We are going to try an all grippli PC group.

That sounds almost cringy. I honestly cannot see how you could possibly roll with a group like this in any way that would be fun, or enjoyable.

Joking aside, Grippli are just a stupid concept for a race. They're just anthropomorphic frog people.

They have no background on their race, they don't have any thematically cool going for them apart from them being frogs, because "lul i r frog, i has sticky froggie tongue". And worst of all, they have nothing cool about them. Who the hell would want to be a tiny weak frog dude in a RPG?

And in addition to that, I'm personally a big fan of the race. Not everyone needs to be a big lunk swinging a greatsword. They make very good Wis based casters, and can do well as a finesse class like a Swashbuckler.

...No, they don't make good Wis castes, or finesse classes, because they're just a bad concept. Frog is one of the very few examples, (although I havent played Chrono Trigger, so I have no idea, I'm just assuming he's a really good character) Making a knock off of Frog, or of any established character in any franchise in Pathfinder will just come off as an extremely half hearted attempt to make a PC, if you're doing a serious RP. (If it's a joke game, that point is a bit mute, but I have an entire little rant on joke games themselves)

They make good Wis caster builds, and good finesse builds, I would agree. But using a build that you took from online is just terrible play etiquette in my opinion, I take it as having no investment to the game or the character what-so-ever, if you can't even take the time to make your own character.

I'm not saying you're not allowed to like them, though. If you want to be a fan of something terrible, I can't stop you. But I'll be damned if I can't inform you that you like terrible concepts. Heck, some of my favorite games, TV shows aren't really that great. But at least they make a whole hearted attempt to be great, instead of just a pile of shite.

I'm saying you can have a stupid opinion, but don't expect to not be called out on it. I never said he was wrong to like Grippli, I just said he has terrible taste because he likes terrible races. But apparently honesty makes me an asshole.

Except for the fact that I've explained why Grippli as a race concept are just bad. They don't have any substance, they don't have any lore behind the, and the only thing they have going for them is the fact that they're a frog, and the agile tongue feat. Which makes them a terrible race not worth playing.

And everyone is calling me an ass for it.

I agree with some of that and disagree with other parts; they definitely could use more fleshing out (as many non-core races do), but I also think they're fun to RP with, and you certainly can make viable characters with them.

People are calling you an ass because you can't seem to comprehend that others' opinions can be equally valid; these are opinions on a very subjective subject. Just because you don't like Grippli doesn't mean others can't, and being so indignant about it just makes it worse.

Eh, a lot of the races don't have much background other than "they look like this." Sometimes it's nice to just play something different.

Anyway, catfolk are just anthropomorphic cats, ratfolk are just anthropomorphic rats, tengu are just anthropomorphic birds (as are strix), kitsune are just anthropomorphic foxes, nagaji are just anthropomorphic snakes, and vanara are just anthropomorphic monkeys.

Eh, my opinion on those kinds of races are kind of the same as the grippli, except a bit less extreme. You can do something at least with those other races, since you can really play on the theme of the animal that they're based off of. But they still really don't have much substance, since they don't have anything on them, really.

That's fair, and it seems likely that most of those races are included for flavor, not substance. It would certainly be nice if they were more fleshed out.

That's what I kind of like about these races though. Since they arn't flushed out we can make up their background and lore. Catfolk become ritualistic hunters, ratfolk become fishermen, tengu are a secretive society obsessed with shiny things, naga are desert dwelling pyramid builders, ect. You can make up their backgrounds to fit like whatever man.
