I know this isn't the discussion, but the spanish inquisition actually did put a stop to the witch trials in spain. They saw it as superstition.

In total seriousness, you're not giving the witch burning mobs enough credit, because they often didn't have means of knowing better. They were using premodern means of seeking out causes of various awful things that happened. When Nigerians arrest a goat for robbery(assuming the robber turned into the goat), when people from Zaire say that Mobutu could turn into a leopard, whatever...
People are rational and use available tools to figure out what is causing the awful shit they see around them. Early Modern Europeans and Modern Africans have witchcraft as a metric for figuring things out, and it takes serious effort to prove that awful shit can happen with no witchcraft at all. A part of that serious effort in Europe was in fact the Inquisition, regardless of their anti Jewish(as a religion)/Protestant/Muslim mission.
SJWs are less comparable to a mob just using available metrics, and more comparable to bolsheviks using trumped charges against anyone who ever opposed them.

Luckily they're flying in the face of public opinion on this one. Now it's they who're interrupting the cirlcejerk and are trying to call out something most people would've seen and thought 'heh, good line'. They aren't going to be popular on this one, will lose a lot of credibility if they persue it.

(Not that I've seen the new avengers movie, but've generally gotten the impression that most people liked it. Fans get defensive easy, y'know?)

It's not about public opinion.

SJWs (and this applies to everyone) get their news from, socialize with, and value the opinions of their like-minded friend group.

What matters is that "problematizing" a major director is viewed as activism within their own cliques.

The inquisition gave 1 month advance notice, and only got its bad rep thanks to protestant smear campaigns. Really they were polite and professional (even if the whole concept was full of shit); I wish the sjws were more like the inquisition.
