If you look at my comment history, you can see that I've been doing very little but discussing this with the community since the sticky went live.

It's worth keeping in mind that whilst the response in the sticky has, of course, been awful (as expected), we have also received a lot of support. Naturally, people who care the most flocked to (and, in some cases, brigaded) the sticky to express that sentiment.

(As an aside, please remember that there has only been one rule change. People seem to be under the impression that Rule 1 has changed as well, which is simply not the case.)

We will continue to trial the rule, and see how it goes from there. So far, it looks like about three comments have been removed under it, two of which would have been removed under the previous Rule 8 for racial slur use, and the other one of which just said that someone was a faggot. Demonstrably, we are not going mad with whatever power people suppose this grants us to remove stuff at will.

Most of the backlash is based on a total misunderstanding—partly our fault, partly the desire to extract support for a particular narrative—of how the rule operates, and what it actually targets. It is barely more broad than the last rule, and simply gives us the power to remove comments like 'fucking black people are disgusting' or 'white people make me sick'.
