There's everything wrong with indoctrinating children, and hijacking popular culture for that purpose.
I don't think passing on your sincere beliefs to your own children using materials that help you explain your beliefs easier is a bad thing.
I doubt children are clamouring to buy this themselves and I don't envisage evangelists slipping them into kids book-bags as they leave primary school. It's not a massive conspiracy to brainwash kids so get off your high-horse.

Wow, I'm really shocked OP is getting down voted so badly.
Children are not old enough or mature enough to make decisions on their own. Taking something that they enjoy and relate to and using it to indoctrinate them with your own beliefs is essentially tricking their young minds into accepting your beliefs. Not only are they too young to reason soundly, but now you're conflating their reasoning with their love for Minecraft.
It's not a conspiracy. It's just really (perhaps unintentionally) deceptive and yuck.

Apparently there's a lot of religious nuts on /r/Minecraft

Every last human who believes in a god, has been the victim of indoctrination or brainwashing.
The conspiracy is as big as the number of buyers.
Enjoy brainwashing your children, and watch them brainwash theirs.

You're confusing brainwashing with people passing on their beliefs to their own children.
I'm an atheist and a dad to three kids. I've not forced my beliefs on my children and the two who are old enough to believe in something do believe in God and Christianity. That isn't harmful to them in any way and it teaches them some good life lessons.
When they ask questions about religion, I explain that there are many different beliefs and none of them are right or wrong, they are just beliefs with no true way to state which is right or wrong.
Maybe when you have children you'll understand that they are individuals and can make up their own mind about what they want to believe.

Brainwashing and 'passing on your beliefs' are the exact same thing.
So if you don't brainwash your children, it must be their school.
Also you're suggesting that atheists aren't capable of teaching their children any valuable life lessons.
When I have children, I'll be damn sure to keep any attempts of religious indoctrination far away from them.
I hate to say it but you're an idiot. Passing on your beliefs is not brainwashing and I can't believe you'd be so stupid to believe it is. If you honestly believe that it is then you will be brainwashing your children by steering them away from any other culture or belief system.
The simple fact about this world is that billions of people will believe thousands of different things. Hiding your children away from those thousands of things is not going to make them well-adjusted.
Introducing your children to different cultures, beliefs and ideas and letting them choose the one which they feel is right for them is perfectly okay. Just because they believe something when they are children doesn't mean that's who they are for life.
You're advocating xenophobia for your children and that is idiotic.

You're an idiot

Calling people whom you don't believe an idiot is very natural.
I'll teach my children to fear any religion just by turning on the news.
I'll tell my children not to believe their stories by thoroughly explaining why they're wrong.
I'll even teach my children to call all believers idiots.
Call that brainwashing if you like.
It IS brainwashing and you're an idiot. Doing something like that will only cause your child harm. You will teach them nothing but ignorance, fear and hatred. Pathetic.
That's probably better
Still better than having your children brainwashed into religion.
It's actually the Bible and Quran that teach children to hate, enslave and murder everyone who doesn't buy into the doctrine. They're also fervently promoting willful ignorance. Atheism is the absence of all that.
No, it's exactly the same as brainwashing. You're not teaching your child your own belief, you're saying your belief is the only true belief and that everyone else should be feared and hated.
The fact that you are so blind to this and so arrogant with your belief speaks volumes about the type of parent you would be.

Christians always 'feel sorry' for atheists as a way of looking down on them.
When I have children, nobody will have to feel sorry for them.
Many people will feel sorry for them, because they'll have been brought up as inconsiderate and insufferable oafs.
You're literally just as silly as the 'believers' you repress, and you do not recognize it.
And trust me I feel sorry for them, when they're taught to look down on people for what they believe instead of understanding people make choices about their identities, and that these people have made a different choice then their dear dad, and should still be treated as people regardless of what wacky things they believe in.

I'm an atheist, and I still feel sorry for you.
I figure that you're not an idiot, but you're just trying to save face here; arguing for the sake of arguing so that you can not admit to wrong. I highly doubt you'll do all the things you've said because it's just talk.
My father has always told me that having kids is a life-altering experience- one that changes you deep to the core in an array of ways you'll never expect. I'm not there yet, but when I am, I can take his word on it.
And hopefully you'll do the same. Hopefully.

Ok I'm copy pasting my response to somebody else in this thread then adding to it
I think it's important to teach children about religion for one big reason: "Why?" By being frank about how nobody knows if, what, and to which degree these tales are true and why people may believe them, along with a healthy dose of science and never stifling their questioning, they can maintain that wonderful "Why?" and know to question even science (a fair few people these days will believe any outdated or just plain wrong "facts" because science is attached to it. I remember one prof likening it to, well, a new religion, which is bad as science shoukd always be questioned - it's the only way we figure out what is wrong and how to correct even the most accurate theories to be even more correct)

Plus, if they do follow the religion in the end? They are following it with a questioning mindset. Fear is a horrible idea - It just risks making them into an anti religious zealot

Two complete different things: "passing on your beliefs" leaves room for other people, the ones who receive the teaching, to think about it and to know if they want or not to be part of it; brainwashing, on the other hand, is preaching about the same thing over and over again, without answering any questions made by the part that hears your preaching.
EDIT: And to the part where you spoke about using pop culture to get to people, that's how it works. You can't target a crowd without speaking about things that they know. If someone talked to me about economics using big numbers, fancy words and what not, I wouldn't be able to follow them; if they, on the other hand, used something to which I could relate because it's part of my life, it would be easier.

If you have to disguise your story with something appealing to make your story appealing, your story is appalling.
That's seriously not how it works. It's a matter of adapting your product to your costumer. Not that the story is appalling but it's more appealing and direct if people can relate to it.
Math books used to have kids buying apples, trying to get money for pants and so on; now they talk about LCDs, cellphones and games. Of course that a math problem with pants would be appalling for a kid nowdays.

Minecraft itself is a great way to teach math to children.
But it breaks my heart to see Minecraft abused to push a religious agenda.

You are exactly wrong. So exact it's suspicious.
