The new banner is more aesthetic but it will be a mistake to have one flag on it and nothing more. atm it is centred at the dome of rock, this sends a message as to who is welcome here. an Israeli flag is a lot less inclusive.

I'm not Israeli (and am actually half Arab myself) but I really don't see how an Israeli flag in /r/Israel is unwelcoming, frankly.

Unwelcoming would be something insulting to outsiders. Anyone insulted or put off by an Israeli flag would probably never feel welcome anyway.

Although I do like the Dome, personally :)

The name of the sub is Israel. The flag is Israeli. If you want an independent Palestine, don't lump it in with Israel, treat it as two different countries... Go look at /r/Palestine and count the Israeli flags on their banner. I'll wait.

Guys stop taking this comment so offensively. He has a point. Living in N.Ireland with a somewhat similar history. I can agree with this comment as certain flags in this country do not represent the entirety of the countries population. This is not a slight or an insult or a cheap dig. It's just how it is.

I know I'm going at a stretch here.. Which is why i said "somewhat similar".

But the resemblances are still there and we can be used as an example of what can be for Israel/Palestine if you are willing to work together and respect each other. This goes for both sides of the equation, I'm not taking sides.

Would you accept a photo centered on a Catholic church as the banner of /r/nireland? I don't like the flag, but it's a lot more agreeable than a religious building for a secular country.

The country is Israel the people are Israeli. The people in "Palestine" are Palestinian. It is not the same country to them. They are not israeli. This isn't their sub, that is /r/Palestine. Go count the Israeli flags on their banner.

Look, I'm not here to cause a fuss or argue with people who are clearly after an argument. I replied to a comment in this thread which I believe has a fair point.

The attitude and the blatant disregard shown to people living in Israel with differing views to that of certain people here justifies the bigot remark.

I agree, I know where you are coming from.

My country has so much trouble with flag flying that it is actually against the law in certain areas to fly the flag of your own country. This is all i'm saying.. The inclusiveness of the current banner to that of one showing only a flag may not be as welcoming to other citizens as it is to you. That's all I'm saying. I don't mean offence and I don't want to annoy anyone. I'm just voicing an opinion based on daily experiences in my own country. I do not appreciate the aggressiveness and blatant insulting manner of some replies I've received simply for stating an opinion. A neutral opinion at that.

How is /u/anti-human a bigot for being offended by your remark? You're saying a national subreddit shouldn't use the flag it is identified by. What do you want them to identify their country with? A South African flag?

Not to mention you should know about the conflict and the tensions surrounding it. What you said is insensitive.
