Society to some extent. You see black men dating white women way more than you see white men dating black women because society has some really screwed up and racist values that can devalue black women. Basically, he thought his whiteness was such a prize to bring to the relationship that he felt that the OP should be grateful enough to ignore his negative traits.

I mean, the guy is disgusting, but his attitude didn't happen in a vacuum. It was reinforced by parts of our society.

Sigh. I already knew this was the answer, but I wanted someone else to say it.

I was just in a giant thread with a discussion about this in a black sub, and it got messy

(Was it Fellas?)

[–]waffletoast 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (4子コメント)

Yea :/ like recently there was even a guy there saying we were "fake" black women.

Why am I not shocked. Fellas has been a little Satomayor fanclub for about 6 months now. Got good, solid reasons not to fuck around in there anymore. Shame, it used to be chill.

Yea, I feel really torn because I want to be involved but for like a week I've been having to defend black women. I think there are a lot of whiny young guys there too who are bitter because girls don't like them or black women don't want a black "king" or some bs like that. I dunno, I am really starting to think a lot of men are just a hot mess...our at least the ones most vocal online, haha

See it cracks me up because Blackladies very rarely mentions Blackfellas and when someone does its always held back because nobody wants to beef. I just stopped into YOUKNOWHERE and Fellas and all I see are "They arent really black, whitewashed, picking on black men, low self worth, hypocrites, ratchet, negative"

And its amazing because per post, the negativity, misogynoir and bitterness is almost squarely in Fellas--- but thanks to hypercritical bullshit against Black women we're the bad guys. Its kinda funny.

Fuck em, let them whine. That populace is way too bitter for me and I'd rather get on about current events and whatever Janelle Monae's hair is doing instead of sneering at what some fuckboy is gonna say about us next.

They can gargle Satomayor's balls all they want. Fuck it.

Buahaha. I agree with all of this

I think that's just true for black people in general. I don't think there's any group valued less from an institutional standpoint in the US than black men.

Edit: here is some data to support this:

Black women honestly. I mean, culturally we have issues with women and black people. So black women get both of those issues. I suspect lesbian and trans black women have it worse again.

Yeah, black women have it AWFUL.

If you have a white single mom working at McDonalds, times are tough, hard luck, she slipped through the cracks, this is why welfare and food stamps exist, etc.

If there's a black single mom working at McDonald's, people will see that VERY differently. Welfare queen, irresponsible, too lazy to get an education, etc. There's no escape.

Misogynoir is the name of the game.

Black and Latina women are both worse off.

I mean, I see what you're saying logically, but the data does not support that (in the United States, that is):

Again, I understand your logic--black women are minorities twice over. But this shows just how devalued and institutionally marginalized black men are in the United States. Frankly, the metrics for "success" are far more in favor of black women than black men.

An interesting point, but we must remember that black women not only face racism, but sexism as well. Additionally, the racism they face is often sexualized, while the sexism they face is often racialized.

I would argue the least valued demographic would not be black men, but trans women of color.

Fair logical point, but the data I posted in response to someone else below shows that, in those major, but limited metrics, the dual racism and sexism for black women simply doesn't produce as much harm for that demographic as black men suffer in the US.
