So a week ago, r/swagbucks was closed to viewing (made Private). Preceding that, the top-mod fired the only other mod, then later banned said mod - a mod quite popular with the people (was active in the sub, gave much). Top-mod was unknown, visibly contributing in no way. Community rage ensued. The banned mod formed a splinter-sub (r/sbs). A third of the community migrated.
So yesterday, the Product Marketing Manager for the Swagbucks corporation came into r/sbs to inform us that they now own r/swagbucks and will be taking applications for new moderators. They insist this is all legit, that bad-mod changed mind and decided to give the sub to company. Said company asserts that no payment was made, that the whole process was sanctioned by a named Reditt Admin.
Company goes on to speak of how this experience was "bitter sweet", and how they wish to "serve" community. No mention is made of popular-mod. Numerous questions are asked regarding the mod-status of Popular Mod. All go answered. Multiple times the company responded to other aspects of a questioning posters post, blatantly ignoring all questions regarding Popular Mod.
Company acknowledges the splinter r/sbs (the sub top-modded by Popular Mod) under the heading of "The Elephant in the Room". Company states they have "no intention of impeding the progress" of r/sbs. Company leaves hanging the question of, "But what of Popular Mod?". So by ''definition'', the company has brought an Elephant into the Room. It is they who avoid issue, in a most blatant way. Ironic i find this to be.
- at time of this posting, the upvote percentage of that "official" posting is >30%. Thread comments number 111. Quite dramatic indeed.
