I am a liberal in pretty much every way other than the conventional liberal stance on gun-control, and due to Sanders' stance on gun-control I just can't support him - and neither will countless others like me. It's a sad day when I'd be forced to back someone like Rand Paul over someone like Sanders or Warren. Liberals need to learn to leave this issue alone because it's wrecking their potential for no good reason.

I'm going to assume you just haven't actually read up on Bernie's gun control history, and instead just saw the 'F' Rating by the gun manufacturer shills NRA on its own.

His only "anti-gun" vote was to reduce large magazines. Period. Everything else is pro-rights, and considering Vermont is even more gun-friendly than Texas, I think you'd be making a rookie mistake to brush him aside without beefing up on the facts, first.

yeah, that is SO SO much more important than every other issue.

so either hypocrite or liar or turfing for paul.

Any man who will vote against Bernie because of high capacity rifle magazines is being disingenuous. He wouldn't have voted for Bernie in the first place.

That has to be the single dumbest reason I have heard.

"Disappearing middle class? Huge numbers of jobless or underemployed people? Growing poverty in the USA? Fuck it. I want to be able to have the biggest magazine possible in rifle/pistol."

Not even close to logical.

Seriously. It's so ridiculous I can't believe it's not a turfer

I am Aussie. About 20 years ago we banned semi-autos, autos, brought in other controls, you need a gun safe bolted to the floor etc. Before this, we had a similar number of shootings, but since the controls, not one mass shooting. If you would give your vote to an Ayn Rand loving whack job who would love to sell the government to the highest bidder, over gun controls? You're as liberal as Rand Paul. Seriously, wtf?!?

Australia had a drop in shootings, which may be causation or it may be correlation - but your violent crime stats have been unacceptable in the meantime, with a citizenry that has no reasonable means to protect themselves from that violent crime. Unacceptable trade-off to countless millions of Americans.

Also, shit like this:

So I reject the validity of Australia's gun control laws. To each their own, but there's a very good reason why we aren't behaving like you.

[I'm bailing on this. I'm not trolling but I'm still getting downvoted badly, even though I'm being polite and constructive and contributing to the discussion. But since I'm nevertheless being so badly downvoted, reddit is treating me like a troll and I have to wait 10 minutes between posting any comments. To heck with that. I'm not willing to be punished for engaging a healthy discussion. Oh well. Seems a shame.]

It is unfortunate that you are willing to sacrifice so much for so little.

What exactly is wrong with his stance on gun control that you have a problem with?

I understand your point and I do think the high capacity magazine ban is dumb both politically and common sense wise. If there is any politician who would change his mind when presented with good ideas I think it's Bernie. Please bring it up again in any future ama he probably will do.

That would be SO wonderfully refreshing. But I fear he's 'just a politician' like all other politicians in that he'd navigate the issue strategically and NOT change, because he'd know that'd cost him the votes of the folks like all of the downvoters against my position here in this discussion.
People are rabid and irrational in many ways and politicians exploit that. I doubt if he's any different, but it really would be wonderful if/when some progressive finally comes around on Guns.
I'd swear the future voting bloc that I can feel in my bones is going to be a wonderful blend between libertarianism (when it comes to guns/weed/privacy/etc.) but yet progressive (when it comes to the environment/healthcare/gayrights/etc.). I see that vibe all over the place amongst the youth and here on reddit. But in the meantime it's this us-vs-them oldschool crap, where if you're pro-ecology then you must want to ban AR-15's, or if you're pro AR-15's then you must want to outlaw abortions,...and have to pick a side. Yeesh.
