Goodbye Spacebar: Google wants keyboard without spacebar

Currently, spacebar is the biggest key in a standard keyboard. In modern age, where gadgets are going smaller and more compact, Google has patented a new laptop that could say goodbye to this Spacebar key and can be the most space-saving laptop. Google has outlined the design for a laptop that has a trackpad that extends upto space that would have been occupied by long spacebar key.

The trackpad will be separated by a single line and the rest of the trackpad functions normally. A set of smart sensors inside the trackpad senses whether user wants a space or normal mouse operation. For example a small tap while typing will produce space between letters and while using trackpad as mouse, tap will produce mouse click.

It is difficult to say what Google is thinking by just making Spacebar a virtual key, but this surely paves the way for complete virtual keyboard where all the physical keys will be replaced by virtual keys.

According to statement given to Quartz, Google says that it does not turn all its patents to prospective products and there is no guarantee that it will include its patent in its Chromebook laptops but there can be a room for it.

  1. This is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen done to laptop. I’m glad that in the 21st Century we’ve ruined the concept of Laptops. Thanks everyone, I hope you all die.
