Erhmm... BUT isn't that the point of the song? He's a spoiled brat. And the tragedy with his father, the laid back life in the djungle, and the fight with Scar is ultimately what makes him a great king.

Yep. It's not to show that he's ready to be king. It's to show that he isn't. The song is about how great and easy he thinks his life will be because he is only thinking about himself and not his obligation to others.

Precisely. Ever since I got older and could understand the story, I sympathized with Zazu's perspective in that song. He's stuck trying to calm this brat's tits, and the kid puts him through a bunch of physical and emotional duress. I no longer have respect for Simba until after the reality check of Mufasa's death.
