated time and again that they aren't a cohesive unit and they lack the clutch characteristics needed to win games when they matter.

Of the teams I could see going to worlds, I see c9 and tip having the best chance of competing at the international level. C9 had historically had great teamwork and a sense for getting objectives they need to win games, but it remains to be seen how that holds up with a new midlaner.

Tip plays the same aggressive early style we saw at MSI. They play like international teams, and they are best suited to match up against international teams.

TSM needs to figure out what the hell they're doing if they want a shot in October, and liquid might still need to find their team identity.

Doing the Liquid: Rebirth videos was brilliant and they have so many new fans now because of it

no, both of them will be stronger than CLG 99.9999%

But TSM and C9 will both go to worlds obviously, so I meant that one of those teams would become the 3rd team, instead of CLG.

would become the 3rd team, instead of CLG.

If they don't, CLG deserves mighty praise for turning it around.

It was always the case, not sure why people are surprised. NA likes to hype themselves up to no end but its rarely based on solid facts, real signs of improvement. From season 1 to season 5, always the same hype, but in reality its only C9 and TSM(from s4) who carry the whole scene.

On the international level and by the end of the season they always dominate NA, but there are other good teams in the region that do fine. EU, China, and every region aside from Korea tend to only have 1-2 stand out teams by the end of the split. NA was hyped because they performed better than EU for a time. They didn't just hype themselves up.

NA did improve in season 4, thats a fact, but their lower to mid tier teams are still holding the region back thats my opinion. Its not a surprise that NA did the best they ever did at worlds when they could scrim top teams in korea for one months and adapt fairly well.

This isn't only a problem for NA. I do think the bottom 3-4 teams tend to be better in EU, but top ones are more balanced. Liquid, TiP, CLG, and possibly others could be strong teams by the end of the split. They at least show a lot of promise and I don't believe any of those teams are as bad as they seem.

Also, NA and EU are isolated from being able to scrim reliably with other regions. It is easier due to location, time zones, ping, etc for the asian regions to practice with one another and watch eachothers games.

Nobody says this seriously. There are people on this sub, respected analysts, and pros that expected TSM to do well at MSI. They performed well in the previous IEM event. It made perfect sense to say they have the ability to compete with the best teams. They had a bad tournament, but that doesn't mean NA is trash and they will get dumpstered every game at worlds. TSM does have a chance to win it all, albeit a small one. Nobody believes Korea is or has ever been bad. They just seem to have gotten weaker relative to the rest of the regions recently due to teams dissolving and other regions getting better.

Before you call me a EU fanboy : I've had my fare share of criticism for the EU scene for the last 2 years aswell, was really worried in season 4 and the results werent that surprising. There would be a lot to say aswell, although the issues are different.

EU has it's own issues, but this upcoming split could be a great one for the scene. They will have a lot of strong teams and hopefully the new rosters will be well practiced by worlds and ready to compete with the East. I hope NA can also get strong this split and be ready for worlds.

I really just want a Western team to go really deep in the tournament or win!

tbh those drama also add up some hype around games.

There is less hype on euw because there is less drama. No match can be hyped on eu as much as a TSM/CLG.

There was a fair amount of drama in the EU scene aswell to be fair, maybe we dont like it that much though. Personally I find it sad most of the time.

Biggest drama was Rekkles going back to Fnatic?

Lemondogs, Nip, Alliance/Elements, even Gambit lately with Leviathan, MYM, SK with forg1ven... on top of my head.

they never quite reach drama's like this recent link case, or any wase actually.

Like Nrated / FNC. I thought that would be a huge one last year, like how nrated was just fired by fnc and then he came back in lcs with sk, but no. Nothing. Rekkles going on alliance even went smoothly imo. Imagine how bad would have been santorin going to CLG, and coming back again (even if it was for purely sport reason, rekkles had his reasons and they were 100% legit reason).

Eu has some drama, but it goes nowhere as far as NA drama goes.

That's because fewer people seem to give a shit. Also, none of those people wrote a 17 page hit piece... the drama around most of those subjects is way better... Link just made this drama really easy to understand by writing an encyclopedia.

I mean of this pre-split.

But yea, SK with Forgiven is also a minor drama.

Just think a second about what would have happend if 1 of the best ADCs from NA would have left the team??? I bet there would be at least 10 posts on frontpage with never ending drama for weeks.

justNAthing

Watching NA for the drama and EU for the skill.

ah the skill that made monte say that EU better hope Fanatic goes to MSI because the rest of the teams are terrible.

o and there is no drama in EU, like with rekkless, or elements as a whole, or forgiven and sk, or kori and MYM, or Rocat...

[–]Iquey[unskilled retard] (EU-W) 5

Monte says EU sucks for the same reason he thinks chinese teams are worse then korean ones: they play an agressive fighting style, whereas NA and Korea play a calculated game around the map.

That may be true, but Eu matches are a thousand times more entretaining that Na matches.

yeah, definitely. I can only hope people will be hype for every FNC-UoL because all 7 games we had so far fucking delivered ^

Hyping up TSM wasn't a byproduct of only NA. A lot of people (including Monte) were under the impression that TSM was really strong after their run at Katowice. It's not a circlejerk (also known as a word that means nothing at all now) to assume that a team that performed is going to perform.
