Jon Krakauer slams anti-feminists: 'You're a problem'

Last Tuesday, author Jon Krakauer met with feminist bloggers to discuss his latest book, Missoula, which explores campus rape in the title Montana city. During the roundtable discussion in New York, Krakauer declared himself a feminist, too, and slammed those who don’t consider themselves as such.

“I mean, how can you not be a feminist if you have a brain in your head? If you’re not a feminist, then you’re a problem,” he said at the Penguin Random House offices.
Krakauer’s book, on shelves now, focuses on a series of sexual assaults at the University of Montana, and how those cases were handled by the Missoula Police Department. In 2013, the Justice Department investigated the police force and determined that the cases were handled inadequately.
The campus rape epidemic in America has also been tackled by films and television shows this year. The documentary The Hunting Ground, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, used first-person interviews to shine a light on the systemic problems with how colleges and universities handle rape allegations. That same month, Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom also featured a plot about the subject, though Sorkin was criticized for how the show handled its depiction.
